| 10th November 2009 ARVIND APTE | ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM II - From: Vintage cars of Udaipur ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM II USED IN OCTOPUSSY WAS PURCHASED BY ARVINDSINGJI UDAIPUR FROM INDUMATI RAJE OF KOLHAPUR ON THE 27TH SEPTEMBER 1971. THE CHASIS NO, I THINK IS, YR 181 I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCATING THIS RR AND ACCOMPANIED MY OLD CRICKETING FRIEND ARVINDSINGHJI TO KOLHAPUR FOR THE PURCHASE OF THIS CAR. I DROVE THIS RR ALL THE WAY FROM KOLHAPUR TO BOMBAY WITH ONLY 45 MINUTES STOP OVER IN POONA. THE ONLY MALFUNCTION DURING THIS JOURNEY WAS HORN FUSE BLOWING OUT. ALL THE FUSES BEING THOUGHTFULLY AND NEATLY PROVIDED UNDER THE BONNET, REPLACING THE FUSE WAS A 2 MINUTE JOB !! FOR THE FIRST TIME WE ALSO SAW CHATRAPATI'S MAYBACH. AS PER A BOOK ON RRs THE TITLE I FORGET, ORIGINALLY IT WAS THE BOMBAY/KOLHAPUR RUN BY THE FIRST RR IN INDIA WHICH PROVED SO SUCCESSFUL AND MADE RRs SO POPULAR WITH PRINCES. THIS IS A 7 SEATER LIMOUSINE BY WINDOVERS. EVERY TIME I VISIT MY FRIEND ARVINDSINGHJI, I MAKE IT A POINT TO SEE THIS MAGNIFICNT PHANTOM II. ARVIND APTE |

| 30th July 2009 Terri | - From: The End: Back to Americana You have a lifetime to act on your travel-inspired convictions. They may occasionally feel lost in the hub-bub of Americana, floating lukewarm under the cold surface, but I'm confident that various situations along life's road will bring them to a simmer, and then boil forth with a passion that simply did NOT exist before this trip. The world is a better place with Nico and Hannah in it! |
| 30th July 2009 Nicole Beckstrand | Must publish a book! - From: The End: Back to Americana You are still going to publish a book, right??;-) Great blog. Thank you so much for inviting me to read along with your adventures!! |
| 30th July 2009 anna kohler | thank you! - From: The End: Back to Americana Dear Hannah and Nico I would like to thank you very much for your travel blogs during more than one year! We met in march 2008 at Ban Krut in Thailand, perhaps you remember me, the woman from Switzerland. It was very interesting me to follow your travel and often I was very touched by your reports. Sometimes reading them it was for me a little bit like I would travel I myself. You also told from countries I've been also before, and I remembered things I've lived there. I hope you can accommodate again in "normal" live, and I think, the whole live is a travel, also a inner travel. I wish you the best for your future, and hope to hear from you again! You are always welcome in Switzerland! Anna |
| 30th July 2009 Erin Becker | Awesome - From: The End: Back to Americana Awesome Blog Nico! Thanks for sharing and letting us into your lives for 14 months! Glad to have you guys back in SD. |

| 15th June 2009 Alan | Petra - From: Caught between a rock, a dead sea, and a hard to find work place! These pictures are awesome, I'm going to Petra in a couple weeks and I hope my pictures are as good as yours. By the way, it was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade that was filmed in Petra. |
| 25th May 2009 Terri Smiley | Montana in my bones - From: Closing the circle in Montana I not only wear Montana under my skin -- the landscape is in my bones. Transplanted temporarily to the lush state of Pennsylvania, my heart often yearns for the wide open spaces, spectacular mountain views, and dry western air. Thank you, Nico, for capturing Hannah's re-entry experience to Montana as an adult. As long as we have property and a home in Montana, it is your home also. Love, Mom |
| 22nd May 2009 Do It Like The Locals | Laughing through tears - From: Closing the circle in Montana A note from a close friend: " Nico's narrative and the gorgeous photos perfectly capture the ambivalence that native Montanans....those who "get out and make it"....all wear just under their skin. And, as you see from Nico's description of Virginia City, "it" rubs off on those who love us. Are we of two minds about our native home? Or of two hearts? Or is it a split between the rational mind that is chagrined by the smallness of the parochial culture and the heart that opens to the generous warmth of the people. And then plunk it all down in the most gorgeous places. No wonder we are all psychotic! Here's a warning: it only gets harder as you get older. " |

