5th OCTOBER 2008 - RAINY DAY ON HONG KONG ISLAND!! I slept well again and got up thankful that we had booked 2 nights and did not have to cart our backpacks around again! My shoulders could not take the strain so soon as they still hadn’t recovered from yesterday!! The weather looked miserable and all the people had umbrellas up. We had planned to go to Repulse Bay (what a name for a beach) but those plans were now scuppered and we had to go to plan B. We bought breakfast from a supermarket along the way and then had to go shelter in a local supermarket with hundreds of other people whilst the rain eased. 4th OCTOBER 2008 - THE PEAK TRAM!! When I awoke on 4th October - day 3 - I felt Good!!! I had slept well again and was fairly happy that we were moving on to new a new part of Hong Kong and most of all......a new Hostel! We had already visited Tourist Information and they had advised us where to go to find a hostel! We planned our journey, put the heavy backpacks on and set off along the 15 minute walk to the harbour! Once at the harbour we purchased breakfast from our new favourite bakery and ate it on a bench in the harbour. 1st/2nd OCTOBER 2008 - PLANE RIDE AND ARRIVAL IN HONG KONG!! The journey so far had been interesting to say the least!! The drive down to Heathrow passed quickly and we didn't get lost which is a first when my dad is driving.......though we did take one wrong turn!! We arrived at the airport in plenty of time and checked ourselves in. We couldn't put our bags in until 1 hour later so we went for something to eat with the folks to pass some time and stock up before the plane! We then heaved our bags on......so so heavy (16.2kg)...and at that point in time I kind of wished I had not packed so many clothes...surely 2 tops and 2 bottoms would have been ok?!!! 30th SEPTEMBER 2008 - ONE NIGHT TO GO!!! It was finally here!! I only one more sleep to go before I was due to jet off on my adventure!!! I was all packed apart from a few bits to put in the following morning. The bag was so heavy and I really could have done with someone to come along and carry it for me. I either have to hunch over so I rests on my back or stick my bum out so it rests on my bum......either way not a good look!!! 23rd SEPTEMBER 2008....ONE WEEK TO GO!! I had one week to go and was starting to make all my final preparations and sort all my things out. Nat and I had our leaving party on Sunday which was really nice. A lot of family and friends came and I managed to spend a bit of time with most people and say my goodbyes. It still did not seem like I was going even though I was saying goodbye. I was sure it would only hit me once I boarded the plane. The photos I have added are from the leaving party.....see if you can spot the common denominator (me)!!! 19th SEPTEMBER 2008.........FINAL DAY AT WORK!! They call me Dora the Explorer at work. When I arrived for my final day in the office, it didn't feel like I was leaving. I got on as normal with my jobs and it just didn't seem real until about 4.30pm when everyone gathered around my desk. I began to realise this was it! I was leaving and going to explore the world. I opened my parting gifts and was quieter than I think I’ve ever been though i kept myself composed...no tears....YET!!! After work those who could make it came across to the pub for a few beverages, some hugs and a final farewell!! Finishing work made it all start to feel real...like I am really going now and the excitement and nervousness began to in!!! The adventure ... read more

The journey starts on 1 October and we plan to return on 31 May 2008........who knows if everything will go to plan!!!... full info
