Bolivia, a country we have heard so much hype about on our travels definitely lived up to expectation! We heeded the warnings about drunk drivers and false promises by tour agencies and did a bit of research into the tour company for the salt flats and this definitely paid off - we came back alive...which is more than we can say about a couple of groups over the last few months (see the lonely planet or trip advisor for the full stories!!!) The photos show some of the highlights, but lets just say that the landscape on the salt flats was [View Full Entry]

Well after bidding farewell to Sean & Zoz we jumped the 17hr overnight bus to Puerto Iguazu to experience the infamous Iguazu falls which border Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay... before I start I just have to say "wow" about the fully reclining seats, full service including champagne on the bus... what a way to travel... we both sat there (no actually lay down) thinking this is as close to first class we are ever going to get... unfortunately we haven't found it again since but remain hopeful for the rest of our Argentine bus journeys... Anyway I digress... The Iguaza Falls... [View Full Entry]

4.10.08 It´s been a while since we updated so apologies up front, if you get bombarded with a few blogs in a row!! After leaving Arequipa we headed off for the start of the much anticipated Inca Trail, which we´ve been looking forward to as the the real highlight of this journey and boy was it spectacular! We were very lucky indeed to have a group of 16 people who all knew how to have some fun as well as appreciate the truly amazing backdrop to this trek - almost all American and to our surprise we were the only Aussies??? Argentina..... Renounce your vegetarianism now! Let me tell you, there is no looking back! Who would have thought the day might come where I would leave the salad on the plate, as there is no room after the 600gm steak! Two months ago I would have thought this meant the Apocalypse was here and Armaggedon was upon us...but there are no sounds of horses hooves, just the sizzling from the parilla! Buenos Aires was the perfect place to meet up with our good friends Sean and Zoz, who better to wine and dine with? We were staying in a chic hotel [View Full Entry]

Jericoacoara "Jeri" - As we switched from the bus to 4WD and headed into the sand dunes towards Jeri, Frank looked around and commented "this must be the most remote I have ever been..." and it certainly did feel like that, knowing that the little town was surrounded by sand on all sides! Jeri is a hippi town and a destination for windsurfers or kitesurfers and not the idyllic swimming and sun bathing beaches we had hoped for. Given we only had a few days it wasnt really long enough to have lessons in either, so we took advantage of the [View Full Entry]

We are in Peru now, getting geared up for the Machu Picchu trek, but before that we thought we'd put some training time in by going down the Colca Canyon via a quick pit stop to see the Nazca Lines. Nazca, the town itself doesn´t have a lot going for it but the Nazca lines drawn in desert by the Nazca people a ouple of thousand years ago remain a draw card. The best way to see these ancient drawing of animals is from the air so up we went. This has to be the smallest plane I have ever been [View Full Entry]

The Amazon Well it is safe to say that coming from London not that long ago, we had forgotten what humidity is like. The Amazon is about 80% humidity and we were soaked in sweat just sitting still!!! I guess this could be considered a warm up for our return to Sydney! The trip into the Amazon really was something special. The eco systems are so interesting and the scenery like nothing else. The Amazonian people still live along the river banks in huts and travel around the various rivers by boat. These days they wear western clothes and in some [View Full Entry]

Brazil - Part 1 South America » Brazil
Well finally we have got round to setting this blog up! Feels like a long time ago since we left London and promised to update all with news of our travels...sorry for the delay, there have been a few technical hitches (like getting our photos burnt onto DVD and finding out that they only have CD readers in the internet cafe - sorry no photos of the first few destinations!!!) In the last (almost) 3 weeks we seem to have covered a lot of distance yet still not gone very far! Brazil is enormous and it took us more than 2 [View Full Entry]
