| 26th May 2009 Chris Allan | Bones - From: Bones on the Trail Missing work so much you have to drag a little ortho into it, eh? Lotsa crafting phrases and clicking pix for a roadtrip! Impressive that you can make the time and find the resources to do it. All right Rev.--thanks for a window on the beautiful world out there...and safe travels. Chris |

| 25th May 2009 Dana Arnim | takes me back... - From: Sunday, Day of Rest (and Drying) Ahhh, This takes me back to 2007 - our trek through the land of the dinosaurs. You find 'em around every corner, on every street, in every yard... you get the picture! Good luck finding the sun guys! |

| 25th May 2009 Drew Barrymore | Vernal Garden Decor - From: Sunday, Day of Rest (and Drying) To date, THIS is my favorite site of the trip...... (ok, the questionable sideways lying of the bike is a close second, but Oh oh I love the garden decor!) |
| 24th May 2009 Diane | You're having fun! - From: Sunday, Day of Rest (and Drying) Oh gosh, i love these trivia photos (let's fish! RCA color tv!) Now i really know i want to meet this reverand guy, Chuck, after seeing him going over the museum fence. And what a bonanza: dino statues! It must be fun for you guys to know you've got a rapt audience. |
| 24th May 2009 Bruce H | rain covers?... - From: Chasing the Sun I always wanted a rain cover for my bike but never felt I had enough room while traveling. I don't mind a little rain if the prospects later in the day are for sun and it isn't 37 degrees. Keep 'em comming. |
| 24th May 2009 Bruce H | I am sure liking this... - From: Tracin the Great Basin I am sure liking this ride report. I have been without a bike the last two weekends and am experiencing withdrawal... My final drive ring bearing dumped so am waiting for parts stuck in customs. With luck they will arrive next week and the following weekend I will again get to ride. Keep the photos and ride descriptions coming. |
| 24th May 2009 Bruce H | - From: Snakes on the Road I see Sandy at Fields treated you well. Frenchglen also has a great breakfast however only from7:30am to 9:30am. |
| 24th May 2009 Bruce H | Very Nice! - From: A Taste of Dirt Very nice ride report! |
| 24th May 2009 Dos Dirty Padres | Detective Mike - From: A Taste of Dirt Thanks, Mike. Just want you to know how friendly and helpful your law enforcement colleagues have been. Park Rangers in particular have steered us toward good eats, firewood, and great campsites. We have not earned any performance awards- thus far. |
| 24th May 2009 Mike | Hey Guys - From: A Taste of Dirt I see your still alive, Good. I saw your post on the Bloody Marry-Christ, Whoops. I dont even like the sound of that, let alone to order such a drink, Sorry. I stick with the occassional Coors Lite & my wife with the wine, thus I never really look @ the drink menu. Well remember, look ahead, Knees & elbows bent and the rubber side dwn and the shinny side up. |
| 24th May 2009 Scott | Or... - From: The Agony and the Ecstasy He saw a nice "Ass" and when he turned around to go back for a second look he turned to sharply and crashed! |
| 24th May 2009 Scott | Me thinks... - From: The Agony and the Ecstasy I think a grouse was chasing Chuck because he was hungry and when he tried to run back to his bike a big gust of wind blew his bike over. Either that or he didn't put his kick stand down all the way when he got off the bike, as he walked toward the bushes to relieve himself he heard a thunderous "CRASH". He turned back to the bike only to see it lying there in the middle of the road. |
| 23rd May 2009 Dos Dirty Padres | Bachelor Salad - From: A Taste of Dirt The genius who invented this should be sainted: St. Salad! You've got all this lettuce and other veggies slightly imperfect and not pretty enough to retail in the produce section? Chop it up, stick it in a bag with little baggie of croutons and a packet of dressing, and sell it as salad kit! Call it bachelor salad- no fuss, no muss. I travel with my cooking kit stored in a Tuperware box specifically for mixing one. Throw in an extra tomato and boom: dinner. The other night we fried up some chicken breast and tossed it in a ceasar salad kit with a tomato and green onion. Life is good. |
| 23rd May 2009 Scott | Lookin for scraps... - From: Snakes on the Road I was thinking that poor bird is misunderstood. You said there were numerous "flat snakes - resting" - Well this poor fella was hungry and he just wanted the spun up snake scraps from under the fenders. All the other birds were eating snake... |
| 23rd May 2009 Diane | hotels & salad - From: A Taste of Dirt I love that joke...it's one of the only ones i know well enough to tell. But in my version, heaven has the Swiss as the hoteliers, and hell has the Italians as same. What is bachelor salad? Pickle relish and catsup for the bratwurst? |