I thought I'd have to wait until you got back. Your faithfulness with the blog is simply mind-boggling and greatly appreciated. Love Bolivia! and love YOU! Hugs, M |
| 26th February 2009 Mary (mom) | A Bolivian Safari - From: A Bolivian Safari: The most diverse terrain per square mile in the world The Land Cruiser reminded me of our Ethiopian safari. Coincidentally, the Bolivian flag has the same colors as the Ethiopian, only reversed (Green, Yellow, Red) and with a star in the middle. Check it out: http://www.ethioworld.com/CountryInformation/ethiopianflag.htm Wow, those photos are awesome! Keep having fun! Love you. Mary |
| 17th February 2009 Maria Ioannou | I am from Cyprus - From: Cyprus Souvlaki Hello, I am a student and we had to do an exercise on travel blog and I chose you guys because you went to Cyprus and I'm from there. I love my island and I hope you liked it!!! |

| 17th February 2009 Terri Smiley | Editorial comment: political unrest in Bolivia in September - From: Argentina: Cordoba Culture, Iguazu Falls, and a Castle in Salta An editorial comment regarding our experience in Bolivia in September 2008: I'm not sure that the American Embassy was "attacked", but the American Ambassador was kicked out of Bolivia and the State Department was removing our Peace Corps contingent, many of whom showed up at our hotel in Tarija, Bolivia where we doing a Habitat build. Tarija was blockaded and the airport was closed for several days running, but it was more of a peaceful protest by students and the middle class, and there was NO violence against Americans. We just all thought it best to take up our Habitat hosts' offer to leave the country via a private bus and go south into Argentina. Hence we arrived at the Castillo de San Lorenzo, credit cards in hand, and had a thoroughly enjoyable introduction to Argentina. |
| 17th February 2009 Terri Smiley | Get the DVD "The Mission" - From: Argentina: Cordoba Culture, Iguazu Falls, and a Castle in Salta This note is for all Hannah and Nico's friends who are reading the blog: rent the movie "The Mission" and you'll get a great story of the Jesuits and a mission they began in the mid-1700's at Iguazu Falls. The indigenous people in the movie are just that - NOT actors. The scenery and the story is fascinating...a chapter in history that many people don't know about. I was so enthralled that I also watched the DVD commentary. |
| 17th February 2009 Theresa | Hello - From: Argentina: Cordoba Culture, Iguazu Falls, and a Castle in Salta Hey Hannah and Nico, I was just thinking of your two and wondering where you were. Hope you are being enriched in how amazing this world is, and the different people that call the lands you visit, their "home" May God's love, consume you, Hugs, T |

| 28th January 2009 Cousin Erik | What camera are you all using? - From: Bienvenidos a las Americas Hey ya'll - great post and I am glad you are enjoying being back in the Western Hemisphere! Myself and Theresa are going to Paris in April for honeymoon and wondered - what type of camera are you using on your adventure? We would like to get one like it since your pics are always really good. |
| 27th January 2009 Liana | a year already?! - From: Bienvenidos a las Americas Uruguay looks gorgeous! Ha, I love your description of the Corona. I'm so excited that we'll be seeing you guys again soon, but I can't imagine how it must feel to come back (sad?) after traveling around the WORLD. I'm sure someone already suggested this, but you guys should make a book out of your blog. And maybe a series of slideshow parties?! Have a blast in South America!! |
| 27th January 2009 Terri Smiley | Post-surgery tango!! - From: Bienvenidos a las Americas Great pics from Argentina and Uruguay. I wasn't in Argentina long enough to see some Tango, so I'm glad you guys showed me what it's about. Only I'm too old for that kind of surgery! I toast YOU TWO and the new year ahead for my favorite global citizens. Love, Mom |

