After a few hours of must needed sleep we were ready to tackle the rest of the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Circo Massimo…oh and not to mention those dreaded escalators in the Metro! We headed out via our new quick mode of transport and walked down to the Colosseum, past the Arc of Constantine towards Palatine Hill. Now there are a few things I feel I should mention here. 1. It was sunny, in fact one of the most beautiful days we have had. 2. The line into the Colosseum was crazy long BUT free entry due to the mentioned [View Full Entry]

Rain, rain and more rain that about sums up the weather today. We headed out to explore the Colosseum and trace the steps of the brave Gladiator. It took us a while to get to the Colosseum as it was wet, cold and miserable and it seemed that every type of transport vehicle chose the same time to be on Rome’s hectic roads and traffic was at a standstill. Like anywhere just add water and instant idiot…but remember this was Rome so the effects were tenfold! More stairs…didn’t think it could suck anymore but with the element of water it is [View Full Entry]

Today was a colossal day and by the time we got back to our hotel (11.30 pm) I thought my legs were going to fall off! I have decided to rename Rome to Stair City and I am the stair master. What is it with Romans and stairs? We started out walking around St Peter’s Square, Vatican City. Tom and I must have looked like trustworthy folk as a Dutch couple asked us to take their photo, in return as per photo taking etiquette, if you take someone’s photos they will then take one for you. We went and lined up [View Full Entry]

The first introduction of Rome was of the million and one hawkers that lay in wait at every corner, transport hub and of course the tourist hot spots. You could not walk 20 steps without at least 10 people trying to shove flyers in your face, trying to get you to buy whatever they were selling. Eventually you have to ignore them or be very rude or both as they are VERY pushy and persistent. We set off exploring and found that at the end of our street was a beautiful fountain in the middle of the road. The fountain of [View Full Entry]

Day 1 - We’re on our way….ahaa ahaa ahaa ahaa!! Well the day had finally arrived…we were flying out at 3.25pm and it was a rush from the get go. Despite months of planning the final few days of packing (a dilemma I was having - all seasons and 7 weeks) to sorting out all the little things around home was very time consuming. When Pete turned up to take us to the airport we were still in our PJ’s! From one rush to another we were finally out the door and heading south to Sydney until all the traffic on [View Full Entry]

Everyone who knows me, and some who don't, can tell you exactly how many sleeps we have to go before we fly out on our big adventure...5 sleeps by the way. However, I am quick to argue the point that there is really only 4 sleeps to go...like I am going to be able to sleep on Wednesday night!! This dream of travelling the world and creating experiences that will last a lifetime has been simmering for many years, all the while focusing on the everyday and telling ourselves that we will do it next year as we absentmindedly scratch our [View Full Entry]
