So part two.... (apologies its rather a long one! but far too much to say!) Day 9 - Lukla to Pakding, 2610m So started from Lukla, through the white gateway down into the valley below. Really cool walk, and nice and easy with lots of painted mani walls and stones along the way. Still feeling really dodgy though even though we'd both taken the same antibiotics. So after a couple of hours walking called it a day. It was getting late anyway so walked to the furthest part of Phakding and found a bargain of a room, running hot shower and everything! Day 10 - Pakding to Namche Bazaar, 3420m Still feeling awful but decided to carry on up to Namche Bazaar, much bigger place and thinking it may be time to consult somebody in the ... read more

Where to begin.... We've seen so much stuff, so having to split this up into sections. And even so to describe this all properly you could easily write a book! Will complete the next part within a couple of days! So arrived in Kathmandu on the 10th February, absolutely amazing views form the plane... huge white Himalayan mountains stretching on forever. Spent a day negotiating all of the cycles, rickshaws, honking bikes/cars etc and picked up a few last essentials for the trip - Puffer jacket, map(!), compass, 'Oakley' sunnies, and a few other spares. Loads of bargaining and may have pulled off a few good deals - although probably not! Kathmandu is a pretty crazy place, really dusty, dirty and lots of fumes, incense everywhere. Hardly any tourists as it was only the beginning of ... read more

So spent a couple of days relaxing (on a budget) and started off the diving again. All the hype about seeing the sharks etc left a little too much to the imagination. Obviously your not expecting tens of them swimming by but it was pretty lame all the same. First dive, up at 5am(best time for shark spotting) went down to the cleaning station, just sat at 22 meters waiting for something to happen, odd bat fish maybe, but spent the rest of the time trying to find large shapes in the blue. Came up no sharks the better! So next day, again a very early morning, same result! To be fair we did see some devil rays (huge) and a silhouette of something moving (shark) in the blue! But wasn't exactly a sighting. The next ... read more

So after spending 1 1/2 years (!) in Scandinavia, finally have some spare cash to go crazy on the other side of the world again! I have lots of old fellow travellers on my mailing list, so if it's just too depressing reading more of my ramblings then there should be a link in the mail to remove yourself, otherwise...enjoy! Plan so far is to go over to the Philippines (17/01), Nepal (12/02), and then back to Bali and the Gili's (26/03)! So left Leicester on the 12th to spend a night in Gatwick, ready to fly to Bangkok on the 13th. After an 'enjoyable' night on the floor woke to be told that the whole airport was closed!!!! An inch of snow, 0 oC! Got a bus to Heathrow and got on an alternative plane ... read more

So got the train up to Hat Yai(Thailand) in my 'luxury' sleeper. Was pretty excited for all of half an hour, but really nice to be able to lie down, wander around etc. Arrived in Hat Yai the following morning after the very quick border formalities. So booked another train for a couple of hours later to Bangkok. Gazing out of the window at all the rice fields and lots of lotus ponds. Nice and cheap in Thailand so had a couple of Chang's to pass the time. Soon came down the sleepers so into bed. Arrived in Bangkok early next morning. Pretty much missed out every part of Thailand that people would associate with it, in one go. Plan was to go to Northern Thailand and then over to Loas. In Bangkok changed my flight ... read more

Yeah I know 'another one'! Gonna be the last one for a while though. Just thought i'd do one quick short one with the last bits from Borneo. Took a day off to recover from climbing that beast of a mountain and then took a night bus down to Semporna. Not known as one of the nicer places in Borneo and arriving at 4am probably wasn't my best idea. But after a couple of hours kip onto the boat to Sipidan. Known as one of the best sites in the world and didn't disappoint. Passed Mabul on the way also, cool houses. Before we even got into the water we could see turtles swimming round the boat! Beautiful weather aswell, been a while since I'd seen proper sun. Been raining most days the rest of my ... read more

So took a flight over to Kota Kinabalu (KK) on the 8th June, straight over to the Parks office to sort out my very expensive booking to stay on the side of Mount Kinabalu. Had booked a room for 208 Rm, about 40 quid! Discovered that this included meals though, so persuaded them to give it to me without meals, only 80 Rm (25 quid for 4 meals?!). So had a relax in KK in preparation for the hike tomorrow. Up at 6am and went to find a shuttle bus, luckily found a few other travelers heading over, so after more noodles for breakfast drove up to the park entrance. After signing in they gave me my meal coupons, bargain!! Although had taken loads of food myself which I had to carry, but couldn't complain! So ... read more

So took a flight from Kuala Lumpur on the 25th May to Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo. Spent a day wandering round Kuching, nothing too exciting to report but is a nice little place. Got an early bus the next day, followed by a boat over to the Bako National Park to do some trekking. Arrived there by 9am so after a noodle breakfast went for a wander. Really nice jungle and loads of Macaques everywhere. A little scary though as they can be quite aggressive, so ended up carrying a monkey stick at all times for protection. Very nice jungle, although as usual the animals where all hiding away. There was a board walk leading over some mangroves to the start of the trails, so went down in the afternoon to find some animals. Really lucky and ... read more

So took a flight from Bali on the 10th May, really sad to leave, back to traveling alone again! Arrived in Kuala Lumpur(KL) and after wandering around the airport for ages finally worked out how to get to the centre. Got the bus straight to China town and managed to locate a hostal. Had to wait a day before I could go to the embassy, so just explored China town and enjoyed some new foods. Went to the embassy first thing Monday morning to get a new passport. Far too much money and a couple of very traveler-esque photos later, sorted my application, ready in two weeks! Hadn't really planned any sort of travel itinerary so after consulting the guide, organised a bus up to the Cameron Highlands. Ended up waiting in the bus station for ... read more

Sorry about the delay, spending too much time doing nothing on fabulous islands, well one! So arrived in Bali and took a taxi to Kuta. Definitely tell your in Asia, amazing amount of motorbikes everywhere. Spent a couple of days in Kuta wandering around the narrow streets trying to ignore all the touts and chillin on the beach avoiding all the touts! Decided to head over to Ubud next, cultural capital of Bali. Loads of temples everywhere and had a quite relax wandering round all the crafty shops, walking in the padi fields and went over to monkey forest. Although 2 mins into the forest the monkeys all disappeared as we'd been caught in a tremendous downpour. After 2 days in Ubud headed over to the Gili Islands, main idea was to finish off my PADI ... read more
