Dustin & Emily Schuyler Welcome to our travel blog!

We just spent a year in Korea and are now back in the good 'ol United States of America. All of our current blogs are about our travels and experiences in Korea and other Asian countries. Emily and I are both living in Florida for the Summer before moving to London in the fall. We'll continue to post blogs on occasion about our fun times in America and will continue writing when we move to London also.

Enjoy!

We are home. Our year in Korea is over. It was a year that we will always remember. We did a lot of cool stuff and made some great friends along the way. During the past year I: -Made lots of friends from all over the world. I now have friends and a free place to stay in Korea, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and England. One of the hardest things about working in Korea is that just about everyone (except the Korean staff) moves away after a year. So you would meet some cool people, then they would leave, and [View Full Entry]

Our first stop was actually in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We were only here for a few hours before heading to the Philippines. However, they were a few hours well spent. There were two things that Derek and I wanted to try while we on our big Asian Adventure: balut and durian fruit. As you have read, we tried balut in the Philippines, mmmm tasty. We tried durian fruit in Malaysia, gag awful! It was terrible. Way worse that we imagined. We couldn’t buy just a sample, we had to buy the whole thing, which was surprisingly expensive. We could only manage [View Full Entry]

Singapore, the utopia of today. Seriously, this country (city-state actually) was amazing. There were so many cool things about this place that it did seem perfect. There are around 4-5 million people that live in Singapore. Most of the population was Chinese; however, it seemed like a peaceful common ground for multiple races. Singapore was a beautiful, well constructed country that ran smoothly. More impressively though, was how clean it was. I do not believe that I saw a single piece of trash on the ground. It was amazing. There are reasons for this though. There are some pretty s [View Full Entry]

Asian Invasion Entry 1 We apologize in advance for being so slow in updating our blog. One of our goals when moving to South Korea was to travel…a lot. In November Emily and I went with two of our friends, Sandy and Derek, to invade Asia! We all took a 12 day vacation that included about 11 different flights and three different countries. Our Asian Invasion consisted of the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia. As you can imagine, we packed in a lot for a 12 day holiday. We have several stories and adventures about each country so I have separated them [View Full Entry]

Okay, here goes... I'm gonna try to do this quickly so that I can get right to the million & a half blog entries that will be necessary to cover everything we just did on our Malaysia extravaganza! So, Koh Lanta, Thailand, take 2-.... A really unexpected and awesome thing is happening on the island of Koh Lanta, and its called puppies and kittens galore! We have no idea why, but Koh Lanta is just overwhelmed with puppies and kittens running around on the beach and the resorts. The whole place is a living advertisement for having your pets spayed [View Full Entry]

Okay okay, we got it, we take freakin' forever to update this thing. So sorry, but ya know, we do work every week AND we have lives. So deal with it yo. This particular entry is about 3 weeks late, just to tell you all upfront. So, Thailand.... Being there is like being magically transported into a postcard from Heaven. We left EV right after work (so 6pm) on the 19th of September, and let me tell you, this vacation could not have come at a better time. Our last class was YLA (a program we run that involves small [View Full Entry]

We are getting ready to leave Seoul and headed toward Jeju!
This is a long overdue blog entry about our trip to Jeju Island in late August. Jeju Island is just south of South Korea. It has been described as a tropical island that was the “Florida of South Korea”. So even though Jeju is hardly anything like Florida with it’s very hard to find small beaches, we still had a great time. We went with some of our friends on a three day weekend. Due to the short amount of time we had there, we only stayed in one area of the island. So who knows, maybe the rest of the [View Full Entry]

This weekend we went to the Boryeong mud festival in Daechon Beach, and I really only have one thing to say about it- Awesome! We initially heard about this festival when we were in Chicago at the Korean Consulate getting our visas. A couple of other Americans were telling us how they had gone the year before, it was a cool thing to do, blah blah blah, but we didn't really think about it again until a few weeks ago when people at EV started planning trips. We decided to go with a couple friends of ours, Derek and Sandy [View Full Entry]

-This took place at the end of May; we just took awhile to post it.- The warm weather is here! Hoorayyy! A lot of our coworkers formed a trip to a nearby water park for one of our days off. We thought that was an excellent plan to celebrate the weather, so we joined them. The park we went to had both a theme park and a water park. Unfortunately, due to the schedule of busses, we only had enough time to do just the water park. But the water park was all we needed to have on fabulous day off. [View Full Entry]

Yay we are hiking!!!
After recently purchasing a large amount of camping gear, Emily and I were very anxious to put it to use. We thought there would be no better spot to start off with other than Bukansan Mountain. Bukansan Mountain is one of the most famous mountains around the Seoul area. It is rated as moderate to extreme difficulty and we haven’t really ever hiked a mountain before. But hey, why not start with the most awesome extremist one in the area right? All we had about this mountain was a few pages that our Seoul Lonely Planet book contained. In these few [View Full Entry]
