The start of another working week, or so we thought. However... I got fired from my job at Pamcat! Well, my assignment was terminated anyway on the Tuesday and I don't really feel too much at fault. As I said in the last blog, I had slowed my pace at work and was just doing my follow up calls each day having not received any further instruction. Because there weren't too many to do each day, I casually surfed the net to kill time, although I was still making it all the way through my load. However, half an hour before [View Full Entry]

After the skydiving thrill, it was back to the 9-5 slog on the Monday, although I was starting my new job at a company called Pamcat. After being given the wrong address, I found myself wandering around Bondi Junction looking foolish, until I stumbled upon people who worked in the office itself, which was pretty lucky. I was shown my new working digs, which had no windows and about 6 members of staff. Presuming that I had debt collection experience, they gave me a 3 page list of all their debtors and told to get on with it. More on the [View Full Entry]

I see the moon

Well, it wasn't quite terror, but the nerves do jangle when you look out the plane door and see the clouds a great distance below. You are literally hurtling towards your messy death until that cord is pulled, releasing your lifeline. Something wrong with the cord? It means people will be talking about you in the past tense. It's also pretty chilly up there. The actual jump itself was an absolute rush though. We booked the jump on the Saturday to go on Sunday morning (today) first thing which turned out to be a 5:30am rise. Thanks to Karen, we had [View Full Entry]

After a hard weeks work we were ready for another weekend break!! This time it was a long weekend due to the public holiday for Australia Day. We had heard mixed opinions from locals about Australia Day but we decided to join in the festivities and have a wander through the city to see what was on offer. We headed to Hyde park where there was a large selection of vintage cars on display, some of which were for sale but way out of our price range!! The park itself had a number of food stalls offering a wide range of [View Full Entry]

Gary at Hyde Park

Sorry, it's been a fair while since our last entry. That would indicate that we have done so much and not had time to even think about the blog, but sadly, it's the opposite. As mentioned in a previous blog, Emma had managed to have a job to start on the 3rd of January whereas my recruitment agencies had told me there wasn't much available but would contact me in the New Year. Unsurprisingly, they never did, with my attempts to contact them getting nowhere. Since the New Year, Emma has started her new job and is quite enjoying it. As [View Full Entry]

During the week between Christmas and New Year, we decided to have some relaxation time, although we still managed to get a few things done. On Boxing Day, we headed into town and hit the cinema to see the film P.S. I Love You, a chick flick title if ever I had heard one. It was more of a film for Emma, having been a fan of the book on which it was based. It wasn't really my type of film but I thought Gerard Butler's attempt at an Irish accent was pretty funny. Emma really enjoyed it. Afterwards, we decided [View Full Entry]

Before the extravaganza of Christmas, Emma's birthday is nicely nestled on the 20th, which caused me a headache in terms of gift choices. Although we'd obviously agreed presents would take a back seat this year, it felt appropriate to still give things with some degree of thought. As a result, I found myself rushing about in the days leading up looking for something suitable, which ultimately turned out to be extremely thoughtful DVDs (everybody loves a DVD!!) and some perfume/skin/nails stuff. I hope she liked it as much as she said she did anyway. Unfortunately, the day itself wasn't t [View Full Entry]

Gary outside the Opera House

After a disastorous start to Sydney, we awoke refreshed and without any bites thankfully (so it looked like the bed bugs hadn't hitched a ride), and looking forward to a day of sightseeing. Despite the lack of accommodation after the 19th of December being at the back of our minds (we booked in with our new hostel until then), we were desperate to actually see some of the famous sights of Sydney!! We headed off down George street, armed with my new camera desperate to catch a glimpse of the Sydney harbour bridge and the Opera house. It was a lovely [View Full Entry]

"Night night, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite!" Finally, some relevance to that. Our flight to Sydney was during the night, so knowing that we wouldn't get much sleep on the plane, we decided to get ourselves organised and book our accommodation in advance at Boomerang Backpackers, a leaflet for which we had found in our Perth hostel. We thought that we would treat ourselves and get a couple of goods night sleep away from the dorms and book our own private room... As soon as we got off the plane Gary realised that his phone was missing. [View Full Entry]

Night Out

Perth is a pretty isolated place being in Western Australia, seperated from (most of) the rest of Aussie by miles (or kilometres over here) of barren outback. Although it houses most of the population of Western Australia, it is still a pretty quiet place and is nice and chilled out. Quite refreshing for a city visit anyway. We left Mandurah early afternoon and bade our farewell to Rita and Robert whilst thanking them for the great hospitality they provided. Our 70 odd km journey was to be by bus and it passed by very quickly and we soon found ourselves standing [View Full Entry]
