We're an adventurous young Aussie couple apparently suffering from the common 'mid twenties crisis'... We've got the job, got the house, all that boring stuff.... But something is definitely missing????!
We discovered our mutual love for travelling after our first amazing experience together in Thailand and soon after, an adrenalin packed trip to New Zealand!!
A local travel expo in our home town Brisbane opened our eyes to a world crying for OUR footsteps and after learning we're both lucky enough to be eligible for EU Passports, the target departure date was set and here we are now living the dream!!!!
Anticipation is half the fun :)
We're so addicted to Travel Blog, just perusing everyones blogs and the forum for any 'been there done that' advice we can get. It's amazing the information you can source from other people's experiences - Goodbye Lonely Planet!
Leaving January 2010, we are determined to cover the following countries over a 6 month period of hardcore backpacking in Asia:
Malaysia
Singapore
Thailand
India
Nepal
Vietnam
Laos
Cambodia
China
Hong Kong
Japan
Any advice or suggestions are welcome always!!
BRING IT ON!!!
Peace
Back to KL for the third time and we’d had just about enough of this big stinky city. It’s a love/hate thing. We ended up having to waste 3 nights in KL all because of this Indian visa. Definitely something we should have sorted in Australia. Can you believe the second time we went to the Indian consulate to hand in our passports after approval, it was closed for an Indian public holiday, again?!! And this was on Australia Day! We then spent the day in our hotel room listening to the triple J countdown online, which felt really lame and made us miss home so much, but it was worth it. It was the only place we could listen, so don’t blame us for not going out to celebrate!! After finally obtaining these golden visas

When the train stopped for 10 minutes in KL we planned to quickly get off and purchase the rest of our journey after visiting an ATM. Little did we know, that journey was already fully booked and the next train was not until 10pm, meaning we would arrive in quiet little Ipoh at 2am! Not ideal. We had originally planned to stay in Ipoh for one night before heading to Cameron Highlands the next day, but missing that train really blew our plans. So

We ended up spending 3 nights in the ‘Venice of the East’, however we feel 2 nights is more than enough, perhaps we just got lazy, as 3 nights is probably too much. Of course we faced some sort of drama during this time and it had to be in the first half hour of arriving. The hostel we had booked was completly padlocked and shut up when we arrived (Little Nyonya Guesthouse - don’t bother). Luckily the ‘teksi’ knew another one nearby and we were soon welcomed in by the nice owner of ‘Kancil Guest House’, who owned and ran Melaka’s oldest guest house. It was a beautiful place, he’d done it up really nicely with a rather patriotic, antique feel.

We had slept in by about an hour and soon realised the LRT (Light Rail Train) just wouldn’t cut it for time. We pulled up a taxi, negotiated the price and loaded our gear in. We made it to the airport just in time to catch our baby plane to Singapore and even managed to smash down some Maccas! The descending into Singapore was beautiful, there were literally over 200 various ships in the harbour and the water looked so nice. The airport was fully carpeted and extremely clean, you know you’re definitely not in Malaysia when you arrive there. Arriving at our hostel we were so happy to get into the air-con and out of the immense heat. Singapore is

I guess there will always be things going wrong here and there on a trip like this... Once we'd finished in customs and all that boring stuff, we trekked outside to find a bland and rainy sky along with some humidity, a billion desperate taxis and people everywhere! Air Asia have their own airport in KL which is a little bit special, it's called the KL low cost carrier terminal (LCCT) and is the central hub for most of Air Asia's international as well as domestic flights. We eventually found our pre-booked skybus and were led onto the bus by friendly bus boys with umbrellas. The bus trip to

After an emotional rollercoaster of hugs and goodbye tears, we finally flew out of the Gold Coast Airport on a perfectly sunny Queensland day. Typical. It’s also ironic that leaving your family and friends can bring all the people you care about so closely together, making it so much harder to say goodbye. It’s been perfect spending our time with family over Christmas and New Year; so many get togethers and excuses to celebrate everything at once - If I could recommend the perfect time to leave your life behind to embark upon travel overseas, it would definitely be in the new year. It’s a very achievable resolution if you plan well and want it badly enough! Planning this
