The trip to Gili involved a 17 minute flight and terrible harassment from the locals in Lombok... Steph, Sally and I were glad to get over to Gili (by ferry) where everyone is way more laid back... The islands -- there are three; Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air -- are quiet during the day and a divers haven. At night Trawangan would turn into a party beach... each night a different nightclub along the beach would have a "party" which would involve loud music and dancing often until the sun came up. The accommodation on Gili is varied, [View Full Entry]

Kuta, Bintang and Surfing... Asia
So, Kuta is the main "night life" area, and the primary surfing beach (not speaking about quality here, just about where people seem to start). The main beach is VERY long... ran all the way from Hard Rock to Double Six (very cool nightclub) one day, about 30 minutes one way, and not even a third of the way down the beach. Sadly, there is also a McDonalds. I met Augusto, a local guy, who took me on a tour of Bali island, it was very interesting. Saw some rice fields, temples, forests (with monkeys that swim!!) and generally saw the [View Full Entry]

Welcome to Hotel Bali-fornia! Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Nusa Dua
I am staying at the Conrad (Hilton Family) Resort in Bali and it is stunning .. truly amazing. When I arrived at the airport there was a BWM X5 waiting to take me to the resort. The drive there was, thankfully, uneventful. When we arrived at the hotel it was to a stunning scene -- a massive waterfall on a stone wall with two massive torches buring on either side -- so sorry I did not get a picture of that. (Will probably be back there in a few weeks, so will get one next time!) Anyway, the entrance may have [View Full Entry]

Another first... Asia » Singapore
I arrived in Singapore without much idea of what to expect... I mean, I vaguely knew not to spit gum out on the sidewalk or strap drugs to my body as I went through customers but as I do neither anywhere else, I was not too afraid. I stayed at the Singapore Hilton and explored the area around the hotel a bit... found this mall. Full of pushy electronics sales people, tailors and "massage" ladies..... Later that night I went to a pub for a drink and met some locals (European's living in Sing) and they told me that that mall [View Full Entry]

Noodles please! Asia » Hong Kong
My first visit to Hong Kong.... did not get to see much. Will have to do this again. Found some cool tours I would like to do into Mainland China so next time around. Still, stayed in the Hong Kong Hilton and it was amazing. First night, on the 50th or something floor, a major lightening storm rolled in.. what a show! Went for a walk outside my hotel one night.. neighborhood was full of clubs and strip joints... as I walked buy these evil looking women litterally grabbed me (painfully sometimes) by the arm in and tried to drag me [View Full Entry]

Sushi Please! Asia » Japan » Tokyo » Shinjuku
Seems silly to travel from the Sushi capital of the world (Vancouver) to Tokyo just for sushi! Anyway, met my brother nick in Tokyo and we had a blast! Nick took me on a tour of the clubbing scene and we went ALL night long. I remember looking at my watch as I walked into the last club of the night, it was 7:30am!! When I walked out I wanted my sunglasses because it was t henext day and people were on their way to work! The Japanese clearly understand theconcept of nightlife! [View Full Entry]

My second trip to Big White this year (thanks BigWhiteChallets.com) and I love it. Mark, Elise and Jenny (from UK) joined me for this leg of the adventure, as did my son Daniel! We had an excellent time -- some of the best skiing I have EVER had. We had many bright sunny days, interesting and varying snow conditions... and excellent company. Out door hot tub, ski in ski out is never a bad thing! After Elise left, Mark hung on for a few days and Daniel joined us... Jenny's snow boarding resulted in a very sore bum, and Daniel took [View Full Entry]

Meet the snowghosts!

It is strange, of all the cities I have called home -- Halifax, Edmonton, Victora, Vancouver, Cork, Bristol, Chicago, Weston-super-Mare -- Vanocuver remains "home" more than the rest! (But not so much as the Kruger National Park). Anyway, it was nice to get home -- Hello Smo's!. Did what I could to support the Canucks to no avail -- good luck with your golfing boys, and enjoy your new job Mark! Went to see T Harv Ecker's Millonaire Mind weekend, interesting! Recommend it... Mark, Elise and Jenny (from UK) joined me and we headed up to Kelowna (Big White) for a [View Full Entry]

I was supposed to head out for a little snorkelling adventure but the safe in my room would not open to get my passport. By the time I got it open -- no kidding with a Fonzie punch -- I had missed my tour, so instead I just travelled the island and then met up with the girls on the deck later. It had been quite a long time since I visited the Cayman islands so it was a real blast from the past to rent a scooter and head out on the island that I was once so familiar [View Full Entry]
