Touring Vietnam

Asia » Vietnam » Southeast » Ho Chi Minh City
The last four days have been spent touring Vietnam on a series of buses and boats. We crossed over the Cambodian/Vietnamese border on the "slow boat". We stopped at a little village to get our visas and the second we hit Vietnam we were greeted with amazing hospitality. One girl ran up to me jumped on my back, and then she procceeded to give me a massage and braid and put flowers in my hair. (I think she was actually just using me as an excuse because she really seemed to have a thing for Matt but I didn't complain.) After [View Full Entry]

Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh

Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
The last few days have being completely packed with sight seeing and new experiences. We spent 3 days in Siem Reap where we explored Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is definately worth the $40.00 to get in. The buildings are beautifully sculpured and tourists are free to climb on anything they see (at your own risk....it can be pretty sketchy at times). My favorite part of Angkor Wat was the monastery that is amongst the ruins. There are hundreds and hundreds of monks in tents. They are about as curious to see you as you are to see them and they are [View Full Entry]

Our second day in Bangkok was as adventurous as the first. We started of the day by going to what some claim to be as the world's largest market. Apparently in this market there are 15 000 vendors and at least 200 000 buyers! It is amazing what a person can buy in a market in Asia... we saw underwear racks, crickets, turtles, squirrels and about everything else you can possibly imagine. After that we took the sky train down to Siam Square the Times Square of Bangkok, where we saw Thai fighting dance competition (yes it's exactly what it sounds [View Full Entry]

First Stop Bangkok

 Asia » Thailand » Central » Bangkok
We have finally made it to Asia!! After 14 hrs from Seattle to Taiwan and another 3 1/2 hrs to Bankok, 2 sketchy meals and 3 mediocre movies, we arrived to the unimaginable city of Bangkok! The second we got off the plane we could already feel the differences from windy Lethbridge and rainy Seattle, when we were met with amazing amounts of humidity, smog, and the chatter of Thai around us. Our first goal was to get to downtown Bangkok where we could locate our guest house so we caught the local train for about 10 baht (30 cents Canadian!) [View Full Entry]
