This blog will be brief, I just have a lot of pictures and videos I took this past week of my kids, and I wanted to show them. Thursday we went to an Arboretum, where the kids walked around, learned nothing, and hoped to see a snake. But I did get some cute pictures and videos. Today (Friday) we had the monthly singing performance, so I have some videos of my class as well as some others. Enjoy :) [View Full Entry]

This past Saturday Daniel and I went to Insadong and met up with some friends to do some shopping. Along the way we stopped at the coolest tea shop ever. It was upstairs in a back alley, and really small! When you walked in the door you had to maneuver yourself around pillows, small tables and half walls. Anyone without good balance, in a wheelchair, or slightly overweight would be unable to come here. We sat at a little round table in the back and were given little tea menus. I ordered cold Pear Tea, Dan got cold Citrus Tea, and [View Full Entry]

This weekend I had one of the best times since I have been in country, despite Dan still being away. (Only one more week, woo hoo!) I had a three day weekend because it was Korea's Memorial Day, so no work on Friday. I more or less wasted the day away sleeping, snacking, reading, and beginning a now full-blown addiction to Grey's Anatomy. (I swear I have never seen an episode before, but now I watch all sorts of full season TV shows online- www.watchtvsitcoms.com) Friday night I went to dinner with Kelly and Patricia. We took the train to Uijungbu, [View Full Entry]

It's been forever since I've posted so I thought I'd sit down and write something. Daniel has been gone since last Sunday to work the range. He will be gone for another 2-3 weeks. I have filled my weekend time with going to the pool, walking around Dongducheon, and going to dinner with friends. On Friday we had a company dinner since two teachers are leaving in the next few days. We went to a restaurant where you cook your own food, but what was ordered for us looked like pork and it was 50% fat. As much as I love [View Full Entry]

Hi All! Unlike my last blog entry I have quite a bit to report. Dan and I flew to Tokyo this past weekend since I had a three day (Monday was Children's Day, which rings funny in my head, because as I child I would ask my parents, "If there is Mother's Day and Father's Day, how comes there's no kid's day?" and my Mother would quickly reply, "Because every day is kid's day.") Friday night we headed an hour south to Itaewon to hang out with a couple we know, then stayed in a hotel there so as to be [View Full Entry]

Hey All! This will be a short blog, I really don't have too much to report. I have been really sick with a lovely combination of flu and chest cold. The flu kept me from work twice last week, and the chest cold loves to keep me up at night coughing. I was told the Yellow Dust (that comes in the wind from China) was to be ending shortly. Apparently, this person was mistaken, and it is just beginning. It will last about two months, and there are days when looking at the mountains it appears as if they are shrouded [View Full Entry]

Last Sunday Daniel and I took a train to the Changdeokgung Palace (about 100 mins.) which was the home of King Taejong of the Joseon Dynasty. It was built in 1405 and was destroyed by the Japanese during the Imjin Invasion (1592-1598). Unlike the neighboring palace of Gyeongbokgung which was constructed on flat land and had a perfectly North and South axis layout, the Changdeokgung was built in the mountainside and thus the design considered the geographical landscape and looked more natural. The Palace does not allow people to wander the grounds anymore, for they found that the traffic was [View Full Entry]

As I write this blog, Dan is sleeping next to me, which means that he is (yay!) home from being away for two weeks. While I hate that he was gone for so long, I’m proud of myself for my attitude about the whole situation. I’d like to think I’m not one of those women who falls apart when their husband can’t be home with them every night. And given my unique circumstances being that I am so far from home, I am really happy that these two weeks seemed to fly by, and since I kept myself busy with working [View Full Entry]

I started off this blog with this "lovely" (ha) quote to show you how funny some of the slogans/quotes/advertisements I see here are. This particular sentence is written all over the mat my students sit on during story time. During Daniel's introduction classes with the Army regarding Korean culture he was presented with a gift from the Korean government. It is a set of tea spoons with masks that were created for the Yangju byeolsandae nori; a Mask Dance which is a drama that depicts the joys and sorrows of common people and social concerns. "The drama unfolds as various people [View Full Entry]

March 24, 2008 Hey everyone! I have decided to start titling my blogs with funny little quotes that I hear. I find them to be much more entertaining than "Our Easter Weekend" which was in itself not that interesting. Hope you all had a beautiful Easter. Here it was cold and rainy, and didn’t feel at all like Easter. It was early this year, and without the barrage of commercials on TV and decorations on neighbor’s lawns, it just came and went without too much thought. We did go to church, though. There is a little church a couple blocks away, [View Full Entry]
