Best place I have stayed so far with the staff being very helpful and always up for a drink at the onsite bar called The Zanzibar. Nat + LJ - Calypso Cairns Nat and LJ enjoying the time at Calypso. Well I have now arranged to head away from Cairns down the cost on an overnight Greyhound for the gateway to the Whitsundays. So tomorrow I leave Cairns at 12 midnight and make the long non-stop journey down to Airlie beach where I should arrive around 11am on Friday... will be on my own for this one as Nat and LJ have decided to stop off at Mission beach where they should be now as I type this... So will be about a week before I see them in Airlie (Thats if I dont move on myself). Sunday I will be heading out on a boat called Anaconda II... see pic below. Well another great day in Cairns... Got a bit of sun burn on my back but still a wonderful and colourful day out on the reef. We were up at 6am and had to be down to the harbour for 7.30am, not a problem for me as the night before I stayed in did some washing and had only 1 schooner of beer (Less than a pint... Damn these Oz measures), well the day kicked off with a good intro talk on the boat we were going out on called the Osprey. A nice cup of tea and we set off toward our first reef, where I would be getting wet doing some snorkling and having my first ever session with some scuba gear. Well I arrived in Cairns yesterday at 8:30am... Worst flight ever. Plane so small my legs got cramp from being crushed. When we landed we got straight through customs and hopped into a Black and White cab which seems to be the main taxi service here in Cairns. The hostel... well when we pulled up I was like jesus we in the middle of nowhere but once we had got sorted and hopped on the free hostel mini bus and gone into town we realised it was not but the city was just very low and quite small. Anyways the hostel is great such a nice setting very bright and a great atmosphere met a lot of people who were planning to go on som trips with... this has been the hardest part deciding what to ... read more
