Hi all, Back "home" in Brisbane after 3 fab days on The Clipper sailing the Whitsundays and 3 not so fab days driving Louis the 2,000ks home. Unfortunately the weather during our sail wasn't terrific, monsoon is the word the springs to mind, but we had lots of fun anyway. The spirit of travelling to the far side of the world and tasting so many different cultures was quashed by the fact that over three-quarters of our boat was Irish...there were more accents from Cork, Dublin and Kilkenny than there were foreign but at least that meant the boat was good for a bit of craic. The trip was birilliant, the food was fantastic (always an important factor where Im concerned), the crew were great, the island, White Haven Beach, that we visited was amazing and ... read more

Well after all my talk I finally did it, took the plunge and broke away from the group, its just me and my jalopy, Louis, for the next couple of weeks and I'm loving it! Have just arrived in Airlie Beach, about 1,500kms from where I left the others and am all excited about boarding The Clipper to cruise the Whitsundays in the morning. I'm not long back from a three day tour of the fantastic Fraiser Island, the world's largest sand island....think the desert island out of Lost. I spent three very sunny days there traveling as part of a very multi cultured group of 10...3 South American girls, 1 Brazilian, 3 German guys, a Frenchie and an Isralie (we were a very multicultural group) in a safari style 4x4 up the island taking in ... read more

Hi all, Well since my last entry we’ve come up in the world, no longer live in a tent in a trailer park and have in fact signed binding contract and accepted the keys to our brand spanking new, absolutely fabulous apartment in Brisbane . Unlike in a tent we can stand up straight, unlike at a hostel we have our own bathrooms….note the ‘s’….and most importantly we have this thing called a television and we even have a DVD player courtesy of Aldi (where the cashiers now know our names). Weather’s picked up…still hoping my tan will improve before I head home. Am I mad considering giving all this up and heading back to dreary Ireland , boring Brittas and the monotony of The Lakes I hear Mo ask well yup probably but that’s the ... read more

Ringing In The New Year

Happy new year everyone! We've just arrived in Brisbane after detouring to Surfers Paradise where we rang in the new year. We stayed in a lovely campsite just outside the town which was a great spot, very commercial and touristy quite like your Majorca's of the world but it had real character and most importantly a fantastic beach. One of the nicest things we did there was go to the beach cinema. This was a great publicity stunt or community sponsorship programme as us PRs would call it, by Optus one of the two leading Aussie telephone companies. In a move to create brand awarness and improve their image they erected a huge cincema screen on the beach right in the centre of town and played a different family film every night for a week in ... read more

Hi there everyone! Hope you're all enjoying the festive season! Since my last entry I've arrived in Sydney, left Sydney, started two jobs, quit two jobs, lived on Helen's floor for a week, stayed in various dodgy hostels, invested in Louis our belived little van that's older than I am and headed up the east coast of Australia for a very unorthodox Christmas spent camping just outside Byron Bay. Homeless in Sydney? We arrived in Sydney almosy three weeks ago now where Fran's sister Helen was good enough to put us up (and put up with us) for a week. Her apartment is fab and it was pure luxury compared to what we were used to. Her washing machine, dryer, television and couch were in constant use for the week that we spent on her living ... read more

Well hello there, long time no blog! We're just getting ready to leave Fiji after almost 2 weeks of bliss. We arrived here about 12 days ago to be greeted by Fijians serenading us and bringing us coral necklaces, a lovely way to start a really lovely holiday! A hot and bothered night in Nadi with plenty of cockroaches, mostiquitos and lizards wasn't the nicest start but things sure picked up! Nambua Lodge, Nacula Nacula, one of the most Northern islands in Fiji's Yasawa's became our home for 7 nights, being so north meant we were very near the equator and lets just say after day 1 it was clear that factor 45 wasn't enough to protect my Irish skin! With the nearest town a four and a half hour ferry ride away and only 2 ... read more

After much debate and plenty of budgeting and estimates we arrived back in Auckland by plane the day before yesterday and are now preparing for the holiday bit of our travels....our 2 weeks in Fijian sunshine! We spent our second last night on the South island in Omaru spotting penguines! There were rakes of them all coming ashore and waddling up beside us and they were only tiny and sooo cute. That night I went out to the car for my purse and spotted two crossing the car park...they scurried in under the car once they saw me, it was so sweet! They are literally everywhere at night, its sooo cool. Christchurch (although we didn't get to spend much time there) was nice...bigger than excpected - a lot bigger than Wellington although nothing over here compares ... read more

Just getting ready to leave Queenstown! We've been here a few days now and we've been having so much fun. The drive down from Franz Josef was amazing, its just so scenic over here and Queenstown itself is gorgous (its set on this amazing clear blue lake surrounded by snow capped mountains) but despite the amazing views the best part of the journey down was our stop off at Puzzel World where they had the coolest anti-gravity room where you kept nearly falling and a big 3D maze that took about an hour to complete. We've been going out quite a lot here coz its the liveliest place we've been in ages. On Fri we left the two lads at home and had a big girlie night out. One of the night clubs had a drinks ... read more

We hiked Franz Josef glacier yesterday. It was amazing. The heavy rainfall from the day before meant that the track to the actual glacier was washed away so we had a longer than usual and far tougher than usual hike through teh rain forest to content with before we even arrived at the foothill of the galcial mountain. Equiped with funky ice grip shoes and plenty of layers we set about tackling the glacier and wow was it col! From the bottom of the valley it doesn't look THAT impressive but once you get up a bit of the way and see the huge iciles and massive crascks between them and just how far back and high up they go...its just breathtaking! Surrounded by ice, blue in parts, pure enough to drink (which we did!), we ... read more

Me again! Just arrived at Franz Joseph where some of the worlds most spectacular glaciers lie. We had a tour booked for this morning but unfortunately the weather was too bad to hike the glaciers. It's rainy really badly here and has been since last night but that didn't stop us doing up a big tasty BBQ last night! After our few days in Nelson we travelled down to some place beginning with P that I can't pronounce and daren't try spell. The drive down was amazing, it was windy coastal roads most of the way but it was really spectacular, you could be at the top of a mountain one minuet and driving through rain forests the next, we even got to stop and go seal spotting at a colony along the way. Anyway we ... read more
