Today we drove from Chapel Hill to Richmond, Virginia to see Neha! 2.5 hours of driving felt like ten minutes compared to our previous days. We arrived in Richmond at 1:30, got lunch at a local brewhouse, toured her medical school and the capitol, and came back to her place for some much needed relaxation. She even made us a delicious dinner and hot chocolate later! Tomorrow we will be heading to DC to stop in for lunch with Jenn, followed by our final destination of Island Heights, New Jersey!... read more

Today we headed out from Nashville to Chapel Hill to visit Lisa, Jason and Jack. The drive ended up taking much longer than the navigation system, i-phone, and various websites had predicted, but it was definitely a pretty one. Along the way we saw a beautiful sunset over the smokey mountains and felt fortunate to not have seen a single deer! The moon has been quite a sight the past few days, but unfortunately doesn't photograph. We lost an hour during today's trip and feel much closer to our final destination now that we are officially in the east coast time zone! The car is beginning to feel pretty cramped and we a little lazy due to the lack of movement throughout our days. We are looking forward to getting out of the car and actually ... read more

Today we woke up in Little Rock, Arkansas and our gracious hosts (Tasha and Wes) made us a delicious breakfast! It was our first home-cooked meal in awhile, and it was incredible. After enjoying our treat, Tasha sent us off with a fabulous cooler for the road filled with delicious snacks, which we were sure to enjoy along the way. In case anyone hasn't tried "Stix" by Pringles, do try. They are delicious! Andrew drove the whole way, again. We saw a big pyramid in Memphis and named Tennessee the Land of Swamps and Adult Book Stores. Every mile had a giant billboard advertising adult literature. We guess adults read a lot. We made it to Nashville around 3:30, and got to our hotel room just in time to see the very start of the Chargers' ... read more

After two days in Austin, we headed to Arkansas. The big event of the day, before arriving in Arkansas, was stopping at Roy T.'s Bakery. It was located off the highway in a quant little cottage full of many Texans. We met Roy T. himself, and were entertained by the Texans' excitement surrounding the availability of fresh pigs in a blanket. In addition to the Texans' excitement, Krystal was ecstatic that they carried, and emphasized the superiority of Mexican Coke, because she, too, has a strong love and admiration for the taste of Mexican Coke. After customer upon customer came in and ordered unique items, we began feeling slightly lame that we were eating simple, plain sandwiches, but that was all resolved upon further chatting with Roy T. Like a true Texan, he made us feel ... read more

After checking out of our hotel in Kerrville, we headed outside and couldn't believe it was beautiful, sunny, and 75 degrees! Texas weather was better than California--we were sure someone was playing tricks on us. We drove to San Antonio to see the Alamo, where we learned it looks nothing like it did in Peewee's Big Adventure. We did, however, see David Crockett's hair in a locket, and learned that Richard Stockton was the only known man to die at the Alamo from New Jersey, and that's why there is a New Jersey university named after him. We saw the first hospital in Texas, which was at the Alamo, and found it very interesting that they brought Camel from Africa to the Alamo thinking they would do well in the "desert". The camel was no match ... read more

Today we got breakfast in Albuquerque, and headed out on the road. Krystal drove 12 hours and we made it to beautiful Kerrville, Texas. During our drive we named New Mexico the land of shrubs, not the land of enchantment, and Texas the land of deer. Krystal has never had to drive and look out for deer. After a terrifying experience, and an after dark deer sighting count of over 20, we made friends with a truck driver whose high beams were very helpful in looking out for deer, and followed him for the last 200 miles. We arrived in Kerrville, which is a little under an hour outside of San Antonio, at 2:30 in the morning. You know you're in a trucker town when there are special rates for just being there to sleep...... read more

Today we got bagels in Sedona and headed to the Grand Canyon. There aren't really words to describe how beautiful it was...only pictures can begin to describe it. We couldn't believe how large it was, and how it seemed to come out of nowhere. Since we were coming from the South, we were driving through valleys for awhile, wondering how a giant canyon was going to magically appear. We entered the park and still nothing. Finally, we caught a glimpse of it on our right and couldn't believe it! We stopped at three different views, where at one view, we could see the beautiful bright green Colorado River. After that, we headed to New Mexico. Lots of driving, and lots of fog, and when 10:30 hit, we decided we were done and stopped off in Albuquerque, ... read more

We left Sunday at 10am, and headed out on the 8 East. Our first stop was at the Golden Acorn Casino where we learned this trip was going to be a good one. We stopped at the Casino mostly for restroom use, but decided we might as well gamble and see what happens. We each put two dollars in quarter slots, and on the very last pull of the lever we decided to both put our hands on the lever, and BOOM, we won $12. Our dreams are coming true. We tripled our money--in one word, success. After that excitement, we drove about 7/8 hours, trying to switch off every 100 miles and stopping at interesting gas stations and such along the way. They have a gas station chain called Love's here in Arizona. It's kind ... read more

We originally planned on leaving earlier, but decided we couldn't leave San Diego with such an important game for the Chargers remaining! We ended up staying, and thankfully provided great luck to the Chargers, leading them to a victory that was unbelievable! We both woke up way earlier than we had planned on the day of our departure, like a bunch of kids heading to Disneyland or something. We spent about half an hour packing up the car and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. When Andy came to California back in August of 2003, he stopped and took a picture of his jeep on a certain cliff in Pacific Beach, so we decided it was appropriate to do the same on our departure. At the day and time we left it was, of course, beautiful and almost ... read more