| 19th January 2009 Erik Cockrell | Wanderlust in our blood... - From: Itinerary Hey Hannah! This is your long-lost cousin Erik from Austin, TX. Oma told me about your website - wanderlust is in the Cockrell/Wilner blood!!!! Since we last saw each other at the family reunion in Texas, I have been able to visit Russia, China, Hong Kong and India. It's amazing how my viewpoint about America and my gratitude for the quality of life I have shifts dramatically after traveling abroad. I would love to meet your fiancee sometime! I got divorced 3 years ago and am now getting remarried to an amazing woman named Theresa on April 4, 2009. I now have 2 kids (Jordan - boy - 9 and Autumn - girl - 6). Theresa has Nicole - girl - 6. I have never been happier. Austin is great place to live compared to anywhere else I have been. Please know you all have a place to stay here anytime! Love, Erik (and Tabatha - my cat that you met in D.C. long ago!) |

My daughter, ever the fashionista....even spreads mud in exactly the right places around her black bikini to make a very fashionable statement! Don't think she learned it from me, but we can ALL learn from her! |

| 6th January 2009 Mary | Bad Timing?! - From: Caught between a rock, a dead sea, and a hard to find work place! I would argue and say it was perfect timing that you guys got out of the region before the bombing started.... Phew, glad to see you in South America. Love, Mom |
| 31st December 2008 Mary | Biking... - From: Sweet and Sour Holy Land Ah yes...Hannah and her biking ideas while traveling. Did she also say "Map, schmap...we'll figure it out"? It seems vaguely familiar. ;) |
| 20th December 2008 Anne Clark | Beautiful timing for your visit & message - From: Sweet and Sour Holy Land What a beautiful message at a wonderful time. Love to you both, and such a wonder that you have come to these understandings at such an early age. Where will it lead you! |
| 17th December 2008 Anne | Chef extraordinaire! - From: Cyprus Souvlaki I'm amazed that you could find the ingredients for an American-style Thanksgiving dinner, and cook them in a kitchen that probably is not terribly traditional! Bravo! But I want to try your souvlaki! I'm turkeyed out! |
| 16th December 2008 Mary | Cyprus Souvlaki - From: Cyprus Souvlaki Wow, the Cypriot souvlaki looks delicious! Hope you can make it for us when you get back. Hannah, the Thanksgiving dinner looked excquisite! What a great way to introduce the family to one of the most meaningful holidays celebrated in the States. Love, love, love. Mom |
| 3rd December 2008 DB | Please come back - From: Banking with the Brooks in the land of chocolate watches This is Darren and Jane - let me say to anyone that has Nico and Hannah come visit them, that you are in for a treat. They are the best house guests and we enjoyed every minute with them. I'm sure Nico's family in Greece did not want to let them go. Neither did we! We all had a blast, even little Nugs. PS - Nugs is short for Nugget, which was Matthew's "official" name prior to being born - looks like it is a name that has stuck! Have fun in Cypress! |
| 2nd December 2008 Mary | Oh...Italy! - From: Milan Photo Highlights I miss Italy. Hope you are having fun! And of course speaking all the Italian you learned during your semester in Rome. ;) |
| 29th November 2008 Anne C. | Ahh... family!....Greece! - From: Picture Perfect Two of the best things of life! Happy Holidays! |

