Jaipur Day 2 Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jaipur
Day 2 in Jaipur has been a success. We had a very lazy but well deserved lay in this morning. Can't get over how nice our room and this hostel is. We had a breakfast/lunch of Crepes with bananas and chocolate mmmm on the roof terrace and fresh fruit (first time we have had fruit since in India - all the other places wash their fruit in the water which contaminates them)> Took a walk to the walled city of Jaipur - this is the oldest part and the buildings are all pink. The walk took about 40 minutes and I [View Full Entry]

We travelled by Shatabdi Express this morning to Jaipur. I must say - the train was excellent - on time, no delays, serving complimentary tea, water, breakfast and newspapers on board and all for a fraction of the cost of trains in England! Anyway we arrived in Jaipur at 11.00am to be hassled at the train station by very persistant touts who pretended to be there to take us back to our hotel. The overheard my name and kept saying that the hotel had sent them to collect us - luckily we had the hotel number and when we called them [View Full Entry]

Day 2 in Delhi has been much more relaxed. We are feeling so much more confident now. Nearly got ripped off with the same scam as yesterday when we asked a tuk tuk driver to take us to the Red Fort - an english speaking guy took over the driving and tried to take us to the 'Government building' instead because he 'thought' the Red Fort was closed today. From yesterdays experiences we knew that a 'government building' was actually a tour company and once they get you in there they try to sell you an expensive tour package for the [View Full Entry]

What a start to our travels! Delhi has been a mixture of good and bad from the moment we arrived. The journey from the airport was an experience - cows in the middle of busy roads, children jumping out in front of cars trying to sell things, women wearing sahris riding side saddle on the backs of moterbikes - and the road system - !!!! - what road system !!! The 'main bazaar' where our little hostel was situated is full of little stalls and rickshaws/moterbikes whizzing up and down. Dogs everywhere and people begging. It is quite smelly but you [View Full Entry]
