I am nuts about the Amazon and own a lodge in Iquitos, Peru. My wife and I lived there for two years right after getting married and now run the project from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The initiative, Ecovagabond Lodge, manages to consume every single free minute of my spare time; we simply love the place and enjoy preserving the forest that was once our home. My other interests are teaching, I’m a high school biology teacher, and travelling of course, I’m a tour guide in the summer. Nepal and India are first on my list of countries to visit, and in a few months I'll be headed for Antarctica. Carpe diem!
General Description Iquitos, on the banks of the Amazon River, is the largest city in the world not connected to other cities by roads. The only means of access are air and river travel. It's located in north-eastern Peru, deep in the heart of the Amazon basin and four degrees south of the Equator. It’s the capital city of the Loreto Region and has a population of over 400,000, by far the largest city in the jungles of Peru. The city is a blend of Amerindian and European cultures of diverse heritage. The wealth amassed during the rubber boom in the late 1800's is evidenced today in the sophisticated and colourful architecture around the Plaza de Armas.
