This morning I woke up a 26 year old man, lying on the floor of an outhouse near the Clark Fork River in Tareko, Montana. To some people this may seem like a revolting way to begin a birthday and a low point of life, but I was actually quite thankful for my stinky, but dry little shelter. On the day prior I had climbed up from the St. Joe river in Idaho over the Bitteroot Mountains to an unknown elevation. The sky was darkening and grumbling as I reached the summit, where I met Montana at a gravel road. I [View Full Entry]

A few days after school let out in June of 2004, Justin Arnahlt and I began a bike trip to Alaska from our front porch in Portland, Oregon. We rode up the east side of the Olympic Peninsula and then up the coast through Bellingham to Vancouver. In B.C., we took the Sea to Sky Highway and then rode through central B.C. to Prince George. From there it was east to the beginning of the Cassiar Highway, which we took north into the Yukon. After riding on a severely bent axle for four days, we made it to the junction with [View Full Entry]

Possibly the most beautiful and tranquil place I've ever been and definitely the kindest and gentlest people I have ever met, Laos was nothing short of amazing at every step. Jan 22 2003 Ramblin around old Indochine, looking and feeling in wonder, taking it all in, sucking it up through the bendy-top rainbow-striped straw of my soul. Too much to say in symbols, too much to experience beyond my reactive thoughts and emotions. One in six billion, one in the infinity of the universe. Nothing. Nothing but the overimportance I give to my own beingness, as if it were mine, as [View Full Entry]

After returning from the remote jungles of northern Cambodia, thinking I was going to die, I arrived in Siem Reap and got some antibiotics to finally kick my recurring Ghiardia. Spent Three Days Exploring the Temples of Angkor Wat. These are only a handful of the Photos. [View Full Entry]

This is part one of Cambodia. I arrived in Cambodia with a friend a few days after christmas. The travel companion did not work out and I was on my own again. I spent a lot of time talking with young monks almost everywhere I went. I ended up getting sick after my night with the Cambodian Army. Travel was extremely uncomfortable and every where you went you were harassed by touts. Luckily I witnessed no violence and most people were extremely kind. After the first adobe building project, I attended a meditation retreat in Southern Thailand. I then headed back up to the Northeast and helped with another building project. After that I spent christmas on an island in the gulf of Thailand with some friends before heading to Cambodia. Nov 26 2002 Hello everyone, Well I’m still alive and breathing thinking feeling here on planet earth. I’m in transit from the building project to the Cambodian border and onto a meditation retreat in southern Thailand. I’m too sick to write more. I believe I’m experienci [View Full Entry]

After my beach vacation in the south, I met up with an organic farmer named jo. I had planned to work on his farm, but instead volunteered with him, working on various adobe building projects. The first was in Chaiyaphum province in the northeast. We were building an entire village for a group of farmers who had been displaced from their land by a government dam. So I made it to Malaysia after my month of roaming the south and watching my bowels change their consistency [View Full Entry]

In the fall of 2002 I flew from San Francisco to Bangkok, where I spent 5 months wandering around and being an idiot. I spent time in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. The most worthwhile thing I did while there was help different groups of people build adobe buildings, giving me the chance to get off the tourist trail and into remote regions where I could have real interactions with the natives. Other highlights included getting sick, puting myself in danger, and exploring Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Also, everything about Laos was delightful, despite witnessing the destruction caused by America's bo [View Full Entry]

This is the first of my installation of old travel blogs, before I blogged. I am posting all the emails I sent and the best of my digital photography(I got my digital camera while in Big Sur). The writing is bad, but I hope, at least it is interesting. In the spring of 2002 I biked down the Pacific Coast from Portland to Big Sur, where I worked for 5 months. I did the ride in four weeks, with a week spent in San Francisco. I took the MAX from downtown Portland to Hilsboro, Pedaled Rte. 6 to Tilamook, then rode [View Full Entry]
