HWB 2/2 ACR - From: Bamberg, Germany & Surrounding Areas
I too was stationed in Bamberg Germany with Howitzer Battery 2/2 ACR from 1985 to 1987. I remember SGT Manville who posted January 26th, 2009. Bamberg was an absolute beautiful area to be stationed at. I remember the Hills of Bamberg, the river in Bamberg, the many bridges, the stone cobbled streets and walkways, just a life and ambience of the city of itself that no one in America can even imagine. Best times had in Bamberg was when Sgt Chin (Chinchitlertt) bought his BMW and we'd go explore every corner of Bamberg. To Manville, I was MSGT Reids Driver and then 1st Sgt Yarboroughs driver when he came along. If you remember me too, Nice to say HI!

Yes, the best time of my life(so far) was spending 18 months in Bamberg. Remebering running to the dome after a night at The Zwiebel. Eating the wursts from the wagons and of course Graf, Hoens, and Wildchicken training areas. Got to travel Spain, France, Italy, Greece, GB, and all of this beautiful country. Will visit next year and can't wait to have an EKU Hefeweizen......Tchuss exactly "ALPHA GATORS ABOVE THE REST"

I was in Bamburg in1982 to 1985. What a great place to live!! If I ever got the chance to go back I would!! My husband was stationed with the 82nd airborn and was supply sarg. for 3 years while we were there. You must visit Appendorlf[ right outside of Bamburg] if you get the chance. The people were nice and were willing to help a mother of two who was new to the country with the langure barrier and all the new ways !!! Love the place and would go back if given the chance!!! barracks? - From: Bamberg, Germany & Surrounding Areas
My son is about to go to Bamberg with the 173rd. I have seen some pictures online and found this site - can anyone tell me about the accommodations for a PFC with the 173rd Airborne? Barracks, I assume, but the Army advertises 4-man apartment-style living now (March 2009) so perhaps????

Beautiful Bamberg!! - From: Bamberg, Germany & Surrounding Areas
I was stationed in Bamberg with my wife Gloria from 1986 - 1989 in HWB 2/2 ACR. Loved the place. So beautiful and rich in history. We made lots of friends and my son Phillip Jr. was born in Nuernburg in 1987 while we were there. He was too young to remember, but we would love to show him where he was born one day. If anyone sees this and recognizes us please write, we'd love to hear from you. Phil, Gloria & Phillip Manville

I found these pictures when I was helping my 10 yr old daughter who was born in Wuerzburg work on her Christmas traditions project for school. I lived there 7 years (1995-2002) and would have liked to stay there forever. We were in Wuerzburg last Christmas (Dec 2007) and will be there again this summer. Memmelsdorf Residents/Bamberg 68,69 - From: Bamberg, Germany & Surrounding Areas
I was stationed in Bamberg 1st 54th. 68-69. A US. Brought My Wife Pam over, Lived in a wonderful house in Memmelsdorf. Had a 1960 VW. Loved the town. Have not been back but want to return soon. Remember the Glider rides across the plaza from the barracks. Chez invasion, great Knockwurst, warm beer, old town, 1 Mark=25 cents, 4 day admin leaves to Garmisch, 4am walk from Memmelsdorf to KP. More warm beer, xmas village ceremony with tree parade, bike paths along roads, community gardens, not many local males my father's age, It was much better then the alternative for an alread married draftee.

HHB 2/78 FA, 1st Armored Division - From: Bamberg, Germany & Surrounding Areas
Bamberg, my first duty station in military service. I could not have asked for a better location to be stationed, I feel quite blessed to have Bamberg as a part of my life ('78-'81). The beauty of the city and the warmth of the people are testament to the enduring legacy to the place that I knew as my "Home Away From Home". Years later in San Antonio I would cross paths with an angel from Bamberg named Silka (where are you now?). Kudos to this website for the wonderful presentation. Love & hugs to the people of Bamberg. A deep heart felt apprieciation to those who share this memory with me and to those who served before, after and continue this memory. To those young men & women who also find themselves stationed in Bamberg for the first time: enjoy it, take the time to actually live it as there is not a better place to be. Should I sign off with "over" or "out"??? I select "over" as this is a continuing conversation & would love to hear more comments. Over

I cant believe they did that! - From: Auschwitz - Birkenau Concentration Camps
Breeann-Its just evil how one human being could treat another they way they did. Honestly i didnt really care to know about it until my english teacher read The Dairy of Ann Frank to us. Its horrible i hope i would have never done any of that to anyone. IOts really hard to think that someone would like to see someone in agonizing pain and they being the ones who did it to them didnt any of the guards at least try to help in anyway?

Like many others- I too was stationed in Bamberg in the '80's. I had been in Crailsheim for only 6 months when they moved my unit to Bamberg. During my time there I had an apartment on Kunigundenruh Strasse- directly across from the "Green Goose". Our close proximity to the bar wasn't good for a young married couple. Anyhowwwwwww.........I really enjoyed my time in Stadt Bamberg. I've been back but would love to come visit and tour the city with my family now. Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. Tchuss!

Am so enjoying your travels! - From: Winter Wonderland
Have you ever visited the Himmerod Abtei? Kind of wanting some info. There's a cemetary adjacent to it. Small with an outbuilding (probably a keeper of it). The deaths dates are all within same time. Individuals all same approx. age. Am wondering if you get over there if you would find out more about it. Am assuming a WW2 site. It has haunted me since I was there in 1990's. No search on the internet has revealed it. (There is a cemetary for the Himmerod itself, but this isn't "monks", etc. burial ground.) Thanx..your site is bookmarked as it is such an enjoyment for me.

Next time you visit Garmisch you may want to stay at the other Hotel Edelweiss, much quainter and within a few minutes walk of the walking zone and the old Garmisch which many tourists miss. The web site is: www.hoteledelweiss.de Nearby is the Braustueberl, an old brewery and local restaurant that has been there for a long time. Less touristy, but worth a visit. I love your photographs. They brought back many wonderful memories for me as I used to live in the area back in the 1970's. I've seen all of King Ludwig's castles and have always been completely fascinated by the man. I like to think he was more eccentric than insane. Ludwig was also the great benefactor of Richard Wagner without whom, the composer may never have been able to achieve the recognition he did. Two beautiful cities to visit, Berchtesgaden and Freiburg im Briesgau. Happy travels.
