Loving Vietnam Asia » Vietnam » Southeast » Ho Chi Minh City
Day 3 in Vietnam and I love it !!! Ho Chi Minh city is absolute madness. Everyone tells you that crossing the street here is a leap of faith, but you can’t fully appreciate it until you get here. You literally step out into the traffic, keeping the same pace - DO NOT HESITATE OR STOP - and the traffic just goes around you. Motorbikes have been my main mode of transport since arriving in South East Asia and even though some trips got my heart pounding in anticipation ("will we make it?") mostly I trusted that the driver would get [View Full Entry]

Goodbye to Sihanoukville Asia » Cambodia » South » Sihanoukville
Tomorrow I head back to Phnom Penh and fly out the next day to Vietnam. I have so loved my week here in Sihanoukville. Days filled with swimming, sun baking and eating. The women and children here are so beautiful in appearance and in nature. They often come to sit with you, placing their hands on your arm or giving you a hug. There is real kindness in the women’s eyes and even though we come from different worlds you can feel a real connection with them. Chicks you'll know what I mean when I say 'sisterhood'. The kids are so [View Full Entry]

Sunset at Sihanoukville
fire dancing on the beach
Voitey and Channa making me a bracelet

Took the bus to Sihanoukville and wasn't disappointed. I've been desperate to see the beach again and now that I'm here I'm definitley staying for a few days. Had a shitty start to the day. Found out that some bastard has scammed me on my credit card (even though I've barely used it). So now I sit and wait to see if the bank can get me the money back. If not, I guess I'll be seeing you all sooner than I thought. Fingers crossed it all works out. To soothe my soul I'm off for a swim. See ya Donna [View Full Entry]

Phnom Penh Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh
Flew to Phom Penh - Cambodias capital city right on the waterfront. I really like the feel of this place and there's no shortage of great places to eat. Took a Moto (scooter) out to the Killing Fields of Choeung. The remains of 8985 (men, women and children) people have been found bound, beaten and blindfolded in mass graves. It's hard to believe that one human could do this to another ... especially to your own people! For all the horror that occoured at this location ... the surrounding country side is peaceful and breathtaking. Birds chirping, butterflies everywhere, more shades [View Full Entry]

The Bayon Asia » Cambodia » North » Angkor
Still feeling a little delicate - but the temples await! First stop The Bayon. The are 216 gargantuan faces of Avalokitesvara watching over this temple. Next one of five Angkor Thom city gates. It's walls stretch more than 12km and 6m high. [View Full Entry]

Sunrise at Angkor Asia » Cambodia » North » Angkor
Bugger, bugger, bugger !!! Woke up with the worst case of cramps ... the stomach monster has possessed me. But I must soldier on as I've already paid for my 3 day temple pass and they don't give extensions or refunds. John and I made the early morning trek out to Angkor Wat at 5am to watch the sunrise behind this masterpiece. Even though I was feeling like shit (pardon the pun) it still took my breath away and was worth the effort. From there we visited Ta Prohm. This one is my favourite!!! The temple has been pretty much abandoned [View Full Entry]

spectacular Angkor !!! Asia » Cambodia » North » Angkor
Arrived in Cambodia in whilst walking from the plane to the luggage carousel met John O'Leary from Chicago. He's right into his photography so came here specifically to capture the temples of Angkor in all their glory, plus he's a bloody walking encyclopedia on most things - which is very useful!! Night one we went for a traditional Cambodian feast and show - the graceful Apsara dance (see photos) plus light-hearted coconut dance and flirtatious fishing dance. Very colourful and really thrusts you into the culture. Most of the locals speak excellent english (especially the Monks and the [View Full Entry]

Beautiful Ayuthaya Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Ayuthaya
Thank god I'm out of Bangkok... caught the early train to Ayuthaya, Thailands former capital. Straight off the train I met Aussie mother and son Tracy and Sian from Brisbane (what a relief to again be mixing with down to earth people). It's fair to say Tracy and I didn't draw breath for the next 24 hours. Sat November 26th Tracey and Sian headed back to Bangkok. I spent a lazy day wandering around the town and enjoying my new digs - with my OWN BATHROOM and HOT SHOWER (woo hoo) Ayuthaya has the most amazing ruins so I wanted to [View Full Entry]

You never know what is just around the corner ... Had really had enough of Bangkok (and in particular the tuk tuk and taxi drivers) so had planned an escape. That's when I met a German chick called Claudia whilst having breakfast. After a short chat we decided to hang out for the day and I postponed my departure to the next day. One of our destinations - Wat Arun. [View Full Entry]

Not me! Am able to get around this massive city on foot with a really dodgy map and a lot of luck. Was so tired after yesterdays mammoth walk that I slept in until 11am.... mmmn nice! Visited Wat Pho today. It's the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok dating back to the 16th century ... and even though I'm already sick of temples ... it was pretty amazing. Can someone please thesaurus more words for amazing, beautiful etc The main attraction is a 46 meter long and 15 meter high reclining Buddha (WOW). [View Full Entry]