| 19th November 2008 Do It Like The Locals | Response to above - From: Triple culture in Kuala Lumpur I don't think we described the Malay as the least populous in Malaysia, nor do we have anything against them or any of the groups. On the contrary, the diversity of the culture in Malaysia is one of the things we appreciate most about the country. |
| 19th November 2008 Decepticon | - From: Triple culture in Kuala Lumpur "KL (like the rest of Malaysia) is characterized by three main cultures and their religions: the Chinese Bhuddist or Taoist, the Indian Hindus, and the Malay Muslims. Seems like you describe the Malay is the least populous people in Malaysia, or you may have issue with them. I think it's better be corrected. |
| 17th November 2008 Anne Clark | You renew good memories - From: Ionian Islandry The Greek Islands were wonderful ... and, as I was kayaking there, I noticed that I never saw a Grecian flag that wasn't flying in the wind. A windy place, challenging kayaking, but the most wonderful people in the world. Thanks for renewing my memories! |
| 17th November 2008 Travelher | Euro-hugger - From: Ionian Islandry I have to admit that I love the Euro Huggers. I just got back from a beach in Florida and I don't know what the point is of wearing boxers followed by 'shorts' that fall almost to your ankles! It's downright Puritan and I think the American look is completely ridiculous (I'm an American). Long live the Euro huggers and may they come back to America soon! |
| 16th November 2008 Terri Smiley | Ouzo and St. Nicolas - From: Ionian Islandry I miss my ouzo and orange juice! They don't serve it on the airlines here. Imagine that! I'll have to stock up for when you guys get to the east coast of the USA. Nico, you may not be a saint yet, but I continue to hear reliable reports that you are one stellar young man! Keep on taking good care of my girl, and you'll both stay at the top of my BEST list! Love, Mom aka MaMa T |
| 5th November 2008 Terri Smiley | The Un-fat Greek Family - From: My Big Fat Greek Family Or is it the Big Phat Greek family? All I can say is that I didn't see any particularly fat people in your family, Nico. And it's a wonder, given the fabulous food and pastries! Great pictures, too. I especially liked the one of Hannah towering above the yiayias "out for a walk with the ladies"...and all looking very stylish! You can be proud of ALL your women! |
| 4th November 2008 Marc | Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiico! - From: My Big Fat Greek Family Haha, I can still remember how your grandmother used to call out your name in her thick greek/italian/ethiopian accent. Tell yaya hello for me. |
| 30th October 2008 Do It Like The Locals | Response to above - From: Delusions and Ego Interesting comment above (not from a friend or family of ours). We been out in the evening in many cities, including Manhattan, Bangkok, even Mumbai. Hire a guide? We prefer the real experience where possible... just an opinion. |
| 30th October 2008 Gunjan | Its perception and the "preparation" done back home :) - From: Delusions and Ego You would not dare to go to a Manhattan alley alone after 7 in the evening, would you? Like all places (including the US of A), you do not, should not, try to be adventurous in certain regions of a country or city. You should have hired a "guide" (he would've "fleeced" you; in Indian rupees, which would still be pocket-change in American dollars) and seen Rajasthan with his help. |
| 23rd October 2008 Nicole | An amazing story! - From: Exploring our roots in Ethiopia Mary! I am so happy that you had the opportunity to celebrate your 5oth birthday with deer friends and family! Thank you for sharing this amazing adventure with us, going back to our roots it's a good way to find ourself deeply and appreciate ourself.... I read this message late (I don't know know why.) but sincerely... Happy Belated Birthday! |
| 22nd October 2008 Mary | Athens - From: Fast Food Sober Ramadan Dang it--you know I got a sudden need to take a bit of a trip and come meet up with you for a few days in Greece...and there you are. Maybe next time you take a world trip? I guess I should pay attention to your itinerary in the future. Hope you are having fun!!!! Maybe you are going to Paris? Ha ha...I crack myself up...that was for Hannah. ;) |

| 7th October 2008 Elias | thank you - From: Exploring our roots in Ethiopia I am an Ethiopian living in London and i just want to express my appreciation for your interest in Ethiopia, a poor but potentially rich country which unfortunately, and may be rightly suffers from bad image. But I found your story nonjudgmental well balanced unlike most travelers who are in the habit of making a mockery of other people's culture and misfortune! thanks for sharing your story any way! |
| 29th September 2008 Blair | Roughing it. - From: Historic Ethiopia Great story Nico as usual. I can't believe your mom is more capable of roughing it than your dad!! Mr. Big game hunter, fisherman, and all around tough guy and his sweet little wife is more adventurous!! Tell your dad he'll never live that one down here at work. |