| 23rd May 2009 Matt | ..just a Dakota Roller, for now;> - From: Dos Padres prep their Steeds Hey dad! just got home and im checkin out your trip. looks awesome! be safe the both of you. i'll try to keep up. |
| 23rd May 2009 Dos Dirty Padres | SHOWY!? - From: Snakes on the Road Yes, Reverend Chuck's BMW is Teutonic Black. But unlike Reverend Chuck, my bike's daily duty is a city commuter, and those cell-phone soccer moms in Volvos would see me otherwise. And thank you for noticing. (Honest to God, some guy came up to us and asked if I always run interference in the rear!) |
| 23rd May 2009 Jill Stewart | Which one's the grouse? - From: Snakes on the Road I can't tell, in pix number 7! But seriously guys, reading your post reminded me of several places I spent many weeks as a child (happily) and teen (belligerently): Steens mountain, Elko County -- all verrrry fine rock huntin' grounds! On another issue, Bill, isn't your bike just a little, well, SHOWY compared to the other one? |
| 23rd May 2009 Dana Arnim | nice flags! - From: Snakes on the Road Glad to hear all is well. I'm going to have a G&T in your honor tonight... and a few more tomorrow with the girls. Wish you could have one with me! |
| 20th May 2009 Don at HMC | Really looking good - From: The Ass-Crack of Dawn yes you are on vacation and having a good time. |
| 20th May 2009 Dana Arnim | a few smiles? - From: The Ass-Crack of Dawn A few miles or a few smiles? If I know you, (and I do), there were more than a few sit-eating grins from here to there. Keep 'em coming honey! |
| 20th May 2009 Mike Moore | Elko Co. Pig (hahha) - From: The Ass-Crack of Dawn I met these two exploring travelers when they made a stop @ our local grocery store in Spring Creek,NV. Two great guys who I was lucky to meet & give some personal advice for travel/camping spots along their journey. I too ride a V-Strom 650 & love my bike. My problem is that everyone around Elko rides either crotch rockets or cruisers. I hope to make a journey w/ others who enjoy a little of both. My motto is, " OFF THE BEATEN PATH IS ALWAYS THE BEST." like life; its not always easy, simple or cheap. But the rewards come from inside. GOOD LUCK to both of you. Your Local Deputy Sheriff/K-9 & friend Mike Moore |
| 19th May 2009 lynda | awesome - From: The Ass-Crack of Dawn Hey looks like a great trip....I'm very jealous. Reverend Chucks tent looks like mine! I love your saddle bags Bill. I want a pair like that esp after I cracked my left one nicely last fall when I fell. Be safe...happy trails. Lynda |
| 19th May 2009 scotto | salty feeners - From: The Ass-Crack of Dawn Chuky's got his hand in that "ridin magic" supplement container again. God the weather looks great!! Be safe and I look forward to hearin more about the trip. We leave for phoenix tomorrow, we stay at the Xona resort in North Scottsdale. Give us a call if you are down that way, but we leave on Monday morning. |
| 19th May 2009 Sara | Yikes!!!! - From: The Ass-Crack of Dawn Those are some pasty white legs Rev. Chas!!!!! Dont'cha got no SUN over there????? Are ya anemic??? I know you can't ride in shorts but HECK...have some SUN!!!! Be safe! Love ya!!!!XOXOX |
| 19th May 2009 Sara | ...and may you always elude "diablo"! - From: Dos Padres prep their Steeds Hey, Jo! Did the vet plug one of those chips in yer hubby's posterior? Brilliant idea! I was surprised to read his bike is customized with a "gel seat"! Hell! I've had one of those for YEARS!!! Been seating bullets trying to get rid of it. I DO hope they are safe & have a fabulous time. |
| 18th May 2009 Chuck's ever-lovin' wife | Via con Dios - From: Dos Padres prep their Steeds I wish you two a grand adventure. I'll admit my faith is not always as strong as Chuck's. I even spoke with my veterinarien about have a chip imbedded in my honey's fanny. I was told it would only be of value if you two stumbled into a pound without your collars on. While I'm happy that Bill can do field sutures and that it will be virtually imposible for Chuck to text while driving his bike. I'll be delirious if you both come back safely with few wounds and many a story to tell. Happy trails! |
| 18th April 2008 Jill Stewart | Hucks you forgot to say no smog in LA!! - From: In the Tractor Beam Bill, thanks for the fab narrative of your amazing trek from Seattle to The OC and back. We Angelenos appreciate the rarity of having a Seattleite say something NICE in PUBLIC about us, like how 40% of us pulled over to let you pass. But Bill, you forgot to mention that there wasn't any smog here, man. Spring and fall are pretty nice now that we use special low emission barbecue fluid, special gas, and of course try not to belch. If I had the cojones, I'd learn to ride like you, and tool around on a vehicle that doesn't leave much of a mark on Earth. Alas! Thanks again, Mr. Hucks, for the (amazingly) detailed diary of your West Coast 2008 adventure. |
