| 16th July 2009 Anactoria | - From: "What a sweet and fun love story!" Yuck! That Yellow Dust (Asian Dust: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Dust) sounds downright nasty! I guess that's why the locals sometimes wear face masks...? I'd be curious as to whether you guys have gotten into that habit, too? I think it would take some getting used to to don a mask to wear everywhere... |
| 16th July 2009 Anactoria | Thanks! :-) - From: Our Korean Adventure I'm planning on moving to SK in the autumn, so I'm looking forward to reading more of your blog! You have a very nice writing style. Thanks for posting! ~ Anactoria http://anactoria.blogspot.com |

| 11th July 2009 Janet Moorhouse | pics - From: Great Wall, Summer Palace, Marble Boat and Wangfujing Street Great pics as always Erin. Think I would starve to death in China, the idea of eating sheeps testicles UGH! Ron would have a try of everything though! Take care & keep 'em coming. |

| 9th July 2009 the kemps | vietnam - From: Kyoto: Take Two! Thanks for your lovely email and your kind words. We have had an absolute blast in vietnam, having spent about 5 months in s/e asia now it is a very refreshing change! If you have 4/5 days i would fly into saigon as it is an absolute must (It just pulsates with life - it's awesome!) then fly or get the night train to nha trang where you could pick up with the easy riders and spend a few days with them either on bikes or in a car. They can either take you back to nha trang where you can fly back to saigon or to danang where for about $25 you can fly onto hanoi. We weren't so sure at first spending so long with the easy riders as we like doing stuff ourselves but we saw things we would never have seen otherwise and it really was the highlight of our time in vietnam! I think they are making a website so when it is up and running i will drop you the link and you can have a look for yourself. If you need any more info just give me a shout, more than happy to share our opinions and advice. Take care and happy travels Abi |
| 3rd June 2009 Jenna | Christmas - From: Christmas Season in Korea Hey, this may seem like a stupid question to you but I was just wondering how long schools get off for christmas? |
| 17th March 2009 Mom | - From: Flyin' Solo in Kyoto I know your decision was a hard one, but sometimes you have to make changes that will better your life and future. Money isn't everything, but one needs to be realistic, too. I'm SO glad you made the decision to travel instead of coming home. We're always here for you, but chances like this don't always come along. Dad and I are so proud of you! |

| 3rd January 2009 Mom | - From: And.... We're off! To Shanghai! What a great time you've had, and it is so neat to see you in the places we visited 1 1/2 years ago! I loved the Yu Gardens (a UNESCO site), and the Shanghai Museum was a TRUE museum - not the large gift shops the Chinese like to call "museums", after you view a ten minute film on jade or pearls or tea. I don't understand why the Chinese don't have someone translate their "English" signs properly, but they are hilarious to read, since they make absolutely no sense! |
| 3rd January 2009 NYCkid | students - From: And.... We're off! To Shanghai! Ignore those students who ask you to see their exhibitions. They are scams. You could have been ripped off. |

| 1st June 2008 kathy schilling | Such beautiful children (and cute teacher!) - From: "Baby, One More Time" Erin, I so love your blogs. I was with your mom and Kathy T. for the Thornton wedding - lots of fun and your mother is the ultimate tour guide! Your children are just so beautiful! Reminds me every time of my Chris when he was that age. So cute! Ask someone about the significance of the first birthday! We went through the whole preparation of a "proper" first Korean birthday, complete with the traditional birthday outfit and the array of food/gifts placed before the child which when chosen by the child, has some influence on their growth and path in life. Our Chris chose NOTHING and cried and cried in the uncomfortable ornate outfit! Keep those blogs coming! They are so very enjoyable to read! |
| 1st June 2008 Mom | - From: "Baby, One More Time" Hi, Sweetie, We're in Portsmouth NH for the wedding and Kathy T (who doesn't have a computer) got to see your blog for the first time. She really enjoyed it. Glad you're getting out while Daniel is gone. Your kids are adorable, but wish everyone could see them like Dad and I did - in a live video feed. They're the cutest! Your pictures are fantastic. Keep them coming! |

| 15th April 2008 Susan | arm chair traveler - From: Seoul Survivor Erin, Very well written, informative and entertaining post. I look forward to reading more of your writing. Susan Next door neighbor to Inmans |
| 15th April 2008 megan | Hey - From: Seoul Survivor I am glad to see that you had a relaxing time with Dan and that you laughed so hard you teared up. Good times. I love that it seems like all you do is work and tour your surroundings. You are learning so much and embracing your time away! |
| 14th April 2008 Korean middle school student | - From: Seoul Survivor Koreans speak Korean language that is linguistically unrelated to the Chinese counterpart. It's the Chinese writing system that was used until the invention of Hangul. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangul Before (or even some time after) that, the Chinese writing system was used like Latin in Korea. (It was mostly used by the ruling class.) The only difference is that now the Romans are safely gone, while the Chinese certainly aren't. |
| 13th April 2008 mom | Korean Architecture - From: Seoul Survivor The closeness to China might explain the similarities in architecture. All the old buildings we saw in China last year looked like these - the throne rooms, as well. Some of the stairways were higher - the royal family would be "carried" up the steps over the ornate carving of stone below them (usually the phoenix and the dragon representing the male and female), while their servants used the steps along the sides. I'm so thrilled your using your spare time to learn about the culture you're part of this year - but, I knew you'd never be one to sit home! |
| 13th April 2008 Tom | Chinesee - From: Seoul Survivor So do Koreans know chinesee since it use to be their official language? |
| 6th April 2008 anonymous | Fun Fun - From: My Dance Dance (R)evolution You sound like you're really enjoying your time there. You're doing a lot more sight-seeing than I am right now. I'll get there, haha. I'm so glad Dan's back home with you, but I wouldn't expect anything less than independence and strength from you without him, that's just who you are....Great for you Love! Thanks for that last comment on my blog, I'm hoping they just get better from here on out. I took some pics of my kids I'll be posting this week. And God willing, I'm going sight-seeing Saturday and taking lots of scenery pics. I love and miss ya, keep up the aweseom work! |
| 31st March 2008 Jan | "Curioser and curioser" - From: "She cooks like a black woman!" Erin, first the break-dancing and the "lady in pink" out-doing you in shots on St. Patrick's Day, the appearance of a stuffed Guinness in Korea, and now, a very strange view of the women's bathroom. What is up with that? BTW, let me know what school supplies you need, or tell your mom, so I can send a box out to you. Jan |

| 19th March 2008 Mom | That's my girl! - From: A "Juicy" Update That's what getting out into the world is all about - exploring, learning, trying new things, accepting the cultures as they are, and turning mistakes into adventures. Dad and I couldn't be prouder of you both. |

| 15th March 2008 Jennefer | Wow,,, - From: A Looong Week Those poor little babies. They want their children to work hard and have good lives I suppose but they are going a bit too far. Each culture has very drastic differences in practices. The United States seems pretty laizze faire when it comes to most things. I really love reading your blogs Erin!! I hope all is well with you and Dan. Take advantage of being there and love every minute! Miss you! <3 |

I know what you mean about feeling like you're camping not "home". Although my experience feeling that way was not from being in a foreign country so I'm sure you're feeling it even more intensely. |
