After eleven days in Sabah, Borneo, I/we were ready to leave and start the second part of the vacation in Indonesia. Still, getting out of Sabah meant sitting and waiting whilst our Air Asia flight was delayed to Jakarta. There was quite a large storm taking place outside so we just had to wait for it to clear. Kota Kinabalu airport was so small, with hardly enough seating to hold the passengers on all the delayed flights. Tara and I had to pass the time by playing 'What would you rather?', a game which became a daily ritual in the end. The storm passed soon enough and we were allowed to board. Tara and I had once again with Air Asia been seated apart. I think the check in woman had it in for me, and ... read more
August 1st 2009 - Finally, it's summer vacation time for me. I had been working very hard in my job, teaching 600 Korean children ESL Maths. I was very ready for this trip. I had a Korean Air flight from Seoul to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. The flight was only 5 hours from Incheon, but it was so expensive. I guess not many Korean's travel there, and with the fear of Swine flu, even less Koreans are traveling at the moment. I landed in KK and I took a pre pay taxi to the Borneo1 Hypermall to meet Tara, who had landed earlier that day after already spending two weeks on peninsula Malaysia. Here we had pre booked a room at the Tune motel, a spin off from the Air Asia chain. Air Asia is ... read more
So, March 3rd 2009. I have told my new school that I am not able to start until March 9th, so I have 6 days to play with, and I decide to take another trip to Thailand. I would have loved longer, but the Korean school term had already started, so I flew out for 6 days, for £200 return. Waking up to pouring rain in Seoul was not great, but I knew that I would be getting out of it soon. I had to get myself to the airport bus stop, but the rain was really really bad (it hasn't really rained at all this winter in Seoul .... they save all the rain for the summer monsoon season I think!!!!). So I charged down to the stop clad in a poncho!! It felt really ... read more
Another flight, another early departure from Incheon airport, Seoul. I think every single flight that I have taken out of there (and I have taken enough!!) has meant getting up at the butt crack of dawn!! Stef and I met for our cheep shuttle ride to the airport, 9000 Won (about £4:20 for a 50 minute journey) and away we went .... but .... without Luke, our co worker that was supposed to be joining us. It wasn't until we got to the check in zone that we found out that Luke would not be joining us due to illness. The flight with Cathay Pacific was once again very good. By 10:30am I had been fed 3 times - this set a trend for the next 5 days .... to see how much it was humanly ... read more
Day 3 of the trip. Stef and I went to collect another stamp in our passports, we headed off to Macao for the day. With it being the Christmas vacation, HK was very very busy. I had been advised to book the return ferry to Macao in advance, good job too as the boat was full and the lines were long!! So, we booked our tickets on our first day, HK$300 return for the day trip. We had an 11am ferry. We got to the terminal for 10:40 and the queues were large. Even tho we had tickets I was positive that we had dudd ones off a douche bag seller that'd run off with our money and we would never see it again. I was wrong. The line was long, but I do not think ... read more
Annyong haseyo from South Korea! I have only been here for 10 months, visited 5 countries since living here (Japan, Philippines, North Korea, China and Taiwan) and now I decide to start my own travel blog. Since I am on my last leg of my journey in Korea, I thought I could share some of my experiences with you all. However, I am actually in the process of looking for another job out here - so I may just be out here for a little longer yet ?? Arriving here in March 2008 was strange. I remember coming in to Seocho and seeing lights everywhere, reminding me of what I thought Japan would be like (and indeed was). I was taken straight to my school, and then told that my (free) apartment would not be ready ... read more
