I am sitting in an Internet cafe in Santa Cruz Bolivia making one last entry into this travel blog. Yesterday I parted with my new friends again and left Sucre with mixed feelings of sadness and excitement as I realized I was heading to my final destination and departure point. So here I am reflecting on a full 15 weeks of travel not knowing what the future holds for me. What I do know is

Today is Thanksgiving and I am yet again travelling instead of eating enormous amounts of food with my family. Then again sometimes I feel like every almuerzo over here in South America is a small version of Thanksgiving. I have settled into my nexttolast destination Sucre Bolivia. After my Salar de Uyuni tour I took a bus ride to Potosi the highest city in the world. I met a compaero

I am in Bolivia entering my last month of travels. I crossed the ChileBolivia border through a tour of Salar de Uyuni. I had read about different tours finally decided that they're all actually the same and hopped on a tour with Estrella del Sur who set me up with a group who had paid Cordierra tours. Basically we were driven to the frontera by the company where they contracted a driver

Chile here I am

I am in Chile. I arrived yesterday after a horrible smell stuffy bus ride from Puno on Lake Titicaca. After six weeks I finally managed to leave Peru. . . I wasnt sure I would. Entering Chile felt as though I've entered a new phase of my travels. The first few hours in Arica felt as dazed and confused as I first did in Ecuador. However Arica is quite a bit smaller than Quito and I got

I spent my first weekend visiting Machu Picchu with my English friend Nadia. We took the train and bus since hiking the Inca trail requires reservations months in advance. We managed to get our walking in as we climbed Waynapicchu the small mountain that overlooks the ruins. The city itself was

I am beginning the end of my stay here in Ecuador. There has been true beauty in people I have met and the places I have seen. A general concern for this region has emmulated from my experiences and somehow I know I will be back here.I spent my week attending classes in the morning and volunteering with children in the outskirts of the city. I spent time drawing with the younger girls teaching

I spent my weekend in Mindo a cloud forest that actually is a beautiful cloudy forest with an amazing amount of growth and vegetation including spiders huge butterflies birds and other strange insects. The pueblo itself is small and friendly with plenty of locals to talk to and tiendas to look into. It had a similar vibe to Monte Verde in Costa Rica. We were dropped off on the highway i

My days have been full of discovery adventure and new faces since I last wrote. Last week I visited La Casa de Las Mujeres in Quito. It is a jail full of women and children who have been accused of being in possession of drogas. Others have been charged with killing their novioshusbands. We brought gifts for the women because they have so little. There are about 2030 foreigners there
