Dive Safari

We are a pair of diving instructors who packed our bags several years ago to go in search of the world's finest diving locations. Travelling through Central America, the Middle East and the South Pacific we are now currently based in South East Asia. Dive Safari Asia is our travel company, we invite others to join us as we search for the regions finest diving.

Here's a little more about who we are and what we do.

The 2008 tour season kicks off in June with frontier diving in North Sumatra, the second leg of this trip takes us to the jungle of the Gunung Leuser National Park to see Oran Utans in their natural habitat. Later this year we also have tours to North Sulawesi for some spectacular wall diving in Bunaken then moving to Lembeh for some truly world class muck diving. Other destinations include West Thailand, Similan Islands and Peninsular Malaysia for training programs.

All the infomation you need is on our website www.divesafariasia.com, however we are always happy to answer questions about diving in Asia should you have any - just ask! We like to keep things simple so booking and payment can all be made online, all completed in a matter of minutes. We are registered in the UK so you can be assured of all the protection you need when it comes to booking holidays online!

The entries we post on Travelblog can also be found in the Community area of our website with addtional photos and other stories of diving Asia so be sure to check it out. Unlike many other travel operators and just like you we prefer to be 'out in the field' to experience, inspire and understand!

Earlier this month we embarked on a trip through North Sumatra, joined by DIVE magazines reporter Charlotte Boan. Our eleven day tour started in the inland jungle of Bukit Lawang, from there we made our way to Pulau Weh island in the north .Our intention was to promote North Sumatra as a tourist destination through Dive Safari Asia, particularly Pulau Weh and Bukit Lawang which have in recent years had their tourist industry threatened. Both destinations have a lot to offer and tourism is at its most earliest of stages, for those willing the rewards are real and exciting, this is what we hoped would come across from our visit. As soon as our faces broke the surface at Battee Gla dive site we knew we would all be in for an impressive five days of ... read more

We moved on last week, the Similans diving season came to an end, at least the calm waters anyway, so we joined the exodus of divers to the East coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The journey on the whole went pretty well, being familiar with Malaysian buses which generally make National Express coaches look like cattle wagons we thought the journey would be fairly straight forward, the last trip we made was full size, has only one arm chair seat on either side, TV screen and a huge choice of movies. I was almost excited about our trip across the country to Kota Bharu on the east coast. Unfortunately by the time we reached K.L it was Friday night and all buses were full, luckily we met a happy go lucky tout who issued us with an ... read more

I think we fell into the same trap as everybody else when Paul first asked us if we wanted to make a dive on Boonsung Wreck, this being the first time we had heard of it. While the Similans and other surrounding sites are constantly featured in write ups from magazines and reef guides, Boonsung has remained something of a mystery, except from the local guides who work here and know better. Located just a few kilometers offshore it’s simply a case of loading up the longtail, picking up some rice and curry for lunch and then heading out for the twenty minute ride to the site. Not ones for ‘mass organisation’ before diving trips Sarah and I were quickly sold and as the engine of the longtail fired up we started to get the feeling ... read more

We’d been on dry land for about a week before we started to twiddle our fingers and conjure up imaginative ways for getting one of the local operators to allow us one their free spaces, only encouraged by the recent Whale Shark sightings at Richelieu Rock. The Similan and Surin Islands are 70Km’s offshore and a liveaboard (or sleepover boat) is usually the norm so we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. However in true Sarah style and her gift of the gab she managed to bag a place in a matter of hours. Luckily it only took another 24 hrs before I had my place and being four days and four nights it meant we would be spending plenty of time in the north, where the big fish are normally found. Of course this ... read more
