India at a glance Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jodhpur
After a month of Goan beaches it was back to the cattle train, destination, ‘The Real India.’ We arrived at 5:30am just in time to witness the sleeping city of Mumbai manifest itself into a whirlwind of pure chaos. The morning ritual of relieving ones bladder is no different in India, some men lined the gutters whilst others found it necessary to mark their territory on nearby walls. Ahhhh, now we must be back in, ‘The Real India.’ Our accommodation resembled something like a 4th class cabin on a cruise ship. Two single beds, measuring the length of the room, a [View Full Entry]

The Hard Goan Way Asia » India » Goa » Palolem
So how does one describe Palolem? You could mention the beautiful beach, palm trees, weather, food, bars, ocean view huts etc etc..... but where's the fun in that? To me Palolem is a world of contrasts. From your ultimate hippie living up in the palm tree wearing nothing but a piece of string covering his crack and a small leather flap protecting his sack to your charter flown English royalty type living in a 5 star hotel - "anyone fancy a game of golf?" Then there are those that fall somewhere in between. I suppose the important message I'm trying to [View Full Entry]

My First Taste of Goa Asia » India » Goa » Palolem
Goa is lined with beaches from north to south, with each beach offering something different. I don't really know why I chose Palolem of all the places, but I'm sure as hell glad that I did… The beaches are beautiful, the weather is bliss and best of all, the people here, both locals and foreigners, are great. I have met heaps of people and been a great time enjoying everything Palolem has to offer. Last night being one of the best nights I've had since traveling. After my daily ritual of a swim in the ocean and a game of beach [View Full Entry]

Tiger Leaping Gorge Asia » China
Southwest China, Lijiang, about 100km from India and also close to Tibet. We stayed in this old town, which had a unique charm to it and snow capped mountains in the background. I was there with my Welsh and Dutch mates, Steve and Michael, and we spent the first three nights getting absolutely slaughtered. After a few days of being pissheads we then headed up to a mountain range called, 'Tiger Leaping Gorge.' It was a 2-hour bus ride from Lijiang and we arrived at about 5pm. Meanwhile, we were nursing huge hangovers and on about 5 hours sleep. We hiked [View Full Entry]

Biking Vietnam Asia » Vietnam » Red River Delta » Hanoi
Well, I have just completed one of, if not, the best weeks of my life. Spent the last week riding through the North of Vietnam, from Hanoi to Sapa. Was on a bike called a "Minsk." It is a motorbike that was built in the Soviet Union and is the most basic of bikes. It has a 150cc engine, off road wheels, needs to be kick started (which was a first for me) and needs oil to be mixed with the petrol in order for it to work. This also ensures a smokey muffler. I won't give you a day to [View Full Entry]
