Letting it all hang out in Rio the road home.

Leaving Puerto Igauzu behind in torrential rain we embraced our seats for the next 24 hours. It was a normal semi cama bus that didnt fully recline but just enough to try to catch a few zs. Some of the people on the bus had already come from Buenos Aires and were going all the way to Rio thats 40 hours. Crazy stuff. The usual movies were shown most of the way which can sometimes be of b

Falling for Iguazu.

From Buenos Aires we had no choice but to do a long bus journey north to see Iguazu Falls. The flights were mad expensive and way out of our budget. We had spent just one month in Argentina and didnt want to stop off along the way to Puerto Iguazu. So a 17 hour bus was what we opted for. But before you feel sorry for us dont. This was a first class bus just like first class on a plane. The

Its like a different country....

We sailed off to Uruguay inbetween our visit to Buenos Aires. We had to sail first class as all the other cheaper tickets were booked up. Who were these organised people And why were they always travelling ahead of us booking things up It wasnt much in the difference between the two anyway but there is a cheaper alternative to the Burque Bus boat which is an over night boat. But we were ad

They do it in the streets....the tango that is.

We left Rosario early in the morning for a nice easy 4 hour bus journey. A novelty bus journey compared to what was ahead of us. We were about an hour away when we reached the outskirts of Buenos Aires. And it was looking like this city was going to be a mammoth one. There was no way we were going to try and walk from the bus station to the hostel. My poor legs just cramped at the thought of it.

We didn39t really know too much about la Rioja all we did know was that we didn39t want to spend another 8 hours on that bus from salta. So we were happy to stop for a night here. Only one hostel in the town so it saved us a whole load of time. We arrived during siesta so it was a tad quiet. Then in usual argentinean tradition a protest started great. Just as we settled into a snugly sies

La Quiaca where tumbleweed was created.

So we set foot off our cosy 14 hour train journey onto a very cold platform in Villazon. And got a taxi to the border where the taxi guy tried to entice us to stay with some famous Bolivian music. Sorry mate we gots plans in La Quiaca well not really we never do but we were both looking forward to sea level happiness in Argentina. Although we were still at altitude but nothing like Arequipa Cus

Bolivia

Left Puno early in the morning and had a unbelievably chilled boarder crossing at Kasani to get to Bolivia. Nothing like what we thought it would be a nice relief though. We were heading to Copacabana in hope of some nice chill out time and a quieter spot on Lake Titicaca. Most of the bus were La Paz bound which is another 3 more hours. We were greeted in Copacabana main street by small cafe mode

Machu Picchu

Felt like Christmas morning getting up mad early all exciting like a four year old expecting the best present ever. Never seen John spring out of bed that early. Pitch dark at that hour and with mountains all the way around Machu Picchu town it just added to the darkness. Already there was a massive queue of other four year olds up earlier than us and in line earlier. Although its quite organised

The road to Machu Picchu

So were on our bus with the rest of the group. Our tour to machu picchu consisted if a guided tour to pisac olataytambo and the sacred valley before leaving the group who would head back to cusco and we would catch our train to Agnes calientes. Stay the night there and get up for sunrise to Mp. It all sounded great and all in Spanish. Our guide ploughed into full on info about pisac and well who

Cusco.

CuscoSo just to treat ourselves after yet another long tiring bus journey we booked one night in a hotel. A hotel that had a bathroom comfy bed and hot water. Well we did punish ourselves some more by walking at 6 in the morning from the bus station to the centre for about an hour. Got to sleep central and that39s what we did when we checked in. Cusco looked beautiful but would have to wait

Starlight express to San pedro.San pedro was 5 hours by bus away from antofagasta. What a journey stunning scenery all the way there. The bus stopped half way. For what particular reason I39m not sure but where we stopped seemed quite high and maybe the driver needed a cigarette. When we got out we could see why there was snow on the road. Snow on the way to the driest desert in the world

La serena to Arica. An emotional 8 hour journey to la serena. As before we set out in the station a little boy was in tears and so were his family. He was travelling with his sister and was completely inconsolable leaving his family. For whatever reason we39ll never know so you naturally assume the worst and fell his pain. I had to turn on my iPod so I too wouldn39t be blubbing all the way to

3 hours in a bus and we landed in valpariso. Easy. No accommodation booked but we set off in a direction looking for digs. Set our bags down in an ok place and headed off in search of the bohemian town that is valpariso. Desperate to find it we walked for hours and reread the rough guide map. Until we eventually decided to walk uphill and there it was conception hill. Knocked on a hostel door an

So here it was our last leg of our trip south America. Got ourselves on a bus and into town now all we had to do was figure out which way our hostel was. We were dazed and confused after spending the last 24 hours awake the dazed part and reliving Saturday the 23rd all over again confused. We had to ask fir directions in our comedy spanish and were relived to learn that the chilean people ar

Arrived into Napier and we were straight onto the beach. Looking out into the horizon next stop chile. Another week and we would be there. So this was where the sun was hiding we didn39t plan to stay in Napier but took the sun as a sign to stay. Walked around the town and took in some art deco buildings. While enjoying the sun some more with a walk along the beach. Clocked up some more beers

There was post and batton fencing to be done chopping up logs leaves to be raked drains to be unclogged and the veg patch needed to be dug and weeded. I totally forgot that I had 2 of the shiniest apples ever in my bag. And that39s a big no no.
Sydney. Scene of the crime some would say. I39d say it39s one of the best cities in the world for romantic soppy reasons yes but it is an amazing city. You could spend serious amounts of time here and never get bored of it. For such a big city it39s very diverse and welcoming. High rises but with parks a harbour and a beautiful skyline from both sides of the bridge. We couldn39t wa
