Well here in Spain during Spring, there is a big thing called "The Patios" which is basically when people have spent time making their patios look beautiful with bright flowers, pots, waterfalls, etc. It takes place in Cordoba for a few weeks, and it is quite a sight. There are 78 patios this year, and they print maps in all the papers and you can tour the city and go into all of the patios for free. They give out awards and each patio boasts their previous winnings on tiles . Some win awards for architecture and they can win various other prizes, they also give out honorable mentions. There are famous buildings in the city that you can also enter to look at the patios within the castle, per say, and entry is free, where ... read more

We had a Puente last weekend, which means like a long weekend. Friday was "Dia del Trabajo" aka work day. So it was a National holiday and everyone had the day off. A teacher from Cecilia's school was going to Huelva because her fiance went to school there. So we got a ride with them Thursday evening after school. The ride was about 3 hours and of course it was all windy and crazy, so I wasn't feeling so hot. But we finally got to Punta Umbria, which is like a peninsula in Huelva. They drove us to our hotel, the Pato Amarillo (yellow duck), and then went to their hotel. Ours was decent, we had a very big balcony that looked over the pool/courtyard and out to the ocean. It was a great view. Friday ... read more

Well I had quite the vacation! Bear with me, as this might be a long entry. Kevin flew into Malaga on Thursday the 2nd of April and we spent the night in Malaga. Friday morning we flew from Malaga to Vienna. AirBerlin was the airline we flew on, and I could not say enough good things about them and their services!! But anyways... we arrived in Vienna around 4:30pm or so and took the CAT system, which is a more expensive government run subway that took us to the city center. They have a regular subway system, but they don't advertise it as they want to make more money. But I had to ask a few people for help trying to get to the other train station on the Western side of Vienna, but the ones ... read more

Well... being the big group of Americans we are we thought we should have a St. Patty's Day party, because that seems to be a fun day to celebrate in the USA. So we invited our teachers over for a party. We made meatballs, a delicious roasted red pepper salad with onions, and a few pizzas. David brought lots of yummy candies, some kind of like M&Ms and gummy "besitos" which means "little kisses" which I absolutely love! We also had olives and potato chips, of course! We had a good turn out! We served Spanish beer, although Christine brought a few Guinness to share, but no one could really handle that kind of beer, haha, and we also had some Spanish wine. It wasn't a very Irish party, although we did make a delicious Shepard's ... read more

Well... last week was fun! When I came back to Spain after Christmas break, I brought with me some packets of taco seasoning... and I thought about how I haven't used them yet the other day, so Ceci and I decided to have a mexican night. And since we have our wonderful blender that we recently purchased, what would be more fitting to drink than Margaritas?! So Thursday night we had 8 guests over for dinner-- we made tacos, home-made mexican rice as well as beans, which were also very tastey!! Most of the guests hadn't had that kind of food before, so it was really fun. They didn't really know how to assemble a taco. I love making stuff from scratch, so I know these are things that I am going to want to make ... read more

What a weekend! My parents arrived last week in Priego on Tuesday. I showed them the Balcon del Ardave and the Fuente del Rey, as well as the rest of Priego, which took all of an hour. We had lunch at the Barbacoa on Tuesday because I wanted mom to try the "secreto" and she indeed loved it. Wednesday they went to Granada while I was at school to visit the Alhambra. Wednesday night we just made some tortilla at my apartment. Thursday after school, we drove from Priego to Ronda which is supposedly the spiritual home of bullfighting. Although I didn't see much in the way of bullfighting aside from the ring, but the city itself was gorgeous. It had a huge balcon overlooking the edge of the city. It also had a large bridge ... read more

I thought I would post some pictures on here so you can see my students. This week Rachel and I switched schedules, so now I will be doing 3 year olds, 1st, 2nd and 5th grade. I will really miss my kids, but I guess it will probably be nice to have a change. This weekend we had gorgeous weather again. Friday night Cecilia and I just relaxed. Each week we have been cooking something new, and last week it was Moroccan chicken stew with sweet potatoes. it was DELICIOUS! Saturday we walked around the city because it was so nice out. We got our eyebrows "waxed" which actually entailed a woman tweezing them and ripping out our skin. Not pleasant, but you live and you learn right? Carnaval starts this weekend and there was supposed ... read more

So since things have been a bit boring here in Priego, we decided to liven things up by having an 80's themed party. We invited teachers from our school as well as Cecilia's school. About 20 or so people attended, it was quite fun. We made jello shots since they had never heard of them. They were a big hit! We also taught them how to play "flippy cup" which is a game that has 2 teams in a line down the table and each person has a cup wiht a small amount of beer in it. You must drink the beer and then put the cup on the edge of the table and flip it over and get it to land upside down. After you do that, it is the next person on your teams ... read more

We had a good weekend in Portugal! Friday we left school a little bit early, we got the hook up cuz we went with the school secretary! We left Priego at about 2:00 and headed to Extremadura, which is the furthest province in Spain, closest to Portugal, where Lourdes’ boyfriend, Luis, lives. It took about 2 and a half hours to get there, but we got Luis and then headed to Lisbon. It took about 3 hours from there, but he brought his GPS so it was a pretty smooth trip. We arrived in Lisbon at about 9:00 or so and went to the wrong hostel first, but we found ours down the street and checked it. We had some difficulty due to the language difference, but we got to our room and got all settled ... read more

Well… it has been quite the week! Thanksgiving turned out fabulous! We ended up having more guests than we originally planned, we had 9 in total. It was Cecilia, Rachel and myself, along with David, Ana, Lourdes and Sole from our school, and Mari Carmen from Cecilia’s school and her boyfriend’s friend Vicente. We started the day by buying 7 kilos of turkey. We went to the butcher shop across the street from our house and the man there was very nice. He cut the turkey for us and cleaned it. We took it home and seasoned it and put it into the refrigerator. After school we came home and started preparations for dinner. Around 8:30 or so, guests started to arrive. We had wine and a few small snacks before dinner. Since our oven is ... read more
