The Gorge...and Colorado
The Gorge...and Colorado
The view of the Gorge from Guadelupe Mountain. Everyone wave to the friendly folks in Colorado...yes the gorge is that long.
No the title of this blog is not about Eli's now very bushy and manly beard which now has to be regularly manscaped, it's about an actual Gorge! Eli has been OBSESSED with the Rio Grande gorge...for good reason, it is a breathtaking sight as I hope is evidenced by the pictures, but his infatuation has gotten a little out of hand. I do realize that the 1993 Missouri State Topographic Map Champion would find nooks and crannies of a geological nature fascinating, but with all the admiration Eli has been expressing for Mother Nature's curves, well I feel a [View Full Entry]

We have been behind in blogging…the relaxation of the vacation has caught up to us and now we are completely and utterly ruined by laziness. Too much spa, too much wine, and definitely too much guacamole and green chiles have beat us into submission, demanding frequent siestas. Many deep sighs have melted us into the New Mexico landscape so completely that we may never be able to be productive or move again. We have had a few exciting moments though. The other morning we awoke at 4:00 AM to get ready for a Hot Air Balloon ride through some breathtaking [View Full Entry]

So, we're not so native
Well, Erin is. Eli's horse was really little. And he is all that is big and manly, in a button down short sleeve shirt. Erin is presently attaching sleeves to all his shirts.
Well after many glorious days in Santa Fe, it's time to get to work on the ol' blog. Since we last posted, we've njoyed the outdoor pursuits of Northern New Mexico. One of the most beautiful high alpine forests we've seen is in Bandolier National Monument, home, some six hundred years ago to the Pueblo Indians. On an historical note, we found huge bear turds with animal hair in them which led to an intense debate about whether, when face to face with a bear, do you yell loudly to scare the bear or play dead in hopes the bear [View Full Entry]

Symbols are cool. Symbols are imagination inspired for the writer, thoughtful movement for the philosopher, love on fire on a stallion rearing before a storm-subdued castle for the romantic novelist, The Highlander in the form of Spanish Sean Connery in front of a storm-subdued castle for the soon-to-be husband of the romantic novelist. Symbols are cool because they fire you up. There is one thing I can always think of and it will bring a small, satisfied smile to my face—not just to the lips and mouth, but my eyes perk up, my eyebrows rise knowingingly, the wardrobe door in [View Full Entry]

Two men on the trail. Two men because Erin opted out of the vulcan death march she had attempted a few years ago. Instead she went into town for tea and writing. Aren't the men cute though!
Well, we are here, snugged into our little Santa Fe adobe abode. We are enjoying the people, guacamole, and our private hot tub...not all together, that would be very messy. Santa Fe is truly a gulp of fresh air and we are breathing in deeply and settling into relaxation mode. Ahhhhhh... Today we took a Salsa making class at the Santa Fe cooking school which was quite excellent (thanks Dad Tate and Mom Waugh) We are now completely overconfident in our culinary capabilities but our roasted tomato salsa was tops in the class, and Erin got to use our chef [View Full Entry]

Moving Out!
Eli and Erin in the moving truck full of all their wordly goods, including that damn giant Guinness hat that Eli just "has to keep".
In Texas freedom tastes like beer and tonight we are drinking up! We left Little Rock this morning and it finally feels like we have left the Air Force behind. We are taking the best of Little Rock with us...our wonderful friends and of course our new son Cletus. He has Eli's eyes. We are on our way to Santa Fe and after that, well, we don't even really know. We wanted to document our travels and let you know where in the world we are and what we're up to and how Eli's beard is coming in. We promise [View Full Entry]

YES! That was the salutation, top-center, upon opening my college acceptance letter 15 years ago. A pretty happy moment. In fact I was ecstatic. YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is more the way I am feeling as Erin, Cleetus (and Lola-Belle in spirit) and I close up shop in Little Rock. House sold, all goods in storage indefinitely except for a week’s worth of clothes, some good whiskey, and the $9 tin of Old Bay’s, we said good-bye to President Clinton Ave, our close friends, and ten years in the Air Force. Our destination? to wander for [View Full Entry]
