Mud Jail

So we finally got down to the beach for a weekend, and what a weekend it was! The weekend before last was the famous (amongst foreigners living in Korea, at least) Boryeong Mud festival. We had been assured that it would be the best weekend of the year, and that if we were to miss it we'd be stupid. So we made plans with Lisa, Ryan and Amy to head out and stay for the Weekend. This was our first train ride in Korea. Actually, come to think of it, it was my first train ride ever, if you don't count [View Full Entry]

Just a quick post. Went down to the market and found some produce. Here's some pictures, an idea of what it's like cooking here. All these for just under twenty bucks. [View Full Entry]

Living here in South Korea, I've found, can feel very much like living back at home. The strangeness that I originally felt, and to tell the truth not that deeply, soon passed. You get used to being the only white guy around. The language barrier becomes the norm. Hand waving and pantomime becomes easy enough. Just wait until I get home and play late night charades again. I will be the best!! The food is fun, but mostly, at home, I cook western food for Erin and I, giving her something she is used to after her adventures of Korean lunches [View Full Entry]

So I promised I would update soon, and here I am. I think I last left off with bungee jumping. We have been a lot more low key than that this month, but I still figure someone reads this, so I might as well post. The weekend after the bungee jumping, we were invited by some friends of Lisa and Ryan's, coincidentally some are from Regina and Carlyle, to their going away party. The five girls were all done their contracts and were heading for a vacation in Southeast Asia, then home. I think some of them will be back, we'll [View Full Entry]

So, Saturday was my birthday. Twenty nine. I guess I'm old. Ah, well, I try to take it in stride. I may be almost thirty, but I'm on the other side of the world, so I guess that's OK. We were invited to share a birthday picnic with some friends, but I had kind of set my sights on doing some site-seeing so we declined. So we decided that a good day would be to go to the top of the Seoul Tower and see the city. But first, on Friday, we went out for supper with Erin's co-teacher, Sue. She [View Full Entry]

I have one more to write, but I have exhausted my writing for today. Instead I will post some random photos that do not really fit in a blog. They are just neat things that we have seen and thought were picture worthy. They are also the sort of thing my mom is interested in seeing, so this one is for you, Mom. They are also things, that when I see the picture, I am reminded how much I really like it here. I think people should come and visit us so you can love them too! When we say it [View Full Entry]

On May 31st, Lisa had planned a birthday party for Ryan. I had been felling pretty terrible the day before, and was actually planning to get up and go to the hospital that morning. Instead, we decided to stay up until 3AM watching No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, so I slept past the International Clinics hours. It was okay though. The plague seemed to have subsided, and I was feeling the best I had in days. I think it was an omen, as we has really been looking forward to this party. It was planned to be in Yuldong Park. I have discovered how hot it is here. I was told that summer will be hot, but I thought, "I am from the prairies. We have the most extreme weather, I can handle it". I was wrong. It is not even hot yet, and I find myself sweating to death on a regular basis. For Bikram Yoga, my natural ability to sweat like a pig is great. It is cleansing and freeing and amazing. For teaching and riding the subway and living it is not a gift. It is a burden. So, I decided that since I have tattoos that have [View Full Entry]

I have promised a blog for awhile now, but as some of you know I have been quite sick. I have had a nasty, terrible sinus and chest thing that would not go away. That being said, the last thing I felt like doing was thinking and typing. I am feeling a lot better these days, so I will attempt to catch up on what we have been up to for the past month. The third weekend, Lisa and Ryan invited us to their place for a visit. We planned to stay overnight, so it was all good. They live in [View Full Entry]
