Travel Blog Posts

Gosh we have been back from Africa for almost 2 weeks now. It was not a smooth transition, it is exhausting to travel across the world, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I sort of dropped off the earth here with my entries. Those few blogs earlier were only 2-3-days into the trip. Since then there was so much left out, that maybe I can reminisce now. It's funny, I thought when I did shark diving it would be the last risky thing I would volunteer to do, but I came very close to the bungee jump in Zambia. I keep thinking that if we were there one more day I would have done it (the jump is between the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe over a bridge, viewing the falls, and ... read more

The past several days have been unbelievable. The last time we blogged was I believe right before we were about to go shark diving, with great whites the following morning. So I can see how we left everyone reading in such suspense! We did survive (thanks Jess, for concern!) That is a whole adventure to the trip that I will do a separate blog- it will be very detailed, because Oh My God- we were close. Just a little detail for now, it was exciting, adrenaline pumping, and the first time on the water in Africa, to an area in Walker Bay, called ‘shark alley’. Need I say more? Right now we are at the airport in Johannesburg, to go on safari again! Forgot to mention that all those days we didn’t blog, they will ... read more

Today a day in the life of Tommy and Eileen woke up, this morning at Whale song lodge to go Shark diving. We were booked through our Inn, and arrived at the diving site around 8:00am. We were with people from Australia (Tanzania) and Africa to name a few. Once we took off on our 42 ft shark cage fishing boat called Barracuda, we realized it was a little shadier operation than we anticipated. I don’t discourage anyone from ever trying this experience but, I guess the regulations are very different for tourism/boating in Africa. Anyway, we were barely given instruction except to put on this wet suit, and me, Tommy and 3 others were instructed to jump into the ocean, in a cage that was submerged into the ocean. The cage had to be like ... read more

Yes it is true. First, today we drove to a small village out of Cape Town it took us about 2 1/2 hours. We were really beginning to like Cape town, but there are so many other areas and territory we are covering in South Africa. Our drive was once again, no memorable, we took tons of pics, and little movies. When we got to our small guest house, on cliff st. you can only imagine how set into cliffs, and so beautiful our surroundings are! This place is called whale song lodge, and the reason is because every year the whales ( all different species) make the journey away from Antarctica’s cold water to these warmer waters to mate, from May till Sept. The people here are so used to this that I swear, they ... read more

Today Tommy and I took an all day coastal drive along the peninsula all the way to the cape of good hope. Tommy had a blast driving like he was racing and these twists and turns were all along the cliffs, and severe sharp turns. The views were breathtaking, so we stopped just about every few miles. One view was literally more beautiful then the next, until we got closer to the National Park where the cape point is. Before we reached the park, we stopped in at an ostrich farm.. I insisted since now I think Ostrich is amazing, I had it for dinner last night! It is so lean! So then we reached the park which signs warned us as we entered about not feeding the baboons, and to be aware of the ... read more
