Uncle Arlyn and I are going to come home next week, just in time for Thanksgiving. We are flying back next Saturday night and the trip will take us about 30 hours, but we will be back in Tulsa at 1:30 PM on Sunday, November 19th. Before we come back to the United States, we have a busy week ahead of us. A lot of VIPs (that means Very Important People) are coming to Hanoi for some really important meetings. Uncle Arlyn and I have to go to a different hotel this week because some of those VIPs will be staying in our hotel, and they always bring a lot of security and employees. You know who will be staying in our hotel? The President of Russia, whose name is Vladimir Putin and the Prime ... read more

Hi Everyone, Flat Stanley here. You know probably 90 % of Vietnamese families don't have cars, but almost everyone has motorbike. The problem is how do you transport things on a motors bike that are heavy or bulky? The Vietnames people are very good at this. Here are some pictures of how they transport objects. I think some of these are funny and I hope that you enjoy them. Best Wishes, Flat Stanley... read more

Saturday Uncle Arlyn and I took a trip to Ha Long Bay. The bus picked me up at the my Hotel at 7:30 AM and we were on our way! Ha Long Bay is about 120 miles northeast of Hanoi and is worth every mile. It wa s great trip, and we made many new friends from other countries. We were the only Americans on the bus, but we had great company with travelers from Belgium, France, Finland, England and South Korea. Once again, everyone spoke English. We had a really fun time with lots of stories and laughter. Ha Long Bay was Beautiful! Upon arrival we got on board about a 30-passenger boat, but there were only about 14 of us, so we had lots of room. It was a four-hour cruise, and we took ... read more

Hi Everyone, Uncle Arlyn and I are in Ho Chi Minh City. The flight to Ho Chi Minh City was very good and we have since been very busy here. Ho Chi Minh City used to be called Saigon, for the Saigon River that flows by the city. It is very warm here and the temperature stays between 80 and 100 degrees most of the year. It seems it is always summer here! Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam was conquered by the French in 1859 and was under their control until 1954. Even today most of the architecture looks like what you see in France. In fact, in Paris there is a famous Cathedral called Notre Dame, and here in Ho Chi Minh City there is a replica of Notre Dame that is 1/3 smaller ... read more

Hi Kids, Sorry we haven’t written, but Uncle Arlyn and I have been really busy with work, but we did take some time out to go to a birthday party! It was a lot of fun. The birthday Party was for a little boy named Bach. He turned 1 year old and his Mom and Dad are good friends of Uncle Arlyn, so we were invited. It was a lot of fun. We had a different kind of dinner. First, everyone was given a bowl and a small plate and chop sticks. Have you ever eaten with chopsticks? It’s very hard if you’re not used to it, but after a while you learn how to do it. Next they placed a gas burner on the table and put a big pot of water on it. Then ... read more

Today Uncle Arlyn and I took a tour of Hanoi. We went with a group of tourists. In our group were people from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Germany and Australia. Everyone spoke English which made it nice. Our tour started at 8:30 AM and was over at 3:30 PM. The good news is that the minivan we took was air-conditioned and held 10 passengers. The bad news was that there were 14 people on the tour. Needless to say, we all sat very close together and we were very good friends by the end of the tour. I also became very good friends with Ms Huong, our tour guide. Remember what her name means? It means “flower” or “perfume”. Here is my picture with Ms. Huong. We first visited the Temple of Literacy which was founded ... read more

Chau (pronounce chow) is the word for hello in Vietnamese. Uncle Arlyn and I are still here in Hanoi. This afternoon it has been raining off and on but we may be getting out soon taking some pictures and seeing some mores sights in Hanoi. Hanoi is a big city. There are about 3,500,000 people who live in Hanoi. It is always noisy out on the streets. The traffic moves fast and there are lots of people honking their horns. The two most popular types of transportation are motor bikes and bicycles. Most of the cars are Taxi cabs and that is what uncle Arlyn and I ride when we go long distances, although most of the time we walk. The food here is really good. The food is very fresh - lots of very good ... read more

Flat Stanley is Checking In!

Hi Mrs. Stein and Kids, Flat Stanley here! I am looking forward to reporting to about my latest adventure. On Friday, October 13th, 2006 I headed to Vietnam with Steve Tucker’s uncle Arlyn. We are having quite a wonderful time, but it has been a very long journey. We got up early on Friday morning. Arlyn made certain that I was comfortable and protected in a book that he was carrying. He said I made a good bookmark, but I have to tell you, I have read that entire book now and it was boring. It was a safe place to sleep though. We had to fly from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Atlanta which took about 2 hours and 600 miles. We then got on board a Korean Airlines 747 Jet for a long flight to Seoul, ... read more
