So angelyn and I survived the 12 hour bus ride from Munich to Brussels. We got in at 6 oclock in the morning and since we couldnt check into the hostel until 2pm we basically wandered around the city. This city, like frankfurt, is very DC-like. Lots of government and corporation buildings. Not much for the eye of the tourist. Except, of course, the symbol of the city which is a two foot tall statue of a little naked boy peeing... In fact we got bored by 4 pm and went to go see a movie. It is interesting to hear [View Full Entry]

So I am still kickin here in Germany. Angelyn and I took a 5 hour train from Frankfurt to Munich and arrived at our hostel.. appropriately named Jaeger Hostel. We are in a forty person room! It is more like a gym locker room. However we havent spent much time in the hostel. It has been spent eating more Bratwurst, prezels, Wiener Schnizel, some type of white sausage ( I dont ask... apparently it is made from veal) and my personal favorite Apfelstrudel! We arrived here on May 1 which luckily for us was a national holiday! May Day!!! I have [View Full Entry]

Hello from Frankfurt! I am only here for two nights before we move on but I really love this town. It is a true mix of old and new. IT has a Manhattan skyline but then it has the old town feel. There isnt alot of touristy things to do but Angelyn and I have definately taken this town by storm. We had our Rindwurst which are like Bratwurst. Then we had Döner Kababs and pretzels. Some äpfelwein for lunch and then we did some musuems (jewish and goethe). Next Stop Munich [View Full Entry]

HOLA from Barcelona! The first leg of my European Adventure. I left Rome about a week ago and came to visit my friend Irene who is studying Architecture here. Her and 6 other girls from the program share a great apartment on the Placa Universitat near the center of the city. Everything here is in walking distance. The first day of touring, Angelyn (my touring buddy) and I did a Gaudi adventure. We went to visit the appartments he built and the Park Guell, which is in the north of the city. His style is so intricate but also fairy-book style. [View Full Entry]

Siena, Arezzo, Assisi

 Europe » Italy » Tuscany
Sorry these updates are quite late... but better late than never. So my program took us on a weekend trip to tuscany at the begining of February. Our first stop was Siena in Tuscany. Siena is a town known for their patron saint St. Catherine of Siena. Is it also known for their horse race that happens twice a year, which occurs downtown in the middle of this medieval city. Pazzo! Siena is also broken down into different neighboorhoods that are named after different animals. These neighboorhoods compete against one another in this crazy horse race and apparently people get pretty [View Full Entry]

Us in our Carnivale Masks
So this past weekend, the students in my program all got together and planned a trip to Venice for Carnivale! We left Rome at midnight on Friday night and then returned at 7 am this morning after taking a 7 hour train ride. I can honestly say this was one of the best weekends of my life! Venice is one of my favorite cities thus far in Europe. WE arrived in Venice at 6 am in the morning. Just in time to watch the sun rise in Venice! There were four of us that booked a hotel for 48 dollars per [View Full Entry]

a week of awesomeness

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
So I survived my first week in Roma! I am starting to get used to life around here. I no longer have fear when I walk across the street and I know the bus system like the back of my hand. My stomach has finally expanded enough to eat as much as they eat during dinner! I love my espresso in the morning and I even have a regular place to get my coffee during the day. My italian is getting better. I definately understand when people are talking to me and my time responding is getting less and less. My [View Full Entry]

Finally Here

 Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
Ciao from Roma! Alot has happened in the first couple of days and this is the first time that I have been able to get onto a computer. I left on January 2nd and got into Rome on the third around 2ish after a layover in London. I actually ended up meeting 5 other people in my study abroad program during the layover so it was nice to have some people to talk to. Once in the Fiumincio airport I was supposed to meet up with Angelyn, however we could not find one another and we ended up wandering around the [View Full Entry]
