This is a trip report for my trip down to the ECR, or East Coast Rally. This is a small get together of Sportster riders form some of the various Sportster related lists or web groups. This trip I took my newly acquired 2001 Sportster Sport or XL1200S. I had picked the bike up used a couple of months before. This was its first long trip. The bike barely had 2000 miles on it when I got it. I would almost double that mileage in one long weekend. Complete photographs are here: Photos Well, I left my place Wednesday afternoon at about 3 PM, I took the Garden State Parkway south in order to take the Cape May ferry over to Lewes Delaware. I had to stop once for gas around Atlantic City and I ran ... read more
8,252 miles, 2 oceans, 23 states 13 days of riding with an average of 600 miles a day with the last day being 1003 miles in 18 hours. Chapter I, "Three states a day" On Saturday morning I left The Asbury Park area and headed south on the Garden State Parkway to meet the NJ and PA gang from the XL Forum for lunch on the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ. It turned out to be a great day even though rain was called for. After having a decent cheesesteak at Hot Spots, I headed south to take the Cape May Ferry to Delaware. Taking the ferry is always a great way to break up a long trip by covering some ground without actually riding. It's also a lot more scenic than riding I-95. Once in ... read more
Coast to Coast ‘07 Well it’s taken me long enough to get this trip report out, but I‘ve been busier than a one-legged cat trying to bury a turd… The photos for this trip are located here. Photos As some of you know this is my second NJ to CA trip on the Sportster. I’ve also ridden the bike on other long trips to Wyoming (twice), Kansas and N.C. all from NJ. Now I work from home so I don’t get to put on a lot of miles on my bike unless I take trips like this. The first time you take a long trip on a motorcycle you tend to doubt your ability or worry about breaking down and the like. But after that first trip you can’t wait for the next one. Many of ... read more
Coast to Coast ‘08 This trip was dedicated to my friend Cory Moran who passed away at the end of 2007. We always talked about doing a cross country trip together. He rode a Sportster and later a Dyna Wide Glide and was a member of the Pokers MC. RIP Cory. For those of you that are counting this is my third New Jersey to California trip. The first two trips were on my 2003 XL1200C but this year I picked up another bike and wanted to see how this one measured up to the Sportster for touring. Photos of the trip with captions can be seen here. Photos My new bike is a 2001 Dyna Super Glide T-Sport or FXDXT. The same bike as the Dyna Super Glide Sport (FXDX) but with a fairing and ... read more
