Going to the cinema The day was about as exciting as yesterday. Somehow I managed to go out to seven eleven and buy water but the rest was much the same. In the afternoon I remembered that the movie "Step Up 2" which I wanted to see should be shown now. I called K to find out if he wanted to join but he had Japanese class. I really wanted to see the movie and after nearly two days mainly spent in my room I realized that I had to overcome my fear of getting lost and get out. Therefore I [View Full Entry]

Thailand on my own When I woke up I had a really strange feeling. K wouldn't come to pick me up, we wouldn't be spending the day together. It's not, that I can't be on my own or have a look around "town" by myself, but this is Bangkok, K told me that there is no such thing as a map, and I have a terrible sense of orientation. Honestly, I was scared that if I left my backpacker I'd most probably never find back again and be lost in this huge city forever. I felt really planless as what to [View Full Entry]

Flight of the Gibbon I love Chiang Mai and it's a great place to be. The only thing I can't deal with are the mosquitos. I must have been bitten a thousand times by now and K just laughed and said "look, I got ONE too". So far I've had rather bad nights being itchy on every inch of my skin. I actually had a mosquito repellent with me (the best on the market, according to my uncle Felix) but it didn't seem to do the trick. Yesterday I've finally come up with the idea of buying a different one - [View Full Entry]

Day Off After two weeks of travelling I finally got my very first day off. I know what you think, I've heard it many times before "what do you need a day off for, you've got a really long vacation". At this point I'd like to stress again that travelling is not equal a vacation. Poor me doesn't even have weekends. Ok ok, I don't need you to feel sorry for me at this point ;) But seriously, travelling is tiring because there are so many things to see and do and I think it's even more tiring for me than [View Full Entry]

Wedding It has been a short night. When we arrived in Lampang I was given a sheet and asked to spread it on the wooden floor of the house and sleep. Lying there I tried to remember when I had last slept on the floor and I had come to the conclusion that this is most likely a first. It took me ages to fall asleep. Not because of the lack of comfort I'm used to but because of K and his friends laughing outside and all the impressions I've gained since travelling seemed to occupy my mind endlessly. Furthermore it [View Full Entry]

Thai dinner Have I already mentioned that traveling is really tiring? Well it is! Therefore it was time for sleeping most of the morning and then spend the afternoon at a nice cafe talking and reading. In the evening we were picked up by Tai. Together we went to yet another friend from work called Joe. His wife's just had a baby about a month ago and we were invited to go and have a look at it. It's Joe's second child and a really adorable little baby boy. I thought that we'd just go by, look at the baby, have [View Full Entry]

A night out the local way Today K and I joined another tour to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangel north east of Chiang Mai. We spent most of the day in the bus for we had to drive three hours each way. We looked at yet another temple, had lunch and then went to the golden triangle which is the boarder between Thailand, Laos and Burma. Everyone was impressed by the view and they were excited about being able to see three countries at once. Because I live near a boarder triangle myself (Switzerland, Germany, France) I didn't think it [View Full Entry]

Hot Spring Today K and I rented a motor bike. We drove for about one hour to a place south east of Chiang Mai to look at the Sankampaeng Hot Springs. The water of the springs is over 100 degrees hot. There was a swimming pool with water of the springs mixed with cold water. Needles to say that this time my cloths were off in no time and I was the first one to be in the pool. I loved swimming there although in some areas where the water wasn't mixed well it was really hot and it felt like [View Full Entry]

First tour Today it was time to do a bit of a tourist program. We were picked up at the home stay in the mourning. First stop was elephant riding. I would have liked to skip that part. Not only was I not as excited as everybody else but also because I'm not supportive of it. I don't think that these animals should be abused as a tourist attraction. But it was part of the tour and I guess it wouldn't have made a difference if I would have stayed in the tour bus refusing to join. After the tour we [View Full Entry]

Heading north I had to get up at 4.30 in the morning in order to pack and get ready to go to the airport. We had meant to book the later flight at 10am but had found out when K received the booking confirmation that we had accidentally booked the earlier one. Hey, traveling is not as easy as it seems ;) The flight was good and although it only lasted one hour we managed to catch up a bit on much needed sleep. At the airport I took all the brochures with me that looked interesting. We then took a [View Full Entry]
