| 30th July 2009 Terri | - From: The End: Back to Americana You have a lifetime to act on your travel-inspired convictions. They may occasionally feel lost in the hub-bub of Americana, floating lukewarm under the cold surface, but I'm confident that various situations along life's road will bring them to a simmer, and then boil forth with a passion that simply did NOT exist before this trip. The world is a better place with Nico and Hannah in it! |
| 30th July 2009 Nicole Beckstrand | Must publish a book! - From: The End: Back to Americana You are still going to publish a book, right??;-) Great blog. Thank you so much for inviting me to read along with your adventures!! |
| 30th July 2009 anna kohler | thank you! - From: The End: Back to Americana Dear Hannah and Nico I would like to thank you very much for your travel blogs during more than one year! We met in march 2008 at Ban Krut in Thailand, perhaps you remember me, the woman from Switzerland. It was very interesting me to follow your travel and often I was very touched by your reports. Sometimes reading them it was for me a little bit like I would travel I myself. You also told from countries I've been also before, and I remembered things I've lived there. I hope you can accommodate again in "normal" live, and I think, the whole live is a travel, also a inner travel. I wish you the best for your future, and hope to hear from you again! You are always welcome in Switzerland! Anna |

| 15th June 2009 Alan | Petra - From: Caught between a rock, a dead sea, and a hard to find work place! These pictures are awesome, I'm going to Petra in a couple weeks and I hope my pictures are as good as yours. By the way, it was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade that was filmed in Petra. |
| 25th May 2009 Terri Smiley | Montana in my bones - From: Closing the circle in Montana I not only wear Montana under my skin -- the landscape is in my bones. Transplanted temporarily to the lush state of Pennsylvania, my heart often yearns for the wide open spaces, spectacular mountain views, and dry western air. Thank you, Nico, for capturing Hannah's re-entry experience to Montana as an adult. As long as we have property and a home in Montana, it is your home also. Love, Mom |
| 22nd May 2009 Do It Like The Locals | Laughing through tears - From: Closing the circle in Montana A note from a close friend: " Nico's narrative and the gorgeous photos perfectly capture the ambivalence that native Montanans....those who "get out and make it"....all wear just under their skin. And, as you see from Nico's description of Virginia City, "it" rubs off on those who love us. Are we of two minds about our native home? Or of two hearts? Or is it a split between the rational mind that is chagrined by the smallness of the parochial culture and the heart that opens to the generous warmth of the people. And then plunk it all down in the most gorgeous places. No wonder we are all psychotic! Here's a warning: it only gets harder as you get older. " |

| 26th February 2009 Mary (mom) | A Bolivian Safari - From: A Bolivian Safari: The most diverse terrain per square mile in the world The Land Cruiser reminded me of our Ethiopian safari. Coincidentally, the Bolivian flag has the same colors as the Ethiopian, only reversed (Green, Yellow, Red) and with a star in the middle. Check it out: http://www.ethioworld.com/CountryInformation/ethiopianflag.htm Wow, those photos are awesome! Keep having fun! Love you. Mary |

| 17th February 2009 Terri Smiley | Editorial comment: political unrest in Bolivia in September - From: Argentina: Cordoba Culture, Iguazu Falls, and a Castle in Salta An editorial comment regarding our experience in Bolivia in September 2008: I'm not sure that the American Embassy was "attacked", but the American Ambassador was kicked out of Bolivia and the State Department was removing our Peace Corps contingent, many of whom showed up at our hotel in Tarija, Bolivia where we doing a Habitat build. Tarija was blockaded and the airport was closed for several days running, but it was more of a peaceful protest by students and the middle class, and there was NO violence against Americans. We just all thought it best to take up our Habitat hosts' offer to leave the country via a private bus and go south into Argentina. Hence we arrived at the Castillo de San Lorenzo, credit cards in hand, and had a thoroughly enjoyable introduction to Argentina. |
| 17th February 2009 Terri Smiley | Get the DVD "The Mission" - From: Argentina: Cordoba Culture, Iguazu Falls, and a Castle in Salta This note is for all Hannah and Nico's friends who are reading the blog: rent the movie "The Mission" and you'll get a great story of the Jesuits and a mission they began in the mid-1700's at Iguazu Falls. The indigenous people in the movie are just that - NOT actors. The scenery and the story is fascinating...a chapter in history that many people don't know about. I was so enthralled that I also watched the DVD commentary. |
| 17th February 2009 Theresa | Hello - From: Argentina: Cordoba Culture, Iguazu Falls, and a Castle in Salta Hey Hannah and Nico, I was just thinking of your two and wondering where you were. Hope you are being enriched in how amazing this world is, and the different people that call the lands you visit, their "home" May God's love, consume you, Hugs, T |

