| 6th September 2007 Edam | Found It! - From: Neither here nor there! I think we stayed in Viet Thanh Resort. It was really basic but peaceful and really cheap. There was a cute little restaurant just along the beach where we ate tuna steaks and watch the sun go down. |
| 3rd September 2007 TravellingTandem | Great advice! - From: Neither here nor there! Hi guys, my girlfriend and I are heading off to Vietnam in Nov and have been seriously considering Phu Quoc. I think you've sold it to us! Thanks for the great blog. Can you give us any tips on where to stay on the island? |

| 12th April 2007 Kim, T.S. | Simple But Attractive - From: Getting Outta the Dirty Auld Town My best friend's tekking in Hymalaya, Nepal. I'm feeling envious his tour and yours in Ireland, which is highly calm and simple, I think. Enjoy your trip. Good luck. from Korea. |

| 23rd January 2007 Waltzing Matilda | Welcome home - From: Four Seasons In One Day Welcome back home, and may the truth of your TS Eliot quote ring true. We came home to Washington State less than two months ago from a year of wandering -- and are experiencing a bit of culture shock ourselves. Have enjoyed being occasional readers of your blog. Cheers! |

| 29th December 2006 Edam | Comments from Filipinos - From: The Rice and The Paddies It was fantastic to blog on the Philippines and receive comments and tips from so many Filipino people. It really shows how much they love their country and also how they get out there to see it. The thing we loved most about the people of the Philippines is their fantastic sense of humour, maybe its because everyone speaks English, but you never go far before someone says something which makes you smile and laugh. Great attitude to life! |
| 29th December 2006 Edam | Bye Bye to The Philippines - From: The Rice and The Paddies Hi Marco, Thanks for your comment. I am sorry to say we are back in Singapore now, so no more updates from The Philippines. However we hope we have inspired a few more people to add a trip to their SE Asia itineries, and hopefully you will be able to follow some other peoples wanderings soon. Happy New Year EdAm |
| 29th December 2006 Marco | Great Blog! - From: The Rice and The Paddies Just want to say thank you for your entertaining blog. It's great to know that you guys enjoyed your trip to my country. I miss it terribly! Keep on blogging! |
| 23rd December 2006 MaggyPaggy | So true! - From: La Isla Bonita I definitely agree with you that the government needs to boost tourism so much more. The Philippines has much to offer tourists, but to this day, the country is not as visited as other SE Asian countries. Why is that? I'm so happy to see you enjoyed my family's motherland! Especially during Christmas. Christmas there is so much more festive than anything I've seen in the States. Enjoy the rest of your stay. And happy travels! |
| 23rd December 2006 Edam | A Filipino Xmas - From: La Isla Bonita Hi Marl, Unfortunately our time here is coming to a close. We have loved being in the Philippines, definately our favourite country out of those we visited in South East Asia. I think the government need to get working on a marketing plan, as the country has so much to offer tourists on all budgets and of all ages. Merry Christmas and thanks for your comment. |
| 23rd December 2006 marl | - From: La Isla Bonita i'm from the philippines but working here in singapore. i enjoy reading your blog about the country. can't wait to read the next one. cheers and merry xmas :) |
| 21st December 2006 mikel | gr8! - From: La Isla Bonita i luv boracay. good to hear u had a good time there. it is paradise. nice people, inexpensive, good food and the white sand! |
| 14th December 2006 Edam | August Visit - From: The Rice and The Paddies You will love it. We have met some fantastic people here. Nearly everyone we have come across speaks excellent English so no problems there. It's the South East Asian country where we have had most interaction with the locals. They are really keen to learn about you and to talk about their lives. Its kinda nice walking down the street and constantly hearing Hey Joe or Hey Man! It is such a beautiful country with so much to do and see. |
| 11th December 2006 JoAnn Peach | Wow! - From: The Rice and The Paddies Love the entries and especially the photos. I can't wait to get to the Philippines in August! How did the locals treat you tourists? (I'm 1/2 Filipino, but don't speak the language...and will be coming with my European fiance...this should be interesting...) |
| 9th December 2006 Edam | Not so bad - From: The Rice and The Paddies You'll love it. Actually its not too bad, in the daytime its low 20s and at night not lower than 15 degrees I would say. It really depends on what you are used to, but the bus is artic! We did not exagerate on that one. Enjoy! EdAm |
| 8th December 2006 antoniele | - From: The Rice and The Paddies i'm going to banawe and sagada for the last week of december... how cold is it now? i'm pretty darn excited! |
| 5th December 2006 moondreamer | bravo - From: Cooking up a Storm Enjoyed reading your adventure. We will be traveling to the PI in January and look forward to some R&R with some excitement mixed in. good luck. salamat |
| 4th December 2006 VictorT | Awesome - From: Joe Versus the Volcano You make me wish I still was in the Philippines! What a lovely country to travel in. To answer your question under the previous blog: Baguio isn't too interesting, but Sagada, Banaue and Batad (it's worth the hike!) are all really cool. Bontoc is also a lovely small town (albeit there's not much to do). I haven't been to, but Kabayan's mummies are supposed to be amazing. Just make sure you plan that part well for transport as you might end up wasting a day because of transport (as happened to me) Good luck and keep the blogs coming! V |
| 4th December 2006 Edam | Up North - From: Cooking up a Storm Hey, we hope to head for Baguio tomorrow (we needed a break from the waves!) and then further north from there. Have you been to Vigan? Is it worth the trip? Thanks EdAm. |
| 4th December 2006 Edam | Small La Laguna - From: Cooking up a Storm The snorkeling was fantastic! As it was my first time I have nothing to compare it to but Ed has been to the Great Barrier Reef and said it was better in Mindoro. I think tourism has probably increased alot since you were there but its still very much a local community unlike many of the touristy islands in other parts of SE Asia. |
| 4th December 2006 Edam | Brekkie - From: Your breakfast will be served in the bathroom Thanks for the tips Kenn. We will definately check them out on our next visit. EdAm |
| 4th December 2006 anonymous | What an adventure ! - From: Cooking up a Storm Stereotypes are broken once you connect and get to know more about the people and their culture. Enjoy the rest of your trip ! :> |
| 4th December 2006 Mandy | Small La Laguna - From: Cooking up a Storm We visited Small La Laguna many years ago (10?). We still have fond memories of it, and the best snorkeling we've ever done! Including Great Barrier and Belize. Maybe we went to the wrong places in Aus. and Belize, but this area was just so untouched at the time and the coral and fish-life stunning. We also have fond memories of dinners at the "Full Moon Cafe" looking out over the ocean, and the cook bringing our fish right out the sea.... is it still as wonderful? |
| 2nd December 2006 barefootcontessa | Hi! - From: Cooking up a Storm Glad you made it out okay of Puerto Galera. I know how scary it can be sometimes riding a barely breathing outrigger with big waves attacking you. Been there, done that. Anyway, hope you enjoy the northern part of the Philippines! If the weather permits and the roads are good, try going to Sagada where you will be able to see hanging coffins and good caves to go spelunking, Banuae also, where the Rice Terraces are. |
| 30th November 2006 kenn | Your Breakfast - From: Your breakfast will be served in the bathroom Hi, Glad you had a good time in Singapore and your entry is really fun to read! I would like to suggest you try some local breakfast at a coffeeshop. My guess is you are staying around Bencoolen Street. There are quite a number of Indian coffee shops around. Try the Roti Prata for a start. Hope to see you guys in Singapore again :) Kenn http://www.platimumbooks.com |
| 27th November 2006 jo | Mabuhay ! - From: Streetlife Enjoyed reading your blog :> |
| 20th November 2006 Edam | Cost - From: A Slice of Pai Ok sorry if this is too vague...basically you can find clean but minimal guesthouse rooms with ensuite bathrooms from 300 BAHT. (I'm sure that increases on the islands but we didn't travel much in the South) Midrange places are fantastic, for 1,000 BAHT you can have it all and then some. Food is cheap...we could eat all our meals on the equivalent of USD15 a day and that was allowing a few treats and a little Western food. Transport is really cheap. In fact in general we found Thailand to be cheaper than the rest of Indo-China and also better value for money. One exception, books, they cost us a fortune; you easily pay 7/8 USD for a second-hand or even a copied book. Bring all you want to read. |
| 20th November 2006 Edam | following the west... - From: Carry on Buddha Ya I agree totally. Also, there is almost a sense of pride involved in feeding up the kids, especially in rural areas. A. |
| 19th November 2006 jackie | Fab - From: A Slice of Pai Have really enjoyed these. Can you include aprox price in some things guest houses etc it would be helpful. Keep safe will be with you. Heading out to Thailand on 21st December |
| 19th November 2006 Jackie | Fat kids - From: Carry on Buddha We think it is the influx of western food mc Donalds etc also some of the kids are half western and as such carry the genes |
| 19th November 2006 JACKIE | love the blog - From: The Land of Smiles i have really enjoyed this. more so now that it has got to thailand a place we love. I am just working my way through them now. |

