After a night of little sleep, I stood on the side of the road (with 3 horses, 2 cows, a pig and a dog for company) waiting for a bus to take me to Suva. What amazed me was that whenever a car would drive past, the animals would all move away from the road, some even looked for cars before crossing! During my time in Lautoka I met a 19y.o. Ausy guy from Canberra called Kieran who was in Fiji trying to convince the family of his Indian girlfriend not to give her away to another man as part of an arranged wedding. Arriving in Fiji after a 10 year absence, I was keen to both relive my childhood memories and discover new areas that I had not been to. Not wanting to stand out like every other tourist I immediately caught the bus that would take me away from Nadi to Lautoka and checked in to a cheap hotel on the outskirts of town.
