SAME HERE PROBLEM WITH PHOTOS ... HA NOW YA ALL GOTTA WAIT TO VIEW A GLIMPSE (AND HOPEFULLY INHALE) LUANG PRABANG THROUGH MY PICTURES ... THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE A TOWN I GOT A 'COUP DE FOUDRE' FOR ... Alrighty enough bullshit about spirituality (even if the title may read different :-) ... It was time for mi to get myself to Luang Prabang as i had given myself an advanced Bday present ... 5 nights/ 6 days in the jungle learning and living with elephants ... Hopped a swaengtawn (i finally looked up the word for the benched open minivan, however no clue how to pronounce it) to Chiang Khong, the thai bordertown which connects via longboat crossing the Mekong with the the Lao bordertown XIay Pay ... Most of the way was ... read more

NOTE: SOMETHING HAPPENED WITH UPLOAD PICTURES ON THIS ONE ... SO I'LL DO THAT WHEN GOT ACCESS AGAIN (M OFF TO NORTH OF LAOS NOW ...) Every town, every village has its own center and i continuously look for places to stay just conveniently far enough to be out of the crowd, so Gin's Place it was ... owned by Gin, a thai lawyer who loves american westerns and is more of a poet and artist when you meet him than someone who you would expect to practice law ... and run by Lucy, his business oriented wife. But more about them later ... i ended up only 8km from the center of the Golden Triangle, which is a little island in the shape of an old ax in the middle of the Mekong where Birma ... read more

NOTE: ALL PICTURES ARE MIXED UP SO MY 'EDITED' PICTURE STORY DOES NOT EXIST IN NEXT FEW BLOGS ... M LEAVING LUANG PRABANG TODAY AND WILL NOT BE ONLINE FOR A WHILE (HAD TROUBLE ALSO HERE IN LP, HOWEVER THAT DOESN'T MEAN YA CAN'T ENJOY THEM ... Not only is Chiang Saen is one of the oldest towns of Thailand with a rich royal and religious history it's also less than 10km away from SopRuak, which is a tourist trap for those who want to be at the center of the Golden Triangle ... and the rest of the text fell away ... oh well, just the mixed up pictures then ... enjoy... read more

unfortunately i had started to cough and thought i was getting sick ... also my eyes had turned red and where really bothering mi, so i was like not in a good mood thinking i had attracked some kind of infection ... however i started to realise that it wasn't my body acting up however i've hit the main burning season where the farmers burn their old wasted crops, debris and leftovers from winter ... as agricultural is THE main way of living here, i have just been living in a cloud of burning smoke ... After 5 days in the mountains i decided it was time to move on ... i hopped in a taxi taking mi the exact opposite way i wanted to go ... west instead of east ... however i knew that ... read more

Aah the little pleasures of life ... in this far away village i have found the best bananabread i've ever tasted in mi life ... so have of course become a regular customer at the this heavenly local bakery (after losing 20 kilos i decided i can spoil myself a little bit). Here i met an advanced bycicle tourguide from england who was in search of some new routes ... i had seen him struggling up the mountain the day before and told him i was very much impressed, however that he was crazy ... a laughter accompanied by nodding of his head 'i've biked all over the world, the Andes, the Himalayas however this is the first place i have ever needed to dismount my bike and push it ... well i did at dirt ... read more

Exhausted and disillusioned i found my way back to the Mai Sae busterminal and decided to hop a bus to Chiang Rai, about one hour ride south of the border ... this time also an a/c bus, however now i knew to sit on the correct side away from the sun and way in front ... during this trip my frustration ebbed away and as much as i had wanted to toss away LP, i browsed through it again to find my next destination, a little remote village hidden away in the stretch of mountains west of me ... it was described as to have a chinese feeling as the inhabitants are descendents from immigrants which fled China in1949 when the communist took over ... once i arrived at downtown Chiang Rai i ended up ... read more

Patience and a healthy body r needed to move from one place to the next. I'm still having trouble with both. The fuse i didn't have anymore has grown back nowadays to a very very short one...m really working on getting it extended and thus being by myself again without a social life feels tremendously good. As for my body, the pressure during my two flights to Chiang Mai made my bruised ribs feel like they were being punched like a boxingbag ... a thai one no less with kicks and all... as i have a tendecy to not wanna mingle nor wanna be in touristy areas i had booked at the Pingthara, a little riverhotel a few km outside the center of Chiang Mai ... i was picked up from the airport by the sister ... read more

Just a few more things about Koh Phangan ... i think anyone who has ever been on an island coverd with jungle and an unknown it's easy to get lost, however i put into practise what i learned 30 years ago from my dear friend Eric ... always use visual references, a mailbox, an orange painted house, a generator, elephant park, antennas etc ... and if you then still can't find your way it doesn't matter either as at one point u just hit water again and one look up to the sky and the Sun, moon and or stars will tell ya what part of the island u are (midst of course u can read these natural directions - which i actually can ..,) so gotta say a few times i got lost , ... read more

Koh Phangan is known for its spiritual intent / content, and of course for the wonderful aqua sports etc, however what i think it's practically most known for is THE full moon party ... every month to be held at the most southeastern point of the island Haad Rin (where i was staying in my little oasis on the northwestern part of the island oasis on the northwestern part of the island Haad Tian) ... thousands of party animals flock to the island days before the full moon which i really noticed on the roads ... way more mopeds and way more accidents which reminded mi once again howsmart i had been to have rented my jeep ... wsmart i had been to have rented my jeep ... i first hooked up with Marion and Liza ... read more
