I feel it's necessary to explain my life here in Cuernavaca a little more in-depth because I realize it may be hard to visualize where I am and what I'm doing..... "Cuernavaca is the capital and the largest city in the state of Morelos. At an altitude of 5, 000 ft., it is a growing metropolitan area with a population of approx. 700,000 permanent residents. Known as the "City of Eternal Spring," Cuernavaca has been one of the principal vacation centers of Central Mexico since pre-hispanic times due to its temperate year round climate, prevailing sunshine, and abundance of flowering trees [View Full Entry]

My house!
My host sisters!

Yesterday we went to Tepotzlán, a small community located about half an hour from Cuernavaca. It's known for its great folk art market on the weekends, as well as large mountains around it...one of which has the Tepozteco pyramid at the top. So what does one do when there's an ancient pyramid at the top of a massive mountain?! Climb to the top, of course!! And that's exactly what we did. We all started the trek together, but reached our goal at different points. I was climbing with aching blisters on my feet from my (new) shoes that I'd worn to [View Full Entry]

I love sweating

Hey everyone! It seems like weeks since I last wrote, but I realize it's only been a little over 2 days. But I'm having what we've always talked about on our mission trips....Mexico Days. The days are long and jampacked with experiences. Let me see if I can recap the last 48 hours. I'm already starting to feel behind on this journaling thing.... Friday afternoon Anne and I went up to the zócalo to explore it more. Bustling as always, we settled in for drinks and good conversation. I took a 2.5 hour siesta, which was much needed, and that nap [View Full Entry]

The Pyramid of the Sun
What´s left of Teotihuacán

!Hola from Mexico! And to forewarn you...the keyboards are different, so ignore any and all typos, please! €ñç¿?!¿¡ See how fun it is?!?!?! Haha...until you try to type at a rapid pace! So my trip here was fantastic! The 6am flight out of Kansas...not so fun, but I got a little shut-eye on the first flight. I spent the second one watching a cheesey teeny bopper movie and chatting away with a Mexican niña and her mama. The view out the window was fantastic the closer we got to Mexico City. The clouds were big and fluffy and white (just how [View Full Entry]

Well, I'm not physically in México just yet, but mentally...I'm there! Ignoring the heaping pile of clothes sitting next to my suitcase, I choose to start my adventure early. Mentally I'm already exploring the new sights, sounds, and smells. And because I'm an optimist...I'm already fluent in these daydreams! :-) I've been thinking a lot the past two days about how different this trip will be from my other experiences in a foreign country. I am fortunate to have studied abroad in Barcelona for six weeks in 2003, and then backpacked through Europe last summer, but never have I entered a [View Full Entry]
