Today is going to be our big spa day. We debated between the spa 500 yards from our hotel, and the Elizabeth. We decided to go to Elizabeth because they had a salt cave (whatever that is, but I wanted to try it). So off we go with our funky little cups to drink the thermal water along the way. Before I go much further, I should say that this place was a big hit with the Soviets when they held Czech Republic. All the hot shots came here for R&R. You hear as much Russian as Czech, and not much English. And the bulk of the tourists are Russian. My dad was trying to get my mom to color her hair red before, and I told her if she had have done so, some Russian ... read more

The weather continued to be ugly Monday in Prague. We went to the Charles Bridge, which is pedestrian only and lined with statues. Some have been replaced with copies, I mean 3-400 years of the elements can wear them down! After that we went back to Old Town, saw the town astronomical clock do it's thing and roamed around some more. It was just too chilly and rainy to enjoy much of anything, so we did a little shopping and went back to the hotel, to pack up for tomorrow's trip to Karlovy Vary, originally Carlsbad, the biggest spa resort in Czech Republic. Tuesday, time to leave Prague. The rain has finally quit. We took a taxi to the bus station, for the 2 hr drive to Karlovy Vary. If you take the train it is ... read more

Mom had a pretty good limp going by now. She was handing her own bag, which was good, because I had my hands full. We walked a couple of blocks, then I had her sit with the luggage whIle I walked around and found the hotel? Did I mention most of this was uphill? Also, it was 80+ and I was wearing long pants and socks! After getting Mom and luggage, walked up to Hotel Inos. Mom was of the opinion we should have got a cab. I think if we had done so, it probably would have been equivalent to buying a new Skoda! Couldn't get our room yet, it was only 12:30. Went down the hill to a nice outdoor cafe with a coupleof good-looking guys who were very nice to us. God knows ... read more

We are in Prague. Had uneventful flight to NYC, and was happy to have a couple of free passes to Delta Sky Club since we had a 6-hour layover. I drank a lot of free wine, and they had a bunch of good for you snacky stuff. I loved being able to have a nice big smushy chair to sit in, with outlets hand to to recharge my computer, phone ....... oh crap! That was when I realized I left my IPhone charger in the wall at the Marriott in St. Louis! So that took me on (fortunately) a short journey in JFK to find an electronics store (thank you, ladies, at the Sky Club desk!). I was able to get a charger and be on my way. Disaster averted! The flight over was pretty good, ... read more

Friday I received an email from booking.com. Our hotel in Prague was "temporarily closed" and we would need to find other accommodations. A week out, and no room at the inn! booking.com offered some suggestions, but not suited me. Finally find a place that looked ok, had decent reviews and didn't cost a fortune. Had to buy it as a no cancellation reservation to get a decent rate. Saturday a rep from booking.com called to make sure I had received the email and offered to help me find someplace else. That was really nice - I appreciated it! Still don't know what is up with the hotel, although it was part of the NH chain, and it was not listed on their website Friday night. So let's hope it isn't unseasonably hot when we are in ... read more