I'm so excited that we'll be seeing you guys again soon, but I can't imagine how it must feel to come back (sad?) after traveling around the WORLD. I'm sure someone already suggested this, but you guys should make a book out of your blog. And maybe a series of slideshow parties?! Have a blast in South America!! |
| 27th January 2009 Terri Smiley | Post-surgery tango!! - From: Bienvenidos a las Americas Great pics from Argentina and Uruguay. | 19th January 2009 Erik Cockrell | Wanderlust in our blood... - From: Itinerary Hey Hannah! This is your long-lost cousin Erik from Austin, TX. Oma told me about your website - wanderlust is in the Cockrell/Wilner blood!!!! Since we last saw each other at the family reunion in Texas, I have been able to visit Russia, China, Hong Kong and India. It's amazing how my viewpoint about America and my gratitude for the quality of life I have shifts dramatically after traveling abroad. I would love to meet your fiancee sometime! I got divorced 3 years ago and am now getting remarried to an amazing woman named Theresa on April 4, 2009. I now have 2 kids (Jordan - boy - 9 and Autumn - girl - 6). Theresa has Nicole - girl - 6. I have never been happier. Austin is great place to live compared to anywhere else I have been. Please know you all have a place to stay here anytime! Love, Erik (and Tabatha - my cat that you met in D.C. long ago!) |

| 6th January 2009 Mary | Bad Timing?! - From: Caught between a rock, a dead sea, and a hard to find work place! I would argue and say it was perfect timing that you guys got out of the region before the bombing started.... Phew, glad to see you in South America. Love, Mom |
| 31st December 2008 Mary | Biking... - From: Sweet and Sour Holy Land Ah yes...Hannah and her biking ideas while traveling. Did she also say "Map, schmap...we'll figure it out"? It seems vaguely familiar. ;) |
| 20th December 2008 Anne Clark | Beautiful timing for your visit & message - From: Sweet and Sour Holy Land What a beautiful message at a wonderful time. Love to you both, and such a wonder that you have come to these understandings at such an early age. Where will it lead you! |
| 17th December 2008 Anne | Chef extraordinaire! - From: Cyprus Souvlaki I'm amazed that you could find the ingredients for an American-style Thanksgiving dinner, and cook them in a kitchen that probably is not terribly traditional! Bravo! But I want to try your souvlaki! I'm turkeyed out! |
| 16th December 2008 Mary | Cyprus Souvlaki - From: Cyprus Souvlaki Wow, the Cypriot souvlaki looks delicious! Hope you can make it for us when you get back. Hannah, the Thanksgiving dinner looked excquisite! What a great way to introduce the family to one of the most meaningful holidays celebrated in the States. Love, love, love. Mom |
| 3rd December 2008 DB | Please come back - From: Banking with the Brooks in the land of chocolate watches This is Darren and Jane - let me say to anyone that has Nico and Hannah come visit them, that you are in for a treat. They are the best house guests and we enjoyed every minute with them. I'm sure Nico's family in Greece did not want to let them go. Neither did we! We all had a blast, even little Nugs. PS - Nugs is short for Nugget, which was Matthew's "official" name prior to being born - looks like it is a name that has stuck! Have fun in Cypress! |
| 2nd December 2008 Mary | Oh...Italy! - From: Milan Photo Highlights I miss Italy. Hope you are having fun! And of course speaking all the Italian you learned during your semester in Rome. ;) |

| 19th November 2008 Do It Like The Locals | Response to above - From: Triple culture in Kuala Lumpur I don't think we described the Malay as the least populous in Malaysia, nor do we have anything against them or any of the groups. On the contrary, the diversity of the culture in Malaysia is one of the things we appreciate most about the country. |
| 19th November 2008 Decepticon | - From: Triple culture in Kuala Lumpur "KL (like the rest of Malaysia) is characterized by three main cultures and their religions: the Chinese Bhuddist or Taoist, the Indian Hindus, and the Malay Muslims. Seems like you describe the Malay is the least populous people in Malaysia, or you may have issue with them. I think it's better be corrected. |
| 17th November 2008 Anne Clark | You renew good memories - From: Ionian Islandry The Greek Islands were wonderful ... and, as I was kayaking there, I noticed that I never saw a Grecian flag that wasn't flying in the wind. A windy place, challenging kayaking, but the most wonderful people in the world. Thanks for renewing my memories! |
