Danielssan - Dan Hogg

Dan Hogg I am a lonely traveller living in the suburb, Kingston-Upon-Thames. I am planning to set out on a worldwide adventure on April 23rd. First stop, is Delhi, then a train to the beautiful Goa. Second stop is Kuala Lumpur, where a jungle train may be in use. The third stop will be Australia, along the famour East Coast from Cairns to Sydney. Onwards and upwards to New Zealand to chill with Maoris and get tattoos. The final destination will be South America, beginning in Buenos Aires, and finishing in Rio.

Singapore is a very, very uninteresting place. All it is good for is shopping for electrical equipment. The first hostel that we stayed at, was in fact a university campus, and we were presented with a room that looked like it should accommodate Dr Harold Shipman. We watched England get embarrassed by the Brazilians at five o'clock in the morning, having managed to meet up with Cumaren. Legend. The hostel that we were actually reccommended by everyone who had ever been to Singapore was the Inn Crowd. To be honest, that wasn't very interesting to be honest, as the people who [View Full Entry]

I very much regret not travelling more around Malaysia. I have heard from several others that it is a beautiful country, and there is a lot to do around the rural areas. We, unfortunately, stayed in Kuala Lumpur the entire time that we stayed there. We did, however, have a good time. On our first night, we met a few people who were from Milton Keynes, which was cool as we were able to speak English English to them, and not have to articulate every single word we said nice and slowly. On our second evening, we had found out that [View Full Entry]

We arrived at around 8AM. Because we had been on a non-stop train for 38 hours, we hadn't been able to brush our teeth or use decent toilet facilities. We were therefore feeling pretty rough. We decided to save money on a taxi, so we got a bus to Panaji, which is trhe capital of Goa. We had to get one more bus to Calangute, which is where we had planned to stay. We got off our hassle free bus journey and tried to find the YHA hostel recommended to us. We had all of our bags and it was very [View Full Entry]

When we woke up, it was around 06.00. Almost everyone on the train was up. I had horrible aches all over my body from sleeping in the same position on top of my bags. Our train wasn't due for another six hours or so. There was literally nothing to do apart from sit around and read. In the end, our train was delayed for another hour. When we arrived in Delhi, it was a nightmare again. We walked out of the station to find that our driver we were promised wasn't waiting for us there. We had to call "The Doctor" [View Full Entry]

We arrived at Srinigar airport fairly early in the morning. As soon as we had stepped off of the plane, we felt a very strong police presence in and around Srinagar. We were totally ignorant of the political situation in Kashmir, and remained unaware until we read up in the Lonely Planet. Bill Clinton had said a few years ago that "Kashmir is the most dangerous place in the world." We were beginning to get pretty worried about the whole thing. Our airport pick-up was very tedious. This guy made no attempt to make any conversation with us. The surroundings we [View Full Entry]

In the end we had to get a flight from Srinagar to Jammu and then drive to Dharamsala to avoid a road block. At Srinagar airport we were security checked and frisked at least seven times, which made us almost miss our flight. Once we got in the car at Jammu, it was very boring. We travelled through the rural parts of India and saw thre real poverty of this country. We stopped off at a restaurant for an average lunch and had our first beer for 5 days. It went down well. Whilst going up this particularly hilly part of [View Full Entry]

We arrived at Six in the morning in a ridiculous heat of 27 degrees. Me and Rob's first purchase of the trip was at Delhi airport, where we each bought 200 cigarettes each for only $13. A wise investment. Our airport pick-up was a cool little Nepalise man, although I can't remember his name. I felt very special at the airport when I saw a sign saying "Mr Daniel Hogg, Welcome to India." As we approached the car. A group of around 6 men came up to our trollies, and began picking our bags off and putting them in the car. [View Full Entry]

Having said goodbye to our other travelling chums at Waterloo station, I felt it necessary to update this so I can see what's going on with them, and also to give me something to do during the day. We have precisely two months from today left, until we leave to go travelling from Heathrow Airport. Our first destination...Delhi, India. I am counting down...59 days to go. [View Full Entry]