| 14th August 2006 Michael Moore | You must be following us - From: The Land of Smiles Ed brian sent on your blog, its very good and very entertaining. We are on the same trip as yourselves. We arrived in India on the 30th of June and were in rajastan for two weeks before agra and varanasi. We then headed up north to the himalayas before a few days in mumbai before we left for thailand on the 11th of August. We are west of Bangkok in the town famous for the bridge over the river kwoi. Its very good and i would recommend a day trip to the waterfalls in the national park, bamboo rafting, elephant ride also. Go to apples and noi if you are there very very nice |
| 11th August 2006 King Con The Swazi | Yebo - From: City Slickers Yo Yo Yo! Greetings from Swaziland. The travel blog is class, although i'm glad to hear you got Delhi Belly, you seem to be enjoying yourself too much, haven't seen any pictures of you smoking Ganj on the banks of the Ganjees (spelling might be a bit ropey here), will be very disappointed if you arrive home without a beard and beads. Connor |
| 5th August 2006 Brian Carroll | Indiana - From: Damp in Mt Abu & Living it up in Udaipur Hi Ed and Amy, Really enjoying reading about your travels. It's bringing back a lot of memories. The entry about the camels was very funny. They’re temperamental things alright, they can go a fair pelt when they want to. Ed, I hear you’re suffering a bit from Delhi belly at the moment. Hope you’re on the path to recovery. So, is Bangkok the next city? Looking forward to reading about more adventures. All the best, Brian. |

| 10th July 2006 Gongeen | Amy in Sari - From: Agra Phobia Would you look at your one in the Sari, you're a right little Indira!!! Maybe if Ed gets the old Delhi Belly, he'll start to look like Mahatma. I wouldn't pose for anymore Di photos if I was you, she came to a sticky end. Reading your account leads me to believe this India place is a lot like Ballinadee.... mind you I never met anyone that liked India! Remember auntie says keep in by the wall and mind the elephants. lol, Caroline |
