Our return to Lima was kept brief, as we spent just the one night there before catching a bus early the following morning for Nazca. The 9 hour journey down to Nazca didn´t run too smoothly. After 6 hours of seriously erratic driving through a largely barren landscape, the bus pulled over, the driver jumped out along with a couple of ransoms and started fiddling with the rear back wheel. Not exactly being mechanically minded, I couldn’t make out what the were trying to do, but after a few frustrating hours of guessing what the problem was and whether we’d [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Lima, Peru at about 7.30pm on the night of the 25th May. Peru reminded us both of India, especially the crazy driving that we experienced on the way to our hotel! We stayed at the Hostal International which was really nice with a swimming pool (although it was a bit cold!), kitchen, communal lounge and the bedroom had a bathroom with hot water, though Dan couldn´t get it to work for him!. We spent the next couple of days we had there before meeting with our next Gecko´s tour relaxing and psyching ourselves up for the trek [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Quito on the evening of the 14th and checked into the Amazonas Inn which was a little different to what we´d been staying in for the previous two weeks but had everything we needed, even hot water and cable tv. That evening we walked up and down a few of the nearby streets but didn´t find any restaurants open and so opted for a take away pizza. Fortunately the lady who owned the hotel was very helpful and ordered the pizza for us, as our Spanish still doesn´t stretch that far! The following day, after catching up [View Full Entry]

We arrived at our hotel, Disney’s Yacht Club, which was brilliant! We got ourselves checked in and into our rooms pretty quickly: they must have thought we were staying for at least a month with all the bags we had! (15 of them!). Our room was awesome, good AC, t.v. (with a cartoon only channel!), bathroom, hot water and a patio. Mum and dad’s room had a small glitch in that it was right opposite the laundry room and thus had a very noisy fan blowing cold air at there door constantly but they did receive visits from both wild [View Full Entry]

It's been a pretty long time since we last added an entry, but we haven't forgotten you! (and hopefully you haven't forgotten us either!) We've got a lot to catch up on so I'll skip the formalities and get straight into it. We left you in San Jose so this is where we'll pick up.... For our final day in San Jose we thought that we'd better do some sightseeing, so headed into town with our trusty LP in search of the Museum of Criminology. The LP gave it a good write up and we were both looking forward to it. [View Full Entry]

We left San Jose on the 8.30am bus for Palmer Norte, about 5 1/2 hours journey away. We stopped for breaky at a wicked roadside restaurant that sold some very tasty food and (more importantly) had hummingbird feeders outside it’s windows which were attracting the little beauties by the dozens. We arrived early afternoon in Palmer Norte after a rather uneventful but pleasant ride and got a taxi to the nearby town of Sierpe which is where we’d get our boat to Bahia Drake the following day. Sierpe is pretty small with only a few hotels, a couple of restaurants, [View Full Entry]

We had a very relaxing and chilled out Easter weekend in Cancún. Unfortunately we missed out on the Easter eggs but we didn’t mind too much as thanks to mama and papa Sweet we stayed in a very swish hotel instead. We stayed at the InterContinental in the hotel zone and had a very fancy room with an awesome seaview, bathroom, hot water, cable t.v., a well stocked mini-bar (not so well stocked when we left!) and A/C. The hotel also had a couple of pools, a gorgeous beach, a few restaurants and a gym. What more could you ask [View Full Entry]

The flight from Cancun to Panama City and then on to San Jose wasn’t too bad at all. The plane was pretty small and on both occasions we encountered a fair bit of turbulence but this just made things more interesting. We left Cancun at 1510, an hour later then we’d expected (not sure why) and arrived in San Jose at 7.30pm (8.30 pm Mexico time). After thinking that we’d lost our luggage, only to find it had been put to one side as it had ´priority´ over the other bags, we caught a taxi to Hostal Pangea which had [View Full Entry]

After arriving in Tulum at 11am, we checked in at the Hotel El Crucero, grabbed a bite to eat before taking a stroll down the road to the Tulum Ruins, which, though lacking the grandeur of Teotihuacan, Mont Alban and Palenque, still made for an awesome sight. The ruins are set on cliff tops overlooking vast stretches of palm fringed beaches and a bright turquoise Caribbean Sea. Their simple and small scale design is a reflection of the fact that they were built by a Mayan civilization in decline, around A.D. 1200 -1500 and it is thought to be one [View Full Entry]

Our bus left Puerto Escondido at about 2.30pm and from there it was a 5 hour ride to Salina Cruz where we then had a two hour wait before catching another bus to Villahamosa, which took a further 8 hours, and then finally a 2 hour trip to Palenque town, arriving about 8am the following morning. Palenque Town isn´t too amazing so we stayed about 5km down the road towards the ruins in a place called Margarita and Ed´s, which is set in the jungle. Margarita and Ed´s was pretty alright. We had a little cabana with bathroom, hot water, [View Full Entry]
