Left it all behind us for a while to go travel, explore and see how many different beers we can have along the way. Were at 26 beers so far, not bad for flashpackers.

Our route; India, Nepal, Thailand (bangkok), Vietnam, laos, Thailand (north), cambodia, Thailand (south and islands), Singapore, cairns, gold coast, Sydney, new Zealand, chile, Peru, brazil, Argentina and anywhere else we cam squeeze in and avoid going home.

Leaving Puerto Igauzu behind in torrential rain we embraced our seats for the next 24 hours. It was a normal semi cama bus, that didn’t fully recline but just enough to try to catch a few z’s. Some of the people on the bus had already come from Buenos Aires and were going all the way to Rio, that’s 40 hours. Crazy stuff. The usual movies were shown most of the way which can sometimes be of benefit as most of them would put you to sleep anyway. It wasn’t a bad journey and when we got to Rio it really didn’t seem that bad that we then had to endure another 3 hours on a bus to Buzios. We were surprisingly perky but there is always a slight buzz knowing you’ve conquered a massive journey ... read more

From Buenos Aires we had no choice but to do a long bus journey north to see Iguazu Falls. The flights were mad expensive and way out of our budget. We had spent just one month in Argentina and didn’t want to stop off along the way to Puerto Iguazu. So a 17 hour bus was what we opted for. But before you feel sorry for us, don’t. This was a first class bus just like first class on a plane. The service was amazing. Fully reclining seats/beds. Champagne avec Strawberry (mange tout, Rodney, mange tout) and the courses/drinks that followed were non stop amazing. Our dinner was basically a roast beef dinner with all the veg plus treats you wanted. My wine was topped up and so was John’s whiskey. It was great. We actually ... read more

We sailed off to Uruguay in-between our visit to Buenos Aires. We had to sail first class as all the other, cheaper tickets were booked up. Who were these organised people? And why were they always travelling ahead of us booking things up? It wasn’t much in the difference between the two anyway but there is a cheaper alternative to the Burque Bus boat, which is an over night boat. But we were advised that it’s not the safest bet on the water and so we didn’t really have much of a choice. It would’ve been a shame to miss out on Uruguay being so close to Argentina; it’s only an hour away from Buenos Aires. So we had to go, plus another few stamps on our passports how could we refuse. So champagne in hand ... read more

We left Rosario early in the morning for a nice & easy 4 hour bus journey. A novelty bus journey compared to what was ahead of us. We were about an hour away when we reached the outskirts of Buenos Aires. And it was looking like this city was going to be a mammoth one. There was no way we were going to try and walk from the bus station to the hostel. My poor legs just cramped at the thought of it. So we splashed out on a cab and our backs were thankful for it. 20 minutes later we were in San Telmo and in our hostel. More like an Ikea budget hotel. Oh how I miss Ikea. Everything was bright colours and plastic. I don’t know why certain hostels even from the outside ... read more

We didn't really know too much about la Rioja, all we did know was that we didn't want to spend another 8 hours on that bus from salta. So we were happy to stop for a night here. Only one hostel in the town so it saved us a whole load of time. We arrived during siesta so it was a tad quiet. Then in usual argentinean tradition a protest started, great. Just as we settled into a snugly, siesta time snooze there was fireworks, bangers, car horns going nuts and el chanto. Every place we've gone to so far in argentina there's been some sort of protest. They don't take no crap over here that's for sure. This was a small enough town but man can they make noise. Turned out there was a festival ... read more

So were on our bus with the rest of the group. Our tour to machu picchu consisted if a guided tour to pisac, olataytambo and the sacred valley before leaving the group who would head back to cusco and we would catch our train to Agnes calientes. Stay the night there and get up for sunrise to Mp. It all sounded great and all in Spanish. Our guide ploughed into full on info about pisac and well who knows. We must of had that 'que??' look on our faces as he shuffled up to us and asked if we spoke Spanish. He spoke English perfectly so we were in luck but there were still some lost in translation moments when he would talk in Spanish, at length, they would all laugh and our translation would be ... read more

So we set foot off our cosy 14 hour train journey onto a very cold platform in Villazon. And got a taxi to the border where the taxi guy tried to entice us to stay with some famous Bolivian music. Sorry mate we gots plans in La Quiaca, well not really we never do but we were both looking forward to sea level happiness in Argentina. Although we were still at altitude but nothing like Arequipa & Cusco. So we made our way through immigration and it was all a little too easy we were sure we did something wrong and that someone would come running after us. It was so lax, no bag checks and no questions asked. Strange. But we were happy that it took all of 2 minutes and we went in search ... read more

Left Puno early in the morning and had a unbelievably chilled boarder crossing at Kasani to get to Bolivia. Nothing like what we thought it would be a nice relief though. We were heading to Copacabana in hope of some nice chill out time and a quieter spot on Lake Titicaca. Most of the bus were La Paz bound which is another 3 more hours. We were greeted in Copacabana main street by small cafe, modest hostel & hotels and overall a nice vibe. We set off to find cheap & safe digs and were successful. Our room was for nothing and had a great view of the lake. It would take all of 20 minutes to explore this little town and we were happy with that. Both still a little run down since Puno and ... read more

Cusco So just to treat ourselves after yet another long, tiring bus journey we booked one night in a hotel. A hotel, that had a bathroom, comfy bed and hot water. Well we did punish ourselves some more by walking at 6 in the morning from the bus station to the centre, for about an hour. Got to sleep central and that's what we did when we checked in. Cusco looked beautiful but would have to wait until we got some shut eye. We were on ruinas street and very near to plaza de armes. Had some lunch in jack's cafe, very tasty food and so popular we had to cue to get in. But we got to check out the small cobbled surrounding streets. There was a really nice vibe to cusco do far. From ... read more

Arequipa and the colca canyon.  From Arica the journey is by bus across the boarder into peru and through to tacna, Peru. A nice and easy boarder crossing. From tacna we booked our bus to Arequipa, meaning we had to hang around the bus station for about an hour. Then the bus stopped about 12 times along the way to pick people up, drop them off at random places and for women to come on the bus and sell all sorts of food, mainly sugary, powdery cakes. We got to Arequipa tired and hungry (we didn't go for the cakes) plus it was late in the day too. And we discovered that our room that we had booked was still occupied by someone who was ill. Which meant we got a dodgy room next to the ... read more
