Travel Blog | Erin and Jeffry http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Erin-and-Jeffry/ Travel adventures in journals and photos from Erin and Jeffry en-us Wed, 30 Dec 2009 01:40:59 +0000 Wed, 30 Dec 2009 01:40:59 +0000 Tokyo Weekend So a few weeks ago Erin and I caught a plane and headed to Tokyo Japan for the weekend. It might seem silly to spend only a couple of days in one of the culturally richest countries in the world but when it comes down to it we got to go to Japan We wished we had more time but what can you do We did as much as we could. We flew out of Incheon International Airport Friday afternoon. It was http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Japan/Tokyo/blog-339877.html At long last another blog. I'm sorry that this blog has been so long coming I guess I've just been lazy. It's hard for us to remember sometimes that this blog is you people at home's way of keeping up with our lives. We started this blog thinking of it as a travel blog but the longer we're here the less it feels like we are traveling and the more it feels like home. This is a good thing. We are comfortable here and http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-334011.html A night of fun Erin So after chilling at our place for a couple hours and relaxing we decided it was time to eat. Rob wanted to take Kristen for Korean Barbecue one more time so thought we would take to them to CowPig our local restaurant. Now we know that this is not the real name of the place but it is more fun for us to make names for the places we frequent. It makes them more like ours in our minds I suppos http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Seoul/Hongik/blog-316286.html A day of touristy things Erin I last left off with South American music in an Indian restaurant. The next day was even more eventful. My friend Rob from Weyburn and his little sister Kristen were in Seoul for her last weekend before she flew back to Saskatchewan. Anyhow I had not seen Rob or Kat in ages and was looking forward to sightseeing with them.Rob called around 10 AM and asked what we wanted to do. Anyone who know http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Seoul/blog-316267.html Sightseeing with LeAnn Erin So Friday the 15th was a national holiday here. We originally planned to go back to Daechon with Lisa Ryan and Amy but financially it did not make sense. We would have had to board the dogs for 150000 won and on top of that pay for hotels and meals etc. They were not going minbak style like last time so there was no way we could afford it. Instead we decided to sightsee in the city with LeAnn. http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Seoul/Itaewon/blog-314889.html School and Summer Camps Erin I have noticed that I talk a lot about what we do here but very little about my work. I guess that is because work is not a fun thing to talk about. I like my job although being a teacher is pretty draining. For the summer I have lucked out and only have to teach until noon. They are holding summer camps at my school which I am actually stuck teaching and planning all of since the other teacher http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Gyeonggi-do/blog-314868.html Doctor Fish and dinner with LeAnn Erin So after a couple nights out with LeAnn she asked if I would take her to Doctor Fish. We all know how much I loved it the first time around so I was more than happy to do so. Jeffry on the other hand does not like it in any way so he opted out. The plan was to meet LeAnn for coffee and Doctor Fish then meet Jeffry near the house for a movie.I met up with LeAnn near the coloured rings to take h http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-314848.html Lotus Theme Park Erin So after Mudfest we were pretty broke and did not really do anything too exciting. We did however get directions from Yumi the other Korean coteacher at my school to go to a Lotus Theme Park. We had never seen lotus flowers so we were pretty excited to go here. She got us directions for taking a cab and we headed out one Saturday afternoon. The drive was pretty nice since we have never really b http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Gyeonggi-do/blog-314818.html My Birthday Erin Hello thereIt has been forever since I updated this. Not so much because I am lazy or disinterested but more because after a long day of work or sightseeing the last thing I feel like doing is writing about it So here goes I will try and update this thing as much as I can today..get as much of it out of the way so we can start fresh again.I last left off at my birthday. I will not be as word http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Seoul/Hongik/blog-314813.html Canada Day Erin Hello again. I promised last time that I would not be so lazy with my posting and I have failed. This time however laziness is not the issue. I have been incredibly busy. Between real life and school I have not had a lot of time to post. I normally would write these in the afternoon at school when I have nothing to do. Lately as many of you know already I have been planning my summer camps l http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-304929.html A Few More Mudfest Pics Here are some pics from Lisa and Ryan.Enjoy http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-302996.html Fun Sun and a Lot of Mud So we finally got down to the beach for a weekend and what a weekend it wasThe weekend before last was the famous amongst foreigners living in Korea at least Boryeong Mud festival. We had been assured that it would be the best weekend of the year and that if we were to miss it we'd be stupid. So we made plans with Lisa Ryan and Amy to head out and stay for the Weekend. This was our first t http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-302974.html Food Porn Just a quick post. Went down to the market and found some produce. Here's some pictures an idea of what it's like cooking here. All these for just under twenty bucks. http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-291416.html Quite Possibly the Strangest Thing I've Done Jeffry Living here in South Korea I've found can feel very much like living back at home. The strangeness that I originally felt and to tell the truth not that deeply soon passed. You get used to being the only white guy around. The language barrier becomes the norm. Hand waving and pantomime becomes easy enough. Just wait until I get home and play late night charades again. I will be the best http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-291382.html Going Away Party So I promised I would update soon and here I am. I think I last left off with bungee jumping. We have been a lot more low key than that this month but I still figure someone reads this so I might as well post. The weekend after the bungee jumping we were invited by some friends of Lisa and Ryan's coincidentally some are from Regina and Carlyle to their going away party. The five girls were al http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-290659.html My Birthday Jeffry So Saturday was my birthday. Twenty nine. I guess I'm old. Ah well I try to take it in stride. I may be almost thirty but I'm on the other side of the world so I guess that's OK.We were invited to share a birthday picnic with some friends but I had kind of set my sights on doing some siteseeing so we declined. So we decided that a good day would be to go to the top of the Seoul Tower a http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Pyeongchon/blog-287871.html Random Photos I have one more to write but I have exhausted my writing for today. Instead I will post some random photos that do not really fit in a blog. They are just neat things that we have seen and thought were picture worthy. They are also the sort of thing my mom is interested in seeing so this one is for you Mom. They are also things that when I see the picture I am reminded how much I really like http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/blog-284930.html Ryan's Birthday or The Best Day Ever Erin On May 31st Lisa had planned a birthday party for Ryan. I had been felling pretty terrible the day before and was actually planning to get up and go to the hospital that morning. Instead we decided to stay up until 3AM watching No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain so I slept past the International Clinics hours. It was okay though. The plague seemed to have subsided and I was feeling the bes http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Gyeonggi-do/Seongnam/Bundang/blog-284912.html Shopping to My Heart's Content or The Day Jeffry Wished Erin Did Not Love Shopping Erin I have discovered how hot it is here. I was told that summer will be hot but I thought I am from the prairies. We have the most extreme weather I can handle it. I was wrong. It is not even hot yet and I find myself sweating to death on a regular basis. For Bikram Yoga my natural ability to sweat like a pig is great. It is cleansing and freeing and amazing. For teaching and riding the subway http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Seoul/blog-284900.html Noraebang in Yongin I have promised a blog for awhile now but as some of you know I have been quite sick. I have had a nasty terrible sinus and chest thing that would not go away. That being said the last thing I felt like doing was thinking and typing. I am feeling a lot better these days so I will attempt to catch up on what we have been up to for the past month. The third weekend Lisa and Ryan invited us to th http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/South-Korea/Yongin/blog-284886.html
