19th-30th Well the illusive Irrawaddy dolphins remained pretty illusive, we managed to spot one after an hour of searching on a boat with a child at the helm. Still, ones better than none, so we cycled the 10k home happy bunnies! The next day it was travelling day, always a fav day of ours, this one though really took the biscuit!! Our destination was Siem Reap, border crossing was involved so we knew it was going to be a little arduous. Our day started at 8am and didn’t end until 12am. It was Bangkokbusgate all over again. As usual with going cheap, you really don’t have any argument, but after being loaded onto our 7th mini bus, filled with locals, a bike, sacks of potatoes and no-one English speaking (not even the driver) I got a ... read more

5th - 18th Betty here, Dan has abandoned his post as chief blogger (tis quite a laborious task!) so it now falls to me to fill you in on a good 2 week gap!!. I will do my best .. So, Luang Probang is when we last blogged, and what a place, its by far one of our top stops! We did as much we could in the little time we had there. By now we had created our own little traveller family and did pretty much everything as one! Our first family outing was in the evening of the first day, we rented bikes and headed for the temple of Phu Si (pronounced pussy to Dan and Matt’s great amusement) to watch the sunset. We got a little lost on the way and ended up ... read more

Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Chang Kong - Pak Beng - Luang Prabang 23rd - 5th I have left this far to long between blogs, and I don’t mind telling you. I cant be arsed to write this cos its gonna be a big one. But betty is forcing me to do it, so here we go…… We last left you hoping we would be able to just turn up at the northern bus terminal in Bangkok and get a vip bus to Chiang Mai the same day, however because of the floods that were due to hit Bangkok any day we weren’t able to do so. And we ended up on a 2nd class bus with no air-con. It cost us 380BHT and we were the only “farang” on there. It can only be described ... read more

15th - 22nd Koh tao to Koh Pha-Ngan to Bangkok We have been quite busy since my last update, we spent another day in koh tao after finishing our course. Just a lazy day on the beach deciding what to do next. We decided on a few days in pha-ngan as you had probably guessed from the title. We got the ferry mid day on the 16th took 3hrs and only cost 200BHT! We headed straight for hat rin beach and with the lonely planets guidance we decided to stay in coral bungalows, only 500BHT a night with aircon and perfect distance from the beach and night life. Nice pool as well. Day at the pool and night on the beach for seafood (which was overpriced and bang average!) had a look about and went home ... read more

11th - 14th Padi open water diver course on Koh Tao I last left you just as we were about to start our course, we were doing our course with scuba junction, who are situated right in the middle of sairee beach, I chose them because of there small groups and glowing reviews on trip advisor. (we ended up having 1 instructor and 1 assistant between just me and Betty!! 1 on1 so it couldn’t have been any better really!!) Are instuctor was Kerry from South Africa and are assistant was Mark from America (he came here 2 months ago to do his open water course like us, and hasn’t left since. And was training for his assistant instructor course, that’s how good this place is!) We had to meet at 4pm and the first day ... read more

Oct 5th - Oct 11th Phi Phi to Ko Tao Hello, been a week since my last update so plenty to tell you. Still raining hard all day on the 5th so we spent most of the day inside. Went out for tea and got quite drunk, and ended up in reggae bar. The one where they "pay" you a bucket of whatever booze you want in exchange for having a muay thai fight in front of the crowd…….you know where this is heading don’t you?!?! I didn’t take much persuading, I was steaming by this point. So got helmet and gloved up and paired with a 6.3” 18yr old German lad, I wont go in to details but my fight record now reads 0-0-1 I was DQ’d in the first round. Not good!! And betty ... read more

27th Sept - 4th Oct Brid to Phi Phi So, we have been “travelling” for a week now. We set off from Bridlington train station at 11am on the 27th of sept. betty and her mum and sister were very teary, and I think even Jane had a little weep. I held it together because I am a MAN!!! The trip encountered its first blip when the train between Peterborough and stansted airport was cancelled. I flapped a bit, I sense there will be a lot more of this to come over the next 6 months and 3 days! But we got on the next train to the airport, no charge. We arrived at Stansted at 5pm and the flight didn’t leave till 11:15pm so had plenty of time to kill, went and had a few ... read more
