Danni Evans - Danielle Evans

Danielle Evans I am at the end of a 6 month stint in the Netherlands where i have been studying part of my Architecture degree. I have three weeks to kill before heading to Malaysia for a week and then home to Oz. I plan to go to Paris, then Barcelona, then on to Rome and make my way up North to Milan. In Malaysia i will be spending a couple of days in K.L. then 5 days in Langkawi to hopefully do nothing but make the most of the sun and the beach.

The day started early with small hike to the old Genoa wall where youcan get a good Panoramic of the city. For the life of me i couldn't find my way to the old wall but i did get some good panoramic views! After that i took the Furniculare down to the town. Now when i was told that i could catch this contraptio down to the centre i had imagined that it would be like a ski lift affording beautiful views over Genova. But to my shock it was like a vertical tram.... unusual and an experience. After getting to [View Full Entry]

A day of travel

 Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence
I spent a day in transit goin from Florence to Genova/Genoa. It was four hours to Monteresso one of the five towns in the Cinque Terre area, then another two hours from there to Genoa Brignole. After that it was another 30minutes by bus to the hostel. All in all I was worn out by the time i got to the hostel. Monteresso was beautiful. Unfortunately, I had been given the wrong information and so when i turned up there was nowhere to store my heavy pack and all the shops were closed! But all that ended up not being a [View Full Entry]

Sunset over Genoa

Today I saw sunshine for the first time in almost a week. It was a welcome change in weather seeing as I have managed to get rained on almost every single day that I have been in Florence. Today I took a bus ride to San Gimignano. Unfortunately I had a slow start so I didn't get to San Gimignano until the afternoon, which worked out ok as San Gimignano is quite small. I got of the bus and walked towards a set of signs, missing the entrance to the walled town completely. After trekking around the outskirts looking for a [View Full Entry]

A lazy day again...

 Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence
Tuesday was a very lazy day, battling a bit of a fever I decided not to go to Siena or San Gimignano. Instead I wandered around the shopping district for the day. Dangerous I know but how could I resist. I honestly did not buy much, but I did see some things that I really liked. In one store which looked pretty swish i fell in love with a suit jacket and a a really soft stylish shirt. However I was crushed when I looked at the prices and the jacket alone was EUR847.00! The price of beauty? I don't think [View Full Entry]

An afternoon in Pisa

 Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Pisa
After writing my blog i went for a bit of a walk and found a bookshop. I bought another Ken Follet book after reading Pillars of the Earth i think it was called. Apparently he is in the same class as Matthew Riley as all his books are full of action and suspense. The train trip to Pisa cost EUR5.40 and was just over an hour. I got worried for a while when i had got lost in my book and realised that it was highly possible that i had missed the station. But the worry was unnecessary and I ended [View Full Entry]

Palazzo Vecchio
Palazzo Vecchio
I accidently waited in line for this place before going to the Ufizzi gallery around the corner. it had a beautiful entrance plaza.
I have been a bit slack the last couple of days and also have not found a computer to upload photos. I caught an express train to Florence which cost 38 euros and took one and a half hours. I thought that this was a bargain as the normal trains were only a little cheaper and would have taken 4hours! When i arrived in Florence it was pouring rain and unfortunately it hasnt stopped yet. it does tend to put a bit of a dampener on things....pardon the pun. I had tried to book three nights at a hostel before leaving [View Full Entry]

Right next tothe colosseum is a collection of Ruins, the place where the roman forum is located.
I am heading to Florence today after three nights in Rome. The hostel was good although a little cramped. i went to the Vatican city on the first day and it really is an awesome place. The second day i went to the colloseum, the pantheon and the trevi fountain and i spent the rest of the day walking down one of the main shopping streets doing a bit of window shopping. There have been a few bad stories over the last few days. Someone got robbed at knife point near the colloseum and another person got a shake down by [View Full Entry]

This picture is taken from the roof of the church, about 400 steps from ground floor. the top of the dome was another 200 steps roughly.
i have arrived in rome and have settled into the hostel here. it has a similar sort of vibe as the one in Barcelona, but it is a lot smaller. i met some really nice people on the train on the way over here and have arranged to meet up with them for dinner over the next couple of days that i am here. i am afraid i dont have much to say other than it was said to leave barcelona and i look forward to going back there again. i have heard that Rome has a great vibe so i [View Full Entry]

The Vatican City
The Ceilingo of the Sistine Chapel

Today was a very slow day. i didnīt get out of the hostel until about midday. donīt get me wrong, i was up early but i spent the morning chatting with everyone over breakfast. The afternoon started off with a wander down Les Ramblas, which is the main shopping street in Barcelona. the centre of the street contains flower stalls and pet shops. i saw turtles, ferrets, hamsters, roosters, ducks, lizards and a whole heap of other types of birds. There was also a massive food market leading off Les Ramblas which had every type of fruit imaginable and every type [View Full Entry]
