Welcome to my way of lighting fires. I consider my method good because it works. I have decided to share The Rolfe Method with the world because I feel others who are have the shared responsibility of lighting and maintaining a fire (such as one in the family home in a cold climate region) should really have the skills to fulfil their responsibility. So please feel free to share this. Hey, lets go viral. I've written a step by step guide...... to The Rolfe Method of fire lighting. Eat it up.... read more

It's not often that I find myself thanking my 11 month old for waking me up at the crack of dawn - or before it - but today was an exception. Sunny decided it was time to get up at about 6am on one of our last days at the beautiful holiday house we'd been renting with Nick and Suzy Pugh at Lilli Pilli, just south of Bateman's Bay, a few hours south of Sydney. Upon hearing Sunny's cries, James and I made the usual groans of tiredness in the hope the other would take pity enough to offer to be the one who got up to do the morning Sunny ritual. Today that was me, and James got the sleep in. Nice, aren't I. But I'm not that nice. I couldn't help it. When I ... read more

Now it's no secret that I like a bloke doing a blokey job - you know, something where he gets a bit dirty and looks like he's being capable. Yes, that's it - capable. But I've had my suspicions for a long time now, that no matter how much I like to look on at men in action, it's the men who don't usually get to get the opportunity to get their hands dirty who are secretly ITCHING to get out there and get some muck under their fingernails. I wouldn't mention the word desperate if I didn't have to. And so it brings me to my next blog post. It was getting towards the end of our two weeks with the Pughs when we found ourselves at home in Colo Vale facing a day of ... read more

Huskisson: one wedding ring lost in the sand We ventured out of the round house on the Shoalhaven River for a bit of an explore. Suzy, Nick, Erin, James and Sunny piled into the car and drove south to Huskisson, a cute little town on the edge of Jervis Bay, NSW. The weather looked a bit dodgy - the rain started on the way there, so we headed straight to the Husky pub for some lunch. There's always huge servings at the Husky pub, and we managed to dodge most of the fried food, except the chips which seem to come with everything. But sitting outside, and the wind coming at us with spits of rain every now and again, the fried food got more appealing.. as it does in the cold. We introduced our ... read more

Hooray! Our beautiful baby boy, Sunny, was born at 5.46pm on Monday 10 May, 2010 at Manly Hospital in Sydney. After a full on and rather traumatic labour that lasted about 20 hours too long... Sunny was born weighing 3.880kg, 53cm long with all his fingers and toes and needing a bit of oxygen for a while. He soon perked up and has been going strong ever since. He's amazing.. so, so, so perfect and gorgeous! FYI on the name Sunny - we called him that because we really just like the name Sunny. To us it gives a great feeling - of energy, warmth, life, growth, joy and happiness. Who doesn't feel happy when it's sunny? His surname is Campbell-Rolfe - James will remain James Rolfe and I will remain Erin Campbell as we always ... read more

We had an awesome five days up in Cairns with Leithal and Phillma, Erin's sister and brother in law (and James' too now) and it was extremely relaxing. I hadn't been to Cairns for five years approximately (?) and had never been to their new house in the rainforest in Bayview Heights. Wow - what an amazing place - it's seriously like a treehouse amongst the tropical rainforest. It is all made of wood, there are logs and trees making up the frame of the house and there are loads of rooms and bits of sections everywhere. It rained the whole time we were there, which gave us time (and the excuse) to do very little and chill out without guilt. However, we did get out and about enough to paint Port Douglas town red, as ... read more

The Sound Relief concerts were held in Sydney and Melbourne to raise funds for the vicitms of the Victorian bushfires - the biggest natural disaster Australia has ever experienced. I think they raised nearly $2 million from the Sydney concert alone. The line-up was awesome - these band were spread between Melbourne and Sydney and they had one band on stage while the other was on the massive video screens streaming live between the two. It worked really well because from where we were we couldn't really see our stage very well anyway! There was - Augie March, Architecture in Helsinki, Bliss N Eso with Paris Wells, Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees, Gabriella Cilmi, Coldplay, Hunters & Collectors, Eskimo Joe, Jack Johnson, Hoodoo Gurus, Jet, Icehouse, Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson w/ Troy Cassar-Daley, Kings ... read more

We had a fairly quiet Christmas this year. It was just me, James, Mum, Dad and Gowzaaaaa, and on Christams Day we all met under Roseville Bridge for a picnic! Mum and Dad went to church while James and I did the present thing at home and I think we even went for a run on the beach and got some exercise in, as there was definitely going to be none of that later. We all went BYO on the lunch food and all managed to bring loads of tasty stuff. Then we put it all together on our table and shared it around. After lunch we kicked back on rugs under the trees and chilled out, playing UNO. There were loads of families down there in the Garigal National Park which runs alongside Middle Harbour, ... read more
