(Florida Bible Christian School) For tour on Friday we decided to go back to the everglades and take the airboat ride as a group. The church has a van for us to use, and as it only holds ten people, and it was a sunny day, Dave and Wanda were riding their motorcycle. Bob was driving the van. Dave and Wanda were ahead of us, when we approached a dump truck. Bob pulled out to pass him (we were on a two lane road) and the semi that seemed to be stuck to our bumper pulled out with us. Bob said [View Full Entry]

(Florida Bible Christian School) Our project officially ended January 27th, but with this being back-to-back projects (yay!) we had the days off and no move to make. We decided to go to Leesburg (in the Orlando area) for the Florida RVICS reunion. We went expecting to see old friends, but were blessed to see new friends that we hadn’t yet met! What an uplifting, wonderful time it was. Leesburg is where RVICS began, and was their official headquarters until they moved to Smithville, Texas, in 1989. (Here’s something worth noting~~in October RVICS completed their 2000th projec [View Full Entry]

In case you're on South Beach and suddenly
But the water is beautiful there.
Back in our world,

(Florida Bible Christian School) Wednesday night the temperature “plunged” to 41 degrees. It hasn’t been that low this day since 2003. Yesterday it didn’t make it out of the 50s, and that hasn’t happened since January 18, 2006. You have to know we’re thrilled to be here while they break these records!! Usually when it starts getting colder, it’s time to move south to the next project, but we’re in Miami~~we’ve pretty much exhausted our possiblities! I’m not expecting you all to send your condolences, but we haven&rs [View Full Entry]

This is to let you know that we
Dave & Earl are working on the wiring.

(Florida Bible Christian School) Our tour worked out better this week~~I can’t say it was more fun, but it worked according to plan! We went to Billie Swamp Safari~~a 2200 acre natural wildlife preserve. We took a swamp buggy ride through it, and we were able to view many different kinds of animals, many of which I didn’t get the name of, because our driver had a very enthusiastic southern accent. With this being the dry season, we didn’t see as much as we would have if it was June through November (also called hurricane season.) It was interesting, though, and [View Full Entry]

See how high we're sitting?

(Florida Bible Christian School) Bob and I drove to Key West Saturday, to sights that were spectacular. It’s only 175 miles from here, but it’s a long, breathtakingly beautiful drive. The islands are connected by bridges, of course, but some of them are only wide enough for the bridge itself, and a strip of land on either side. Everywhere you look are these tiny islands…I’m looking out into the ocean, and there are islands! I can’t explain how strange it looked! It was like someone had drawn them in the ocean where they didn’t belong! (The Florid [View Full Entry]

(Florida Bible Christian School) Wow it’s been a long time since I’ve posted…but I have good reasons. We’re in Miami, and it’s been in the high 70’s or low 80’s every day. And we’re only ten miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Are those good reasons, or not?! But let me back up a bit. Last time I wrote we were still outside of Fort Meyers; a couple days before we were to leave, we got a call from Wanda, (Dave and Wanda, leaders from last winter) just calling to see when we planned to arrive at the new project. I [View Full Entry]

Merry Christmas to all our friends! What an odd Christmas this has been~~not bad at all, just odd. Our original decision to stay down here was based on the distance we needed to travel from the end of our November project to our January project. We hadn’t intended to fly home at all, but plane tickets came up that made it possible, and we were able to leave our bus at Shocco Springs for a while, so off we went! I can’t imagine how hard it would have been to get through December if we hadn’t seen the kids. Wow. We [View Full Entry]

(Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center) Bob and I have so much to be thankful for, and this lifestyle right up there on our list. We are so privileged to be able to travel and meet people and be serving the Lord at the same time, and we’re always aware of that privilege. I think I mentioned that we’re meeting with the MMAPpers (Mobile Mission Assistance Program). Two of the couples got here in early November because of some special circumstances, so they’ve been working on tasks separate from ours, but have been doing morning devotions and Bible study and our socia [View Full Entry]

(Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center) Happy Thanksgiving, tomorrow! The camp is closed Wednesday through Sunday, so we had a two day work week! When we first got to Talladega I said this is a surprisingly small town; I expected a city, because we’ve heard so much about Talladega Superspeedway~~a famous NASCAR track. The population is a little over 17,000 but the shopping area is small, with way too many empty store fronts, and the residential area is spread over a large area. Many of the residents work in Birmingham. Talladega doesn’t give the appearance of a thriving [View Full Entry]

(Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center) Last week the trees were glowing with color, but then over the weekend it got down to the mid 30s with wind, and the leaves lost their brilliance, and most of them lost their hold on the trees. Now the ground is covered with the red leaves. Another thing that's really funny, and has become a part of our lives it seems (except when we were in Dickinson!) is the acorns. In California I kept going on about how big they were, and here they're about the size of a piece of hominy, but there are [View Full Entry]