| 28th September 2008 Terri Smiley | The feeling of Africa - From: Faces of Ethiopia Nico - Thanks for giving me a feel for Africa, through your words, the stories you share, and the photographs. I've always imagined Africa as someplace very foreign and strange, where I would feel completely out of place. Your photo essay has broadened my perspective, and now I, too, have a bit of the feeling your mom describes: "Can't you feel it? It's Africa!" Gotta love it! |
| 24th September 2008 Alanna | - From: Exploring our roots in Ethiopia Oh mann.....I have tears in my eyes after reading this entry. This was really moving and the fantastic pictures say it all as well. I still remember meeting Mary and Lakis in San Diego, along with Yaya and can never forget how unbelievably hospitable your family is. I just got back from trying Ethiopian cuisine for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's unlike anything I have eaten before but so tasty. The blogs are great and I will have to catch up on them again but I am so happy that the family was able to dig into the roots and heritage for it truly contributes to who you are. Also noticed that Peru is a potential future trip on your list. I am trying to book something in October/November timeframe for about 10 days so let me know if that coincides with your plans. Your journey is an inspiration to us all and I hope the messages you share will shed new light for readers who come across your words. |
| 22nd September 2008 Lee | What a Story! - From: Exploring our roots in Ethiopia Hey Mary: What a wonderful & touching story of your retracing your roots, and especially making personal contact with people who helped shape your early life. What a magical trip! Nico must be very proud of his parents, as well he should be. By the way, your 50th. birthday poem will be awaiting you return. Have a safe return home and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!...The Geezer |

| 20th September 2008 Terri Smiley | Family roots - From: Exploring our roots in Ethiopia Mary - Thank you so much for sharing your heart and your experiences renewing relationships, cherishing old memories, and making new memories in Ethiopia. I was moved to tears by your descriptions. You and Lakis' families have a truly remarkable history, and I so appreciate the opportunity to do some armchair traveling with you, and to learn more about your heritage. I can't imagine a better way for Hannah to gain an understandiing of her new family-to-be. What an awesome way to celebrate your 50th birthday (and Nico's too!)! I look forward to reading more about the rest of the trip, and to my opportunity to meet some of your family when I visit the kids in Greece next month. I am so thankful for the rich blessings and new horizons that Hannah and Nico's union has wrought. Sending hugs & love, Terri |

| 14th June 2008 Jann Mills | THANK YOU - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure Your compassion and complete devotion to both John and Leslie has softened this tragedy and truly helped with the heartbreak. I grew up with John in Aspen and was so pleased when he married Leslie. She is a pure person and it was no accident that you two were there to offer her so much at such a critical time. Words fail me here. Thank you could never be enough. You two should go to Virginia City, Montana and meet all of your new friends. |
| 14th June 2008 Jann Mills | Kindness of Strangers - From: Part II, Tragedy in Cambodia I grew up with John Morningstar. He was a close friend of my twin brother's since 4th grade. He was a kind, sensitive and delightful man and you couldn't help but completely adore him. I haven't seen John or Leslie since they came to my wedding in Virginia in 1985. I guess we got caught up in our owb busy lives. But this I know, his loss is easier knowing that complete strangers were there doing everything they could for both John and Leslie. It's appropriate that such a good man would have such genuine humanity at the end of his life on a hiking trail in a foreign country. Jann Mills |
| 13th June 2008 Tom Polachek | Star - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure Hannah and Nico: I'm a long time friend of Leslie and John's and cannot begin to express the graditude of his family and friends for your care and compassion. We all admire you beyond words Tom Polachek, Chicago |
| 13th June 2008 Dorwin | Wisdom by Grace - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure “God whose law is it that he who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despite, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.” Source: Aeschylus. Agamemnon (The Oresteia), 458 BCE I send along this sentiment to ease any feelings of sadness you may have from time to time for Star, Leslie, Annie & Madison. There is no question of your focus or determination as our friends began a transition that was to change many lives. 100% of the energy you spent for our friends will be returned to you as the balance in our lives is struck. I thought I had left most of my tears in Montana with the family & friends at the memorial service. But after reading this blog of your efforts with Star and Leslie the amount of tears I shed damn near shorted out this laptop. Remember to live this life like you stole it. Love Dorwin |
| 13th June 2008 Mary | Fun - From: Travel Errands in Bangkok You guys look like you are having so much fun! We are planning our trip back there for next April--hoping. Be safe and keep having fun!! And WOW on your experiences --I am so proud of your CPR skills and amazing heart! |

