Darnt - David Arntzenius

David Arntzenius Hi, I'm David I love to travel independent all over the world. I'm not the kind of person that likes a two week beach holiday in some warm country where you can speak your native language (dutch) to the hotel clerks. My vacations contain a lot of travel and see as much as possible in the time I have.

I've almost finished my education and before I start working I make my bigest journey yet. 6 weeks to Australia and New Zealand. Previous memorable journeys consist of Train travel through Scandinavia and to Italy Greece and Turkey.

My main hobby is photography. This is a hobby I can easily combine with my travels. It is only hard to travel light with all my photo gear.

For now I live in The Netherlands, Eindhoven but I'm not planning to stay there the rest of my life. My travels are also inspired by the search for a location where I would like to life.

temp update

 Oceania
I wrote a long story but it doesn't appear online (anymore) ? So now in short again. I'm in New Zealand. I'm almost finished travelling around the north island and tomorrow I fly to the south island. I use a "tour" operator, Stray and follow the short moe (kev) track. So it is possible to follow my general direction. My Australian phone number doesn't work here so I'm back to my (old) dutch phone number (+31648797045) but it is mostly turned off or doesn't has coverage. In Australia I stayed a week or so in Cairns and learned to dive. I'm [View Full Entry]

Today we would visit Uluru. It was first of to the sunrise viewing area. Offious that we were not alone. The sunrise viewing area is not that good. The road is on an angle to Uluru, this results in pictures with people into view the hole time. Specially for tourist they placed a kangaroo warning sign at a good photographic position. This was ofcourse crowed with tourist. We probably departed as one of the last tours. Mainly because I was still trying to get the perfect picture. But because of our late departed we were almost alone on the base walk [View Full Entry]

At 04:30 we had breakfast and at 05:30 everyone was in the bus to head to the base of the Kings Canyon. Our group is relativly small. An english couple, a korean guy, a french girl and 8 germans who all knew each other. The walk around the Kings Canyon started with rain. Something that does not happen to often here in the northen terriory. The walk was easy but nice and resulted in some very great views. During mid day we traveled to Uluru, an 3 hour drive or something. we went with the bus to the sunset viewing area [View Full Entry]

Arrived at 11:55, exactly as scheduled for the arival of the Ghan train from Aidelade to Alice springs. I had booked a 3,5 tour for the red center. The tour would consist of hikes to and around, Uluru, Kings Canyon and Katja Tuta. The tour organisaion would pick me up at 11:50. I had told them I was planned for arrival 5 minutes later but this was not a problem. After 10 minutes in Alice Springs no bus had shown up so I became a bit worried. But soon the bus appeared and I was almost ready to start my adventure [View Full Entry]

Rain on Kings Canyon

As expected I arrived in Aidelade at around 05:30. The bus terminal was still closed and was in the middle of nowhere. It also had started to rain. I'm only in Aidelade for today. At 17:15 I set off for Alice Springs with the legendary Ghan train. Because the bus terminal was still closed I decided to walk to the train station, only a short half hour. At the train station it would probably be at bit busier and I could store my luggage in a locker. After arriving at the train station the bus terminal seemed to lay in the [View Full Entry]

Secod and last day in Melbourne. Tonight at 20:30 I would discover the pleasures of an 11 hour night coach service to Aidelade. Today it was cloudy almost the whole time. Not very good weather to take photographs. I think I prefer Sydney above Melbourne. Melbourne is a nice city but doesn't feel like I want to live here. The flies make walking a bit unpleasant. They sit and crawl all over you like you see in Africa on TV. Yesterday by bike I was fast enough and they couldn't keep up. Arrived at the bus terminal on time. Several busses [View Full Entry]

Melbourne

 Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne
Arrived this morning in Melbourne with the ferry from Tasmania. While discovering the tram ticket machine I met another dutch student, from Eindhoven, my home town! We live on a small planet. This tram would stop almost next to the door of my hostel at King street. Took a shower and helped myself to some free breakfast. The rest of the day I wanted to use to explore the city. Melbourne should be a cycling friendly city so I rented a bike for today. My travel guide seems a bit out of date here in Melbourne. The hostel had now a [View Full Entry]

Cold, raining and clouds
Today only one hike was on the program, but what an hike. We would go by bus to the Cradle Mountain were several (unguided) hikes were possible. From a simple 2 hour stroll around the Dove Lake to a full 6-8 hour hike to the top of Cradle Mountain. There are several ways to get to the top. Most, if not all, of our group decided to start with a relative easy start around a beautiful landscape with several lakes. A steep and rough shortcut was considered with a very limited selection, including me. My main reason for the other track [View Full Entry]

Walking to the ocean
Today it was of to the beach of the west coast of Tasmania. The famous hinty sand dunes are here and that would make a nice morning hike to the ocean. the weather was very nice what is not that usually for west tasmania. And after an hour strugling through the sand we reached the ocean. We went in for a very short period. It was very cold. But luckily no dangerous animals. on this beach several years ago 20 wales stranded and today there enormeus skeletons still lay spreaded around the beach. An impressive sight. Walked back over the dunes [View Full Entry]

Another early day today. Pick-up for the 3 days west coast tour of Tasmania was scheduled for 06:25 but arrived a half hour late. Meanwhile a total of 6 people had shown up for the same tour at this particular pick-up point. The total group size is around 20. After evyerone was collected we were off to the office of Adventure Tours to sign the neccessary paperwork. After that it was off to ... Waterfalls. This first day would be an easy start without to much hiking and a far bit of driving because we had to get to Tullah were [View Full Entry]
