What you have encountered in Guilin and Yangshuo made me feel a bit ashamed...I was assuming that these places have been well known as tour sites for a long time and so should be nice. Overall, Guangxi, the province Guilin and Yangshuo locate in, is a quite poor one-for reasons I don't know.
Guizhou should be a lovely place. I was there 5 years ago. But mind some of the local people who may ask you to pay them if you take pictures at some rope-circled and 'highlighted' sites-they can be quite nasty too, as I was cursed by one of them. Those 'little old lady support teams' selling minor-tribual lady's metal accessaries are fine, as the price for their interesting goods is really cheap and you can bargain on them. I was happy to buy some at that time.
Good luck and good mood!
hat action hi alasdair, alison,

Everything changes yet stays the same. Regards to the two temporary expats.
It is nice to know, despite the pace and scale of development in HK, that some things will always be so. Chungking Mansions being the case in point (legal speak Al), it was (in the 1970s) and always will be a dive.
Glad you are both enjoying the trip. A relatively small number of small scale disasters so far - are you saving up for a biggy Al?
'At 10am we boarded a minibus, We left at 11:30...'
You are incredibly patient! Sorry for the terrible service.
Mount Hua is so amazing, and you two are amazing as well, travelled to 3 peaks at least, and saw the sunrise, so energetic! Take some rest, maybe save some energy for the next month ^_^.
Where did my comment go? The previous one just disappeared.
I personally quite like the Heaven Temple, where the emperors worshipped the Heaven before.
Did you find any food you are interested in the night market? Don't get despair, I am sure the foods/fruits in GZ/HK will suit you. By the way, I think the pear and peach in Beijing are quite good.
Highlight places. I myself quite like the Heaven Temple, where Chinese worshipped the Heaven before; Summer Palace is very good as well, as you may know it was built to amuze the Royal family during hot summer days.
Chinese Carry In Great to know that you arrived safely (and almost complete). Clearly the adventure is now in full swing - delayed baggage, dodgy food, awkward taxi driver..... and lots of interesting things to see and do! Go with the flow and enjoyyyy!
Nice to see you there. Thanks for letting me know how you are getting on...Well, you 2 are brave people, I am happy you can manage that, though with a bit bitterness. Getting your bag back is a good sign.
Give me a shout if you will stay in Guangzhou for a couple of days, so that I can check with my girl friend (Anna, sure I remember her name!), or my parents-they don't speak much English though :) if we can arrange a time, they can introduce you better foods/fruits in my home town.
Bless you!
Myself and my girlfriend, bestfriend and travelling companion, Alison are both staring down the barrel of starting careers in the legal profession (yawn), and thus decided that the transition from liberal, care free students to boring, 9-5 droids could only be properly achieved by embarking on the "trip-of-a-lifetime"!
And so it is that we are off to China for the next two months on a gastronomical, cultural, spiritual (blah blah blah) extravaganza!!
Goodbye Aberdeen, friends, family and acquaintances...watch this space!... full info