| 12th June 2008 abbi lee | Inspirational - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure People always talk about there being truely compassionate people left in the world, I think that there are only a few. We lost one with star, but found out that there were two more. I hope someday you can bring your travels to this part of the world. You will be greeted with open arms and endless stories of the man you worked so hard to save. |
| 12th June 2008 karen ryan | wish you'd look up my friend in Bangkok - From: Travel Errands in Bangkok Hi Guys, If still in Bangkok, please don't forget about Gary Haeger. | 10th June 2008 Annie & Jack | Gratitude from Star's friends in Virginia City - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure As already mentioned by our Montana friends, we would like to duplicated their gratitude and appreciation for all you did for Star and Leslie. We had a wonderful celebration of Star's life at one of his favorite places ~ their "orchard" in the beautiful Ruby Valley. People young and old, ranchers, judges, river guides, old/young hippies were all there in honor. The weather matched our emotions of the day...sunshine, rain, sleet and hail! Stories were told, tear were shed and hugs were shared. We are all blessed to have known Star and hope that someday you will find your way to Virginia City. God Bless p.s. We are always there for Leslie, Annie & Madison |
| 10th June 2008 carnaffan | life - From: Part II, Tragedy in Cambodia Having read your entry I can only say that you all made a monumental effort to save a life. The effort of trying is noble in itself and although Star died, your efforts were in no way futile. Life is never futile. |
| 9th June 2008 molly | John, Star - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure Hannah and Nico, I am John's sister and I want to thank you for all you tried to do for my brother and for Leslie. I know absolutely that Gos had you there at that time and place to do what you did. I will always be thankful to the two of you for all the help you gave Leslie. May God bless you in the rest of your travels, and know that I am praying for you. |
| 9th June 2008 Shelly Crickmer | Star will be missed - From: Part II, Tragedy in Cambodia I grew up in the Madison Valley near Virginia City (Ennis). Star and his family were very loved in our community and my heart just breaks for them. I can't believe he's gone. |
| 9th June 2008 DB | Temple Fever - From: The second largest city in Cambodia? Really? At Angkor Thom, Jane and I were standing by one of the main gate roads lined with statutes on both sides that are pulling on a snake. Our tour guide explained that one side of the road was lined with demons. I asked him "How can you tell which ones are demons?" He replyed in a heavy Cambodian accent, "Dehlen . . . iz easy . . . look for the round eyes - demon have a round eye, like you." No further questions. So show that demons can be good people will ya? ; ) |
| 9th June 2008 Rebecca Hamler | With love, great thanks, and more Faith than ever - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure Hello, Me name is Rebecca Hamler and I have grown up with Leslie's kids since birth. After I read this beautifully written account, it made me realize what you all had to go through in one of the most terrifying and unorganized places in the world. I am deeply touched by your compassion and strength you shared with our loved friend Leslie. In the past, I never knew what to believe about different religions or Gods, but you two have proved that there is a higher power watching out for all of us. I truly believe that you were sent by God to be there with Star and Leslie. You two are Angels walking amongst us. Thank you so much! Good luck with the rest of your travels and careers! |
| 9th June 2008 Marilee | compassion - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure When the news of Star's death reached us in Montana, a friend of mine said, "What will Leslie do, all alone over there?" My immediate reply was, "Someone with compassion will come forward to help her and be with her". Thank you for being those compassionate souls. You have gained a lot of friends in this corner of Montana for trying to save Star and helping dear Leslie during the ordeal and aftermath. You are shining examples of the best that mankind has to offer. Thank you Hannah and Nico. |
| 8th June 2008 Liana | wow - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure I'm so glad you could be there for Leslie and help her through this. I can't even imagine. I love you guys! "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." - Ghandi |

| 5th June 2008 Caren | Thanks Nico and Hannah - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure Dear Nico and Hannah, I'm here in Virginia City with Leslie and the kids now. We'll have the memorial celebration for Star on Saturday at his beloved apple orchard down the valley. I've know Star since we were 12 or 13 years old. He was an incredibly complex but thoroughly endearing guy. Thanks for all you did for him and for Leslie. Les and the kids are doing well. This will be a long process. Grief always is. Enjoy your trip. I know you'll never forget this experience and I also know it will bring lessons to you for years to come. Go well, Caren von Gontard Paonia, Colorado |

| 4th June 2008 helen porter | eternal gratitude - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure Dearest Nico and Hannah, I am Leslie's friend Porter here in Montana, And I want to thank you for all your help during Star's struggle and during the horrendous aftermath. You are two blessed people on this earth. I have been to the River of a Thousand Lingas twice; I was the one who really encouraged Les and Star to go to Cambo as it is a special place in my heart. I can picture the trail, the Cambodian crowd, the police (!) and all the chaos and frustration. You two hung in there for Leslie. You were her guardian angels. Leslie is surrounded with love. Star is shining in the heavens and will really be missed by his family and friends. He was an extraordianry man, like a brother to me. We will have a celebration of his life in his beloved orchard on Saturday. There are a lot of tears here in Montana, but there is also hope for the future. It is kind and compassionate people like you that make this life worth living everyday. Thank you so much. Thank you Thank you Thank you. Feel free to email me. I will pass all messages to Leslie; she doesn't use email very often, especially when she is in Virginia City. Peace be with you, Porter |
| 4th June 2008 Anne | Unique qualifications - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure what a blessing to find yourself uniquely qualified in two areas one wouldn't ordinarily combine -- CPR and event management -- and able to use them both so effectively to help Leslie. | 3rd June 2008 Nicole Beckstrand | What an amazing story! - From: Part III, Recovery: Compassion, Corruption, and Closure What am amazing story! You two must be blessed for the rest of your lives after that. I can't think of many people who would have stepped in in a similar situation and you "stepped in" so many times - from the first indication that CPR was needed up to the time you spent with Leslie. As someone who has lost two people close to them, both unexpectedly, I can just say that what you two did was such a blessing to Leslie and her family. I can't even imagine what situation she would have been facing if you two weren't there to shepherd her. Thank you for the story and for your actions. |

Although I have to say leave it out with the Mexican food man - it says "do it like the locals", not "do it like the locals in mexico". | 30th March 2008 Mom | Girlfriend's nephew! - From: Triple culture in Kuala Lumpur Outstanding that you connected with Peter. His aunt Karen Walker Ryan helped welcome Hannah into this world - in Missoula Montana some 29+ years ago. And we're girlfriends to this day. I wanna learn how to salsa...can I join you sometime? I don't care if I have to dance with girls! You're doing a fab job on the blog. I'm lovin' it. |
| 30th March 2008 Peter | Around the world in more than 80 days - From: Triple culture in Kuala Lumpur Great observations and photos! I like how you guys really pay attention to the details of travelling. The two of you together are a excellent mix of left and right brain, science and art. Overall that makes "poetry in motion". One slight correction on the "dance students" photo...The guy is Japanese who relocated to Malaysia and married a Chinese/Malaysian wife. His partner in the photo is Chinese/Malaysian. And of course that is the great thing about salsa. You don't need to be married to all the wonderful people you get to dance with! As for jealousy? No choice but to leave at the door. |
